"I ask you for nothing... but I am giving you my trust as a member of Starfleet" That is leadership...and Star Trek is always written for the time...today we are desperately seeking leadership. Here's to a new generation of leaders.

I just really liked how the tables have turned and now the Vulcans are against helping and its the Romulans who want to.
@obsidiansands
@obsidiansands 3 жыл бұрын
Vulcans against helping isn't new, they were the ones who kept trying to get Starfleet to slacken their jumps in tech and exploration during the Archer era when they tried to keep humans from going too far too fast. The Romulans were always impulsive and did not sit idly by, it goes against the very "calm" of Vulcan logic. They're two sides of the same coin - the very principle of IDIC. It was also nice to see "Messiah" Burnham being something other than an insubordinate, insta-cry bitch who doesn't give a fuck about the rules. Though it does sort of make her a bit of a hypocrite since she didn't give a fuck about Starfleet and rules before half the time she goes AWOL with her one-bitch-army insubordination every now and then.

@@obsidiansands you missed my point. The Vulcans were one of Earths most trusted partners in the Federation after it was formed. Everything was shared. Its like Britain all of a sudden turning face on the US and the Chinese coming to the rescue.

@@ChrisParadise-wv5iz And you also missed my point as well. Vulcans - despite being "trusted" partners - were also trying to stymie Earth and Starfleet at some points in the Archer era because they were afraid the humans were going to far too fast. Had you watched some of Enterprise, you would know some of the arguments Archer and some parts of Starfleet had against them - Archer was right up to a point, but he was also wrong also up to a point. Fact of the matter is, Vulcans can also be asses even back in the TOS era despite being "trusted" partners. As much as I dislike STD, they got Vulcans somewhat right in that episode.

@obsidiansands
@obsidiansands 3 жыл бұрын
@@ChrisParadise-wv5iz they're still the same Vulcans. Few Vulcans like Spock are the exception, not the rule. Besides, this is STD, almost everything they do somehow finds a way to shit on Trek lore in one form or another. They don't even have a temporal agency that SHOULD also be active in their time. They've got more inconsistencies even within it's own lore; in the Trek Shorts, the Discovery was never refit after being abandoned, yet now it is. Vulcans breaking away from the FEDs despite being "trusted partners" says about how they haven't changed much even before the formation of the Federation - whereas in Prime Trek, they're thick as thieves with their friendship with the humans and the Federation, especially since they're part of the founding members.
@agoogleuser1236

I remember counselor Troi mentioning how Romulans had a fascination with humans (through the lens of their self-annointed racial supremacy, mind you) and multiple Vulcans have expressed a sense of being pleasantly surprised by humanity's strange tendency to have strong emotion but embrace logic when the time is critical. Some Vulcans have even come to learn that sometimes, a little emotion can be far more logical than stoic reasoning alone. Humanity has always served as the Romulo-Vulcan temperance; a species so eerily similar to both Romulans and Vulcans but able to strike the passion and logical balance both offshoots took to extremes. And of course, humanity learned a great deal from the Vulcans during their infancy in space travel, and even learned some from the Romulans (particularly their fringe organizations like the Quwot Milat). Ni'Var and Earth will always share a common destiny in Star Trek due to their people's complementing one another with their best qualities, and I love it.

I originally skipped Discovery, I tried to watch a first season episode but was utterly disappointed. Like ST:Picard, the Kelvin movie reboots and so much of new Trek. But this. I have watched highlights from Discovery's 3rd season and scenes like this, for example scenes from 3x03, 3x05 and the ending scenes from 3x13, are the finest Star Trek I have seen in DECADES. THIS is the Federation. THIS is Star Trek. Honor, Duty, Loyalty, the Greater Good. Doing what's right, even if it hurts. Remembering that we are all in it together, together we can make the world better. Watching some of these scenes actually makes me cry. It's taken a LONG time to get writers who FINALLY understand the real meaning of Star Trek, not pew-pew firefights. The scenes are spectacular, thank you to the crew for making them.

Greetings and welcome. Don't worry too much about canon. In a franchise older than 50 years there is plenty of mistakes and contradictions. Add to that the boundless imagination of franchised novels, fanfiction and fan productions, which sometimes makes into the canon, like the name Ni'Var. The best resource to understand who is who and what is what in canon is called Memory Alpha, the wiki of Star Trek. Memory Beta is for novels and the rest. Fanfiction is an universe to explore. If you want to take the full trip, you might start by googling "the best episodes" of the different shows and taking a look, or, if you aren't in a hurry, start at Memory Alpha with the second pilot episode "Where no man has gone before" and follow the order of production arrows for The Original Series, and the release order for everything else. It makes much more sense in that way, IMHO. Or, just watch whatever you want and have fun. It works too. 🖖☺

The truth does not rest nor does it care about our feelings towards it. If the truth would destroy Ni'Var now it will destroy Ni'Var whenever it is found, there is no point delaying it. That is an emotional matter, not a logical one. Truth remains true, it does not become less true or more true, nor do its effects lessen over time. There is nothing logical about this decision, its all emotion. Unless of course you consider the emotional manipulation a part in the logical calculus, if that is the case then yes. Using emotions to manipulate the other to provide the data one requires can indeed be a logical step. However, I am certain that this is not what Burnham intended, nor what the writers wanted to convey. So no, I disagree, this is a purely emotional scene, it demonstrates no logic whatsoever. Not to mention that the truth is more important than whatever cultural divide might linger between these two people. It is evident by the behaviour of their dignitaries that they have little interest to work together as is anyway. If the level of agitation has already reached that strata of society, a bloody and violent conflict between the two is already inevitable.

