I'm a little guilty as I live 10 minutes from Carnegie Hall and did not go, but as I am much older than you, I remember staying outside all night to get tickets for Vladimir Horowitz and it was worth it. I also flew to Germany to hear Sokolov, so I know the excitement that you felt. Martha Argerich does that for me every time. I've heard Yuja many times in person and she was sitting in front of me at an Andras Schiff recital, so it is a major experience. Thank you for this video!

To those who are interested, the music playing in the background (and being hummed) at 1:00 is Scriabin's Fantasy in B minor. Because it sounded really nice, I tried searching the comments to see if anyone recognized the theme. Some comments mentioned it was Scriabin, without disclosing the exact composition. So I decided to listen through all of Scriabin's sonatas written in a major key to see if I could match things. Didn't work out, so then I just searched for pieces by Scriabin with a key signature that matches the tone the excerpt resolves into (which is a B). Found the Fantasy, heard it for the first time, and loved it. Embarrassed that I hadn't listened to it before. Sorry for the tangent, but hope some find that helpful. I hate the feeling of not knowing the name of a piece whose melody is that good. Great vlog, by the way!

I've seen Yuja Wang a few times in London, she's phenomenal, without a doubt, and certainly worth checking out. With Martha Argerich, Mitsuko Uchida, Angela Hewitt etc. etc. still very much on the scene, I'm not quite ready to sit her on the throne just yet, though!

That's because the public transportation system in America outside of major urban areas is basically non-existent, and even in the major urban areas, it is still very automobile centric or I might go as far as saying automobile dependant. In most of America, transportation by automobile is the default and is necessary, to the point where a local market is itself many kilometers from one's domicile. In more rural parts of the US, it can take perhaps an hour or more by automobile to even get to places in a relatively local vacinity. Norms in Europe are much different then that of America. In America some states are as big if not bigger than some European countries, so this is wherein the disparity lies.

@@roku401 thank you for this helpful reply!
@jajefan123456789 Жыл бұрын
@@roku401 good explanation, and might I add that it is not just the space that has induced sprawl, it is also a result of decades-long lobbying by the automobile industry to cater our building and construction habits toward automobiles as the _default_ and not other transportation forms. (i.e. we could have just as easily built our services and living spaces more densely and close together while preserving the rest as natural land, but this was not done). Check out the KZbin channel "Not Just Bikes" for more information about this topic.
