The band was ask to speed up the act, because time was short. Thus you have this hilarious performance by Focus. I think it was magnificent what they did. All of these musicians are masters of their art.

I think it was even better than the original with sped up tempo

I've read they were asked to shorten the song to fit a given time window. They refused doing so and played the song faster to make it fit

Song brings joy to almost everybody who hears it. Amazingly talented group, one of my favorites. Thijs Van Leeer - Organ, Vocals, Flute, etc., Jan Akkerman - Guitar, Bert Ruiter - Bass, Pierre Van Der Linden - Drums. Nobody who hasn't seen it before has any idea what awesomeness they are about to see :-) Love this. Thanks!

You just witnessed one of the most prolific examples of progress rock. I would get into such trouble as a kid for sneaking out of bed to watch Midnight Special, lol. I was maybe 10 years old when this was broadcast...well worth getting into trouble over!

Love your reaction! The band was told they have 4 minutes of tv time for a little over 6 minute long song. The band decided to speed the tempo up to make it fit in the time allowed. The only standing ovation on the Midnight Special. Just incredible.

More than 50 years later the performance still causes confusion. This performance was thanks to its speed the ultimate version of the song.

James, your reaction is fantastic haha. What a mad rendition of the track. Prog Rock at it's most manic. For a change of mood a little, try listening to Renaissance - Ashes Are Burning (Live studio 1974) 😊

James! This was a huge hit at that time. Like you spotted, having Gladys Knight introduce you is also epic. What a performance, it was faster than the actual single, which is also epic. You can’t go wrong. Maybe listen to an original audio to see the difference off camera? It’s worthy. Good to see you back and operational! I’m gonna ask for another Tori Holub song if you are ready. I think the shock and awe has passed and we can safely explore her range. You’ve heard the low end with her Karen covers. Let’s ask you to explore her other end. Oh as I write this on 9/2, it’s her 21st birthday! It is another song with Dan Wesley. This is a duet titled “Suddenly.” It is from the 1980 movie Xanadu. The original singers were Cliff Richard & Olivia Newton-John. Are you familiar with this? Dan is much more active in this one as you will see and Tori does 2 things new here. Her first full length Olivia cover and another thing I’ll leave for you to discover, I don’t want to spoil it. Have fun with this one, it’s more a joy than serious.
