When I was younger I would have been like you, or just left. Funny how the years make you braver and you speak up for yourself more. I would have told them something, and I would have complained to the store employee loud enough for "The Ladies" to hear me as I left the thrift store. Never let anyone make you feel out of place or less than you are!! Enjoy your yarn!

Don't let snobs keep you away from shops or things you love. I belonged to a knitting/crochet group that had a lot of snobs. I went to be with people who knitted/crocheted. I usually sat at a corner of a table with snobs, but away from them as best I could. There were 4 ladies in this group that made me feel comfortable, so I continued to go cause of these ladies. When they passed away, I stopped going.

I totally get where you’re coming from. Yarn snobs are super annoying. That’s why I quit hanging out in LYS years ago. I’m an online gal 💯. I enjoy acrylic yarns and merino wool. No need to be snobby about crafting. I’ve never understood it? Doesn’t matter where you shop just as long as everyone is being crafty! It’s a therapeutic hobby and we don’t need judgers judging us.

My Grandmother used to say about people like that "fur coat and no knickers" meaning they want everyone to think they can afford the coat but not underwear, lol. She had a lot of sayings like that. Don't let them get you down Jennifer, you got some beautiful finds and will have lots of joy working with them, embrace the joy and wish for those people to get moths, 😂😂😂😂😂😂

I was watching a Hobby Lobby yarn haul on another channel and the person told how they loaded every hand dyed hank into a chart then found an empty spot in the store so they could pick out what they wanted. I used to subscribe to the channel but you have never seen anyone hit thumbs down and unsubscribe so fast. I don't understand this mentality. I think most of us have more yarn then we will ever use, I know I do. It still doesn't stop me from grabbing a good deal but I'm very careful of what and how much I buy. We all love the colors and textures, I mean who can resist. You see a great deal on yarn, ideas immediately spring to mind and we're off and running. We get home with our bags or post comes, the OMGs this is wonderful kick in and we forget about the project already on hook. We grab a hook and first thing you know the other project get put aside and lost for months, by then we have lost interest or can't remember what it was, lol. When I'm buying at the store and there is only so much of one item I try to remember the times I've had no or very little money and not hoard in the store. If you have clean out the hanks into a cart to go browse at your leisure remember that while you are doing your in store hoarding someone may have made a special trip in hoping of getting the yarn they wanted at a good deal. They go in, go to the yarn and there is nothing there, so in disappointment they leave feeling sad . Let everyone have some joy of a good deal and excitement of creating.

I went yesterday to my local yarn shop for the first time since last year, looking for a specific yarn. There were more empty aisles than skeins, and there was not one single blue yarn (in any material and weight) in the whole store.

I have experienced that LYS feeling too! The bougie knitters are a piece of work! I used to let that kind of stuff get to me but not anymore! If it had been me at the B'more store, I would have said to them excuse me, I'd like to look at the yarn, please! Anyway, I understand about that type of clientele. I'm originally from Maryland, so I know all about those ladies! 😂 I used to work in a bougie grocery store in Bethesda that served the Bethesda, Potomac, Chevy Chase areas. Talk about snooty! 🤣

Hello Jennifer!! I work in a thrift store. We have "entitled" people who stand by our doors and grab everything as soon as we push a cart full out ro be put away! Especially on the day we offer senior discounts!! Just imagine if they were that rude to you how the treat the workers!! It can be frustrating for sure!!

I worked at the Salvation Army so I know what you experience. They really think they aren’t acting out and I always made them wait until I put the carts away. I never tolerated back talk and if you had nothing nice to say to my fellow employees or I then you had to go…PERIOD. I was the first shift supervisor and I made many changes when I started there. So many people stayed away because of the Entitled Ones, but by the time I gave my two weeks and moved on, the store had customers that knew to behave in my store. I check in with my old boss, she still works there and has kept my policies in place. That ScrapB-More needs to do the same. If they can’t be courteous and act like they have sense then they need to leave.

People complain about the younger generations all the time but I find it’s the senior citizens that are more likely to be crabby, entitled jerks.
@npepperc4437
@npepperc4437 Жыл бұрын
Why do you consider people entitled if they’re standing there waiting to get some thing because they have the money to get it. There are a lot of less fortunate people who will stand there and do exactly the same thing because they are hoping to be able to get it and they also have the money to stay in there and afford that particular item so just because they’re standing there waiting for something or trying to get into something or guarding. It doesn’t mean that they’re entitled. It just means an item that they really want and they are trying to make sure that they get it.

