How cool is that ? Love the harp guy. Another thumbs up :) I would almost think it might be a little too cold--It's nice to see grafts readily take quickly. It's one thing I haven't done a whole lot of and with limited space on less than a 1/2 acre here, I need to do more of. Every year, I trade out scions or budwood with great intentions & then get busy & never get to it. Pathetic, I know ;) Used to be more of a purist on varieties--though obviously most varieties are grafted on to non-native root stocks.

So, I have air layered before with good results, but I have never grafted. Is it the top part of the graft that is going to be the tree or bush that I am going for? This was the first time I saw grafting. My husband saw something on the news about a new apple that is getting ready to produce in California and I am guessing that it must have been a graft. Plants are so darn interesting. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and showing us this persons expertise with grafting. There is a fellow in New Jersey that has a food forest that is on You Tube. I cannot remember his name, but he too has an excellent philosophy about his food forest.
@PeteKanarisGreenDreamsFL5 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome! I just started doing more grafting last year myself. Yes, the top part is the scion and that is the selected variety. The bottom would be the root stock.

I probably had one of the few Sabal palmetto's grown in Metro Phx over 20 yrs ago--not very common here and I haven't seen them sold in a long time. Sometimes wish I had kept it...but I traded it out 2 yrs or so later for a Bismarkia Nobilis palm, as I wanted 2 matching ones. Those were not common out here either--but are a little more readily available now...

ya man, i do a few cuts to show the camera a special trick, and they (a small percentage of worry warts) think that's how i hold a scion every time i cut...the camera angle makes it look close, but i'm tellin ya i got over 1000 grafts, and never a cut to the wrist...there is no right way or wrong way to cut a scion, do it how you feel comfortable.

maybe the camera angle makes it look closer than it was, but i got over 1000 trees grafted, with zero cuts to the wrist...to each their own...u cuttm like u cuttm, i cuttm like i cuttm...and always try not to cut thyself...of course...and also consider, i don't cut like that all the time, just when i'm trying to show a cameraman what I'm doing...on a particular type of cut..that needs to be shown up close...
