They've always had similar desires, just a difference of opinion about what was possible. Charles imagined a world where everyone could live in peace, while Erik assumed that wasn't possible and so fought for a world where at least mutants could live in peace, even if that meant removing the humans to make it happen. But both of them fought for peace in their own ways.

In chess, a gambit is a sacrifice to gain an advantage usually to protect and advance the queen. In this case Gambit made the ultimate sacrifice. A very poetic symbolism. A bittersweet moment. That is why this episode for me cuts deep and now you know why he is my favorite X-Men and even my favorite Marvel character of all time.

I don't cry at TV\Movies. Not a macho thing. Just a suspension of disbelief thing. Now, I know I'm getting sentimental in my old age. And I did grew up watching the original X-men series, so I'm sure that is part of it, but after watching this my 7 year old daughter came into the room to check on me because i was a mess. Jean wasn't mad Scott and Maddie were talking, they were making out on the astral plane for the past month. For a telepath that's like the real thing. And Im not 100% convinced Magneto is dead. Part of me thinks he went underground and Leech then canceled Magneto's power so it looked like he had died. The theory has a couple problems but Im simply not ready to be done with Eric's top tier writing and dialogue. He's the Master of Saltiness lol
@Kuhlee84
@Kuhlee84 Ай бұрын
Exactly this, all of it. Though, I would be hard-pressed to be convinced they stopped at making out. I've seen a lot of reactors being very hard on Jean and giving Scott a pass in this situation. What I think they're forgetting is how deeply confused and lost Jean is feeling, both due to everything that Sinister did to her and because the person who has always been her rock, Scott, is completely absent. He's even pulled back from the psychic rapport they had for more than a decade. Her mind is completely jumbled, and the one person who has been steady from the moment she came to in the med lab was Logan. I'm not saying what she did was ok, but I'm really sure it wasn't worse than the month of intentional choices Scott was making.

The issue around this will probably be a plotline in the future. At the same time, I don't see everything going back to the way it was. Good writing should have consequences that linger even after time travel mcguffins are applied. I'm not saying don't bring Gambit back tho.

@@Kuhlee84 I would buy that they moved on to other things past kissing. Jean has definitely been violated, and her entire existence called into question. She's got legitimate issues. Jean seems to be displaying a form of dissociative amnesia, where she can recall facts and information but they lack emotional resonance. It's a real thing. I largely understand and forgive Jean for kissing Logan. The two bits of infidelity between Scott and Jean are simply not equivalent.

I think Jean's situation is complicated even more by her memory issue. The show has had her comment on it a few times, even in the scene under the lake with Logan here, but it's not be the direct focus of an episode yet. It seems to me like her memory is jumbled, out of order with some parts she can barely remember and other things entirely missing. Like her comment at not realizing Wolverine was there is taken by a lot of people as just another jab at wolverine but I think it's intended to show that Jean genuine is missing entire elements of her life, even events she recalls are not intact in her mind. So she has only semi-coherent memories of Cyke and her relationship, she knows she loved him but I get the sense she's seeing all those past events as if through a filter rather than as her own personal experience. She's essentially been forcibly disassociated from her own mind and life. I hope it gets focused at some point because that is an incredibly interesting idea to explore.

Having that last line be Rogue reuse her earlier line but in a *very* different context was a helluva way to end the episode. I think that broke us all. As it has been all season the writing is just too tired, from Kurt being super quotable to the fight with Scott and Jean and realising why Logan's line "I've only seen one of you, just the one" hit Jean so hard she kissed him... To obviously everything Rogue, Remy, and Erik. Despite how many times we saw him in the old series, he was only ever Cable from 3999, this is the first time they've acknowledged him as Nathan and what a way to do it ... I'm wondering if he'll be the "solution" to what happened, but then do we lose some of the big character growth moments and still leave everyone in messy places .... I need the next episode, lol.

Wow, this was almost my exact reaction. It was such a roller coaster ride. While crying about Gambit getting stabbed and still getting excited about Gambit’s final move.

So I understand the confusion here, and many people have thrown out that what we saw on X-Men ’97 was a Tri-Sentinel, as it has three heads. That is not a Tri-Sentinel. As noted above, it is a Wild Sentinel Master Mold, hence the genesis of this article! As of yet, the Tri-Sentinel has not appeared on X-Men ’97 or X-Men: The Animated Series. So what is a Tri-Sentinel? It’s pretty much what it sounds like… Loki took three Sentinels and magically mushed them together to attack a power plant, only to be stopped by Spider-Man. It has three faces, six arms, and a bone to pick with Spidey in particular. To be fair, a Sentinel with three faces is the clear inspiration for the Wild Sentinel mentioned above. But they are different things, so there you go.

This episode hurts my head so much. I can feel the stress knowing what happens, and re-watching reviews of it over and over. I know the show is good, but mentally not healthy for me! But still like a masocist mourn Gambits death over and over. It's def like the train wreck you can't get away from looking at.

I think you get lulled into a false sense of happiness and security. You see all these mutants you love, all this joy, and then they punch you in the gut with E is for extinction.

At least before her imminent death, Maddie was able to reunite with her baby and see that he survived. Jean is being unfair to Scott. It’s not like he was cheating on her with another woman (like he did in his affair with Emma) - Maddie _is_ Jean. The Jean that he was in love with, married and had a child with.

Magnetos final moment was poignant and beautiful, but also…there’s no way that leech a mutant who lived and grew up in the sewers understands German, so the last thing he heard before he died was pure gibberish.

I saw reactions to X-Men on Twitter before watching & I know they are adapting post-dated stories so it was a tad spoiled for me but what a gut punch. Also, timestamp 20: 40 in the episode. Lefthand side

New subscriber because your video was good. yes this was a tear jerker, I dropped a few as well. I expected the relaunch to be a failure but they put cinematics and drama in to it. I'm going to be another fan that waits for the next episode
