I love the Cauldron Black! They and Pyramid Books are my favorite stores in that area. I prefer to create my own spells, so all of the other shops that had mostly premade stuff did not appeal to me. They were cute, but just not my thing.

I used to love going to Enchanted back in the 80s and talk to the queen Laurie Cabot. I believe her daughter owns it now. A lot of it the last I looked is premade for tourists but the staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I also love cauldron black and pyramid books for supplies. I haven’t been back since before the damnable Covid. It gets too crowded now during Halloween. Thanks to social media. It was so much fun back in the day AND there wasn’t a curfew. 🙄

I’ve taught at this festival a few times, and attended every year (physically or virtually). I’ve also been a psychic reader at The Cauldron Black over the years (I’m now doing readings at another Salem witch shop). I’m a HUGE fan of The Salem Witch Fest! I’ve learned so much from all the classes I’ve taken there and it has added to my practice. Also, yes to The Cauldron Black! One of my favorite stores in Salem. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and different occult products than most of the witchy stores in the area. Glad you enjoyed your experience! ✨✨

I love Salem. In 2016 my new boyfriend at the time (now my husband of 5 years) and I had a tarot card reading done that was the most accurate reading we’ve ever had. Told us so much that at time seemed outlandish that eventually did come true

I have mixed emotions about Salem Witchcraft stuff. I had several ancestors who were tortured and murdered during the trials. None of them were witches. In fact, they would be horrified to be associated with modern day witch stuff of any sort. I mean, I don’t want to deny the people of Salem their livelihoods, but I think it’s an abuse of the memory of what actually went down in Salem in 1692 to treat this like a fun fun thing. And I am a witch myself. I mean, they’d be horrified at me! But to use their tortures and murders as any reason for festivities is kind of, I dunno-Unfortunate.

I don't really feel like that was the vibe of this at all - it really was a conference with lots of different practitioners sharing their knowledge, just in Salem. Yes, there was the ritual in the Witch House, but that also felt like a huge reclamation of power for so many people of varying traditions and backgrounds to be sharing that with us, also practitioners, in a place where a prosecutor lived. Sure, there are plenty of stores that do, I think, abuse the ideas of the Salem Witchcraft Trials, but I can't say that I think the Salem Witchcraft & Folklore Festival attempted to do that. Everyone was incredibly respectful and knowledgeable, and understood Salem as a place where there was a lot of history, and dark history at that, to be reconciled with.

@@ChaoticWitchAunt Good. That is good to hear. I practice the craft, too. So, like I said, mixed feelings here. I’ve been to Salem, and I know it’s touristy year’ round, so it’s not this particular conference or anything. Thanks for giving me your reflections.
