Amazing. We have nothing like that here in New Zealand, wish there was. As for the wool. I always wash mine in warm water and then, shock, horror, toss it in the dryer. Yes it shrinks a little but it will never shrink again and the finished garment can now be washed as often as you like. If there is a major matting there are numerous methods for unmatting knitted garments that work well on wool fabric too. Alternatively, wash again in hot water with a cold rinse to make a finish similar to boiled wool. This is wonderful for coats and jackets especially, but if the wool is light enough a skater type of dress works well too. Never be afraid to wash wool basically.

Ok, I loooove the purple wool. It's improved, not ruined. Also, I buy every fabric I see in that color. Cotton velvet, boucle silk, broadcloth, corduroy, linen? I have it in that exact shade.

Amazing haul! As you say, great to have yards of appealing but low stakes fabric. Just airing things in the sun has magical powers for unfortunate scent removal, so you could try that for the mystery scented wool.

I tried one round of airing but I'll try a second time soon!

Impressive haul! I think you should totally pre-wash every fabric (except silk maybe) especially wool! I rarely wash my wool clothes because it's mostly unnecessary, but if I have to I want to make sure it's pre-shrunk
@HaleyMarieVintage Жыл бұрын
I prewashed the silk too and nothing bad happened lol
@sewcute_sewvintage Жыл бұрын
I also always prewash my wool. Especially if it has the wet dog smell. Well I guess it's wet sheep smell. If I want it felted down I put it in the wash. If I don't I soak it in a tub. And I always iron it before cutting because I've had disasters happen. 😢

Nice haul and I'm a bit envious of it. Enjoy yourself. Thrifted fabrics are usually crap in whenever I get to the thrift store. I do tend to have some luck finding something on clearance now and then. Been a long time but I hope to make it to Portland next spring and go crazy at the mill end shops there.

Thank goodness! I'm from Northern California, and it see!s like every couple of years we spend several weeks in masks to keep our lungs clean of smoke, evacuating, or going through loss with family members; my aiater, while the only one in her. neighborhood to have her house survive, has spent the last 2 years making it livable again. Now she can finally sew for her mental health!
