The original author is a woman. Why are you having delusions?Maybe it's because you yourself are interested in young children?😅

An explanation of Luffy's "sudden" growth imo is understanding how his devil fruit sort of works more and more as he thinks of different moves and stuff. Also as you stated, the fact that he needs to get stronger to protect his crew. Luffy is a buffon in many ways, but there are 2 forms of intelligence where he seems very potent. Combat intelligence, and emotional intelligence. As far as character development goes, I believe the vast majority consider Water seven to be where the show really takes off. If you think about it like a diagram, then water seven went from linear to exponential!

To be fair, he'd have spanked any of the guys in the same situation.

By the end I liked him more... but yeah sound Hashira is hard to like.

The spank is basically there for those weirdos that find it hot...? No he is supposed to be hard to like. What better way to make you not like a person.

This did in one episode what DS tried to do in an entire series of Trauma and Tragedy, and didn't it so thoroughly better it's SHOCKING

Jajaja I´m dying to hear again your opinion of Tengen at the end of the season. Let´s see how it changed. Don´t take the spank that serious, is more like a authority demostration. Like saying "There will be consequences". He is actually a nice guy.
🤔 Summoned familiar control = virtual reality game 😎

Don't worry you'll get over it as soon as the mission truly begins and you'll see one of the craziest demons yet. The fights get pretty chaotic.

Sometimes creator purposefully paint their protagonists in a light that might put of the audience. Tengen is a very strange character that has a certain vibe to him but you'll see as the anime progresses. It's a tool used by the creator to misguide the viewer. You're supposed to not like him in the beginning. While I absolutely stand by you on the take that many anime have this flaw I still have to say this is not one of those situations.

seeing the spank as immediately "sexual" is weird in itself, its always been more as a punishment/disciplinary especially around the time the show is set, sure its odd but dont apply modern use of things on a show not set in our modern real world

As much as I get uncomortable with the spank, it makes perfect sense. The spank is supposed to seen as disciplinary not sexual. Remeber this is early 20 century so spank punisments are normal unlike today. And a note worthy thing is that the demon slayer corp is military organization and Aoi refused a higher ranking memeber's demand which was reasonable. All he asked was to do her job and help kill demons. Just giving a light spank as a punishment can be seen as a form of mercy in a setting like this.

Spanking children as punishment used to be a thing in German schools as well not too long ago. (Late 20th century)

This is very much an example of what happens when people from the west view something and judge it by standards of the culture in the west, and are sometimes unable to take a step back and look at it from the culture it came from. It is also a very obvious gag that I genuinely laughed at out loud when I first saw it, i mean the dude literally has 3 wives and his actions aren't remotely sexual from the moment we see him taking them away. But it's also because people here in the west tend to only see cartoons as a "children's" medium or at most a "teenager" medium, and anime is no exception, which is also not helped by the Western distribution companies who stupid enough to censor the title of this very arc from the Red Light District Arc to the Entertainment District Arc despite it being a historical location, which then makes anyone who is a more casual viewer of anime completely ignorant of where this is actually taking place and what is actually happening in the story and did happen in history.

Haven't read the manga but saw this reveal coming from a mile away since episode 6 with all the call me mommy thing. Yeah, let's just take two innocent characters and murder them on screen in cold blood. So uncalled for and such an easy tropey bait to produce cheap "feels" from the viewer with zero buildup. Especially with the overly super fluffy happy sterile daily life of a mother and a child shown in that scene prior which never happens like that in real life to begin with and is only shown in movies to make the sharp contrast with the next scene. Wouldn't call it the best episode of the year. Just less mid episode than the previous ones. I'm probably just tired of every single manga/anime nowadays being a copy-paste battle shounen thst even an episode like this might look like the "best of year" in comparison...

It's weird and I don't like it either, but from what I understand this is a "disciplinary spank", not a sexual one. It still makes me uncomfortable. Glad it's a one off moment.