I got a fabulous cotton zauerball for a cowl for my sister at an LYS in traverse city. It was about 20-22. The colors are fabulous! I got a denim colored zauerball at the same LYS in TC, in their sale room, for about 10 dollars. Sadly, there was ONLY one. I LOVE, love, LOVE denim colored yarns! When Michael's had the pantone bamboo yarns, there was an indigo color and I bought them out more than once. LOL

I love my local thrift store! I have found some vintage, expensive high end yarn for very reasonable prices. My favourite find was emerald green mohair yarn (permanently moth-proofed) that matched a mohair coat my mom had in the '60s (the yarn was probably from that time or close because the ball band was individually typed with a typewriter!). I made a lace shawl for her 80th birthday and she loves it. If you did not enjoy your visit to the store, no need to apologize to anyone. Just do what pleases you. I've not experienced anyone grabbing something out of my hand but have experienced other shoppers purposefully blocking my view/way to the merchandise. You got some really nice yarn.

Can I just say that a few of those skeins gave off a distressed vibe, like one of those biddies was whipping them around! Yes, $100 is a lot for rescued yarn, and I'm Canadian! That being said, some of the yarn was exquisite, and it was an opportunity to buy yarn that would not necessarily be within an affordable price range.

I so agree with you on the pricing. If it's a thrift store, it needs to be low enough to consider it thrifty! I have not been to any here in years now, because they priced themselves right out of my business. A fact I informed them of as I was leaving... if I can buy it new for a buck or two more, why would I get it here??? I'm not quite as nice are you are, Jen. Or maybe it's cuz at my age, my allotment of taking crap off people has run out! But you did get some great stuff. I wouldn't recognize the brands of most of them before, but I will now! Love you!

I had a purse put aside for me at our local goodwill and another lady waited and told a different worker it was hers and paid for it. When I told the worker who put the purse aside for me she didn’t do anything about it so the woman was able to effectively steal it from me. It was the only VeraBradley purse I’ve ever seen made in denim fabric, and I’ve never seen another one anywhere, so it must be rare.

I agree, 75% off or more on retail is what I expect, especially since it is donated for free to these places.(Goodwill is the worst) I am glad I haven't gone there yet. When you mentioned the scrap place in Richmond I looked up the locations and thought maybe I'd make a trip to that one, one day...but the hours they are open are weird! Lol However that is always my luck, I have it on my forehead for people like that to find me, it is like my drama button that doesn't wash off!😂😂 My husband always says...the crazies just find you, you are such a magnet for the Drama Queens! *Sigh* yup, yup I am too nice and they see through me quickly. 🙄 I am glad you found some nice yarn though and still 50% isn't bad. I'm sad for juju. I like to think that karma finds inpatient people like that sometimes and juju's golden find just wasn't there but will be around the corner for her soon. Luckily you found your German ball, can't wait to see that worked up as a cowl from your addi. Hugs to juju, tell her to hang in there, good vibes to her, and it says a lot about how she handled it too. Xoxo❤❤❤

If that's the type of clientele the store usually has, then that may be why the prices are higher than other thrift stores. They know the WEW's will buy it thinking they got a bargain because they didn't pay retail.

Just stumbled on your channel. You are so sweet in your story telling. I also feel the same about material on sale. I have to feel it & visualized a finished project. I too, knit mostly Nordic sweaters for my family & friends, from size 2 to 42, socks, toques mitts, slippers, what every I want to tackle. Love to crochet Afghans (currently have over 100 in different sizes & colours) & can’t seem to sell them. So I donate to single parent homes, Hospices, shipped some to US I think Texas. I overdid a purchase 2 yrs ago….saved my money & purchased yarn in the amount of $2500.00 in a large variety of colour. That made me giddy like you wouldn’t believe. But have yet to purchase yarn from a thrift store. I will have to check that out for sure. You never have enough yarn. Thanks a bunch for a fun video. Will certainly watch out for those ‘entitled, bougie’ clients! Stay safe, stay healthy. Oh by the way, when I have booboos because of the yarns, I treat my hands at night. Saturate with lotion & wear cotton gloves, overnight. Helps a bit. Au revoir, for now. 🙏❤️🇨🇦

Never found yarn like that after we left, and I looked where we lived allover. ( My husband was Air Force) I crochet towel tops if I use yarn now, can't work with the small stuff anymore. It was nice listening to you , and nice yarn.