From the original Balance of Terror airing back in the 60’s, I have waited for the day that Romulans and Earth could be friends. They have been my favorite Star Trek race for decades and so often I was disappointed by the way the Star Trek Universe treated them. This, to me made up for all of that. Here, the Romulan desire to be a part of something great, while the Vulcans close themselves behind their ‘superiority’ is perfectly displayed. Fro once, the Romulans get the respect they deserve, and the Vulcans, well their arrogance is again exposed. It’s good to me to see, for once, the Romulan Way respected even in comparison to the followers of Surak

That’s sort of my issue with the concept of The Burn on the whole. Damage control and investigation would be the first two steps to determine what happened and how to go about fixing it. So nobody noticed this signal from the ship or the fact it was a shockwave and not an instantaneous event? As much as I personally dislike the cause of The Burn, I can’t seem to reconcile the fact various governments and institutions just gave up investigating seemingly after the second day. I admit to not having watched the 3rd season at present and have only seen clips, so perhaps there is an explanation for why and how the assorted groups have up or couldn’t figure it out.

Like Michael Burnham. I recognize that nothing will be easy! But there's always a very great hope that we will be able to use the knowledge gained from this last year! And certainly learn from it! There's those who hold to past glories and blindly assume that it is the only way out. Those who repeat the mistakes of the past are fated to repeat them! There are those who have! And even in Britain, they fail to learn from it! I take solace in the fact that there's a realistic majority of people who will stand with wisdom, reason and sense! None of this is going to be easy in the coming. But there's a hope that if a decision of not accepting that face value of politicians. Might encourage wisdom after all! When losing almost everything. As we have. As the Federation of Planets did after that great burn! There is the hope of unity. The great fire for ALL of us! Was largely due to Covid-19. Now comes the thoughts of rebuilding and reconciliation. Logic and Passion have failed us all. When there's almost nothing left, the only functional option is to rebuild! That's NOT going to be quick or rapid. It's going to take time for that! Spock said as much! In Star Trek Discovery. Was he wrong? You know what? I don't think he was!
@CrestOfArtorias

It is a good thing something like the Federation would never be feasible in the first place. Only in a TV show can a society like that exist. Like the Terran Empire, the Federation would not survive its infancy in the real world, thankfully so I might add. There is never going to be unity, about anything, at best there will be the good will to tolerate those who disagree. Unity generally implies that people are willing to put aside their differences in service of a greater goal, which is not going to happen unless the extinction of our species is the alternative. Even then it is likely not everyone will agree. Unity is a childish concept. Humanity was never united on any issue, heck most countries or cities, or even families aren't united on most issues. To believe that someday, somehow we would achieve a state in which we would all be in agreement is laughable.

The third-person singular possessive pronoun is "its," not "it's." Just like my/mine, your/yours, his, hers, and their/theirs, the possessive pronoun "its" does not have an apostrophe. "It's" is a contraction of "it is." The rules are simple. The rules are your friends, if you choose to make them yours.

That was a moment in which i was hoping the writers REALLY would allow burnham to change and develope her character and actually LEARN from her past.Sadly i think the next thing she'll do is steal a starship, bring her crew into trouble, start a war, have some thousand people killed and... regret nothing.And then they again would want the audience to understand why still everybody likes her and excuses her.... Every man who ever uttered those words did so from behind the barrel of a gun. Millions have died shortly thereafter with Gods name in their ears over things as paltry as tea and cotton. Jesus loves us, but the people that call their selves his like have much to answer for. Till that day comes those words will always be viewed with suspicion. They often hide ulterior motives.

Gentlepersons! I am somewhat well qualified to respond to both your own perception and opinion! I happen to be a church chorister in the British Isles! And of the Church of England. God respects the sense of responsibility and quiet courageous determination of all people in and of faith! And certainly the point of clarity to responsibility and quiet courageous determination. In defence of vulnerable communities in Britain. I kicked off on a very clear cut and persisting call on the PM to get the vaccine deployed sooner than later! There's some measured cautionary indicators that I may have been successful in the doing so! Arguing 3 times a week for almost 4 months may have achieved the outcome of this matter, coming true! I have held optimism that it is coming to be! And certainly the effort to do so! Has wrought a very positive outcome. There was no use of any weapons, but those of sense, reason and wisdom to win through! I have definitely been constant in this regard.
