The glutinous rice cake sandwiched in between the sweet potato and yam is called " Ti kuih " in Hokkien Chinese, Malay called it kuih bakul in which long ago Chinese usually give out to Malay/ Indian friends during Chinese New Year festival as delicacy.

For me the best type of pisang for pisang goreng is pisang raja. It's called pisang raja (literally means banana king) because it is the king of all pisang. But nowadays it's very difficult to find pisang raja. Most stalls use pisang abu like the first pisang goreng stall that Ichang and Jimmy went. I believe the second stall use pisang raja. That's why it is expensive and that's also why Jimmy asked whether they put honey on their pisang. The sweetness of pisang raja when fried is really addictive!

Me personally love the first pisang goreng that you have. It is small, sweet, an mushy. I don't know if I am late or not, Penang (or anywhere i Malaysia) have two type of famous rojak: 1. Rojak buah; a local fruit salad with shrimp paste. 2. Rojak pasembor; assorted fritters/kuih, boiled egg and potato, some cucumber and turnip, kuah kacang and maybe shrimp paste. Yo have to try both. its ok actually i think its a very apt description when u describe the beef koay teow is similar to Vietnamese pho,, so we understand what it tastes like! everyone will understand more, coz Vietnamese pho is more internationally popular n more recognizable. also when i was living in london, all the msian restaurants always serve this dessert, hot pisang goreng topped with cold vanilla ice cream n drizzle honey.........soooo good, u guys must try this....however u can't really find this in msia itself, which is very strange but i tell u its so fantastic. even in cold winter we will always end our meal with this cold dessert !!! the hot n cold contrast is extremely delightful, coz in one bite, u burn ur tongue with the hot pisang goreng n at same time u get brain freeze from the cold ice cream ! hahaHA!!! n also the pisang goreng in msia is sweet like honey, coz u have to choose ripe bananas coz they're sweet, so when they fry it the sweet banana natural sugar caramelizes when u fry it! hmmmm.... mebbe thats why they have to add honey in the london goreng pisang dessert, coz the pisang isnt as ripe or sweet n msian ones. pisang goreng in msia is like art, u must use specifc type of ripened bananas n the batter is sooo delicious, a good batter will blend perfectly with the banana n most importantly its crispy!!!