Perhaps you could put some of your speciality yarns into a family heirloom blanket.😊 one to pass down hopefully one day to your grandchildren and great grandchildren. That would really make all your anxiety about it worthwhile ❤😊😅 Love always Lynne x

I love seeing all you got. I really like the kinda rainbow one you got. I'm not familiar with any of the brands though. I have heard of a couple from another yarn channel. We all get used to certain kinds, I am used to the plain acrylic stuff 😅. Loved your video and your, sorry for the wall guards.

My favorite Thrift Store in Wallingford Vermont will put 2 hanks in a zip lock bag and they mark them for about 10 to 12. The first time I went I spent 35 and got about 40 skeins of yarn. I stop in regularly as you never know what your going to find. I even picked up a pair of Danskos for 35 and were almost new

Jennifer I cannot wait craft reused store hear what thrift store you're never going to go to again and why? Happy Friday Jennifer! I cannot wait to see the yarn! I am not a fan of the blue Playard and I don't think $3 and some odd cents is inexpensive for a thrift store quico Hanks are very pretty I just happen to not like using Hanks cuz I don't have anything to make them into cakes! Then that was a great by! The sour ball looks really beautiful I love the look of the watermelon ball!❤

My daughter works at a thrift shop near us. She has told me stories of people rush them when they brought out new stuff. It's a mad house and worse on saturdays. She has known people who have gotten hurt when this happens. Mean nasty and grabby. It is awful that people are so selfcentered and nasty these days. Not everyone but most are I think.

I’m in Southern Delaware and there is a store in Bethany Beach that made me feel the same way. They have such nice, different yarns, but it seemed that I felt like a second class citizen when I said I crochet. 😂 Not by the sales woman, but the people shopping in there. It was such an uncomfortable feeling. I’m hesitant to go back, but would love to explore their yarn collection for special pieces. So weird.

Hi Jenn, I know the guilt feeling of what you are talking about. It's called "I'm a mom". I always and still do put my family 1st. Mom comes last, I mostly did this when buying clothes, undergarments etc. I started crocheting. around 2015-16. do you know last week was the 1st time I made something for myself, and I can't even wear this. lol I made a hanging plant. when I buy yarn what goes through my mind is which color goes with which persons favorite colors. my favorite color is purples, but I love all colors as well, so how much purple do I have? very little, so yeah Jenn, you are a mom 1st, cinnamon 2nd, and Jenn last. God bless

That’s ok because when you talked about your experience it was priceless and you said something that needed to be said ! I am a knitter too but I can really see what you were getting at because people like that have a selfish attitude. So glad you got an awesome haul Jennifer. Come back to the 757 Refuse when they move to MacArthur mall .

That was interesting. I live in south Florida and encounter those kinds of people almost every where I shop. I have just walked away many times and I’m old 78 😫 such is life. I stopped selling for that reason any of my crochet items. The buyers are uneducated on yarns used, and think you are overpriced. Nice haul for the $.

Against my better judgment I went into Micheals as I was in the area. I had said nope never going again. I bought yarn I had wanted 30% off. But then I get to front and I had to check myself out. Usually not against this , but my old ladies were missing and now you have to get your coupons to work. Sooooo here I come Mary maxim and Premier.

Yes, Jen, the yarn is worth $100 if it brings you pleasure and helps you to share your joy of crocheting/knitting. So, enjoy with no guilt! 😍 Also, do not let anyone steal your joy (e.g. the snobby shoppers).

I wish I could get Homespun to work in my Addis but, nope. I nearly got a sweater completed, knitting by hand, and decided I don't like it and will RiP it. The stitches are hard to see. I just don't know what I'm going to do with all of this off-white Homespun. When snobs act like they do, don't let them control you negatively. Say a prayer for them, because they will get their "reward" someday.

You're not alone.....I suffer from shoppers guilt as well. I feel as if I have to justify every thing I buy even though I spend little and most of the yarn I buy is to make items to sell at a stall at my local craft market. I do sympathize with you.

Jennifer the yarn was worth the money and you don’t have to prove yourself to others because they are no better than you are in fact you are better than they are and I love your videos.I live in Queensland Australia and high end yarn is very expensive here .I am looking forward to Crochet Guild of Australia Conference in June and I am going to be buying beautiful hand dyed yarns.I am also looking forward to visiting some of the yarn stores In Sydney where the conference is being held.
