@Nostalgia Crowning What he said. I didn't know about it until I read it in the comments, then I rewatched it. Basically the Hart family was a lesbian couple that adopted 6 black children. There's reports of abuse and apparently the couple's family didn't aprove of their education methods, so they were estranged from their parents. In 2018 they commited suicide pretty much the same way as in this episode, but none of the kids survived. I guess this is Atlanta's response to that, where the kids are actually able to get out of it. I also look at it as a comment on the fetishization of black children

The first episode of this season was based on a true story. A boy went viral wearing a free hugs sign and hugging a police officer crying. His name was Devonte Hart. Unlike the story told on the episode Devonte and the other foster children died with the two foster mothers in 2018. It was ruled suicide not long after. Edit: Devontes body was never actually found.

The guy in Blackface finally got a dose of what being Black is actually like. Blacks constantly get painted with the broad brush, blamed for each other's sins. Meanwhile whites are allowed to be individuals, judged on their own merit. In that moment he was just a random "Black" guy. to the angry promoter.

The promoter beating up the guy in black face was hilarious and deep at the same time. It goes to show is it really just about traditions and not dehumanizing a group? Because to some (the promoter in this case) it reminded him of or saw the guy as earn to beat him up. An effect of racism the promoter probably doesn't even know he internalize.

This is a good comment on Dutch society. On the one hand they appear super liberal. On the other hand they have a long and shameful imperial history.

He literally only took it out on the guy in bIackface because he knew he could get away with it. The five seconds is him processing the fact that he can take out his frustrations on the dude and no one will defend him. It's actually quite demented on multiple fronts, really.

No. Yes. It hits on a surface and a deeper level. Misplaced anger. The fact that ANY black face will do to get HIS aggression out. It wasn’t about earn. Or, he thinks all black ppl look alike. But you can see in his face that he realizes it’s not earn

This episode kinda felt derivative of other episodes. It didn’t feel as fresh like seasons 1 and 2 did, it feels like the show is almost becoming a parody of itself.
