Once you hit 20, you’re an ordinary person.” It also doesn’t help that with the school system being focused on helping the slower students, the quicker ones don’t get pushed to expand their knowledge (I was able to get through secondary school with little to no studying and I wasn’t even one of the ‘special’ kids as my attention span was nihil in elementary school) Edit: for those who don’t know the exclamation mark is part of the title

This really sounds like something Abuela has drilled into her whole family, they have to be strong for the town- like in the movie, Abuela constantly telling the townspeople that everything is fine because 'We are the Madrigals!'' It also reminds me of the song from Rescuers if you ever saw that, you know: 'R-E-S-C-U-E, Rescuing society, Heads held high, Touch the sky, You mean everything to me.'

I always felt like she was never given the gift she wanted for a very important reason. The casita saw that she was the foundation holding the family together when they needed it the most and never gave her a gift because she already had a gift. She brought people together for a very good reason. She saw all the flaws, all the pain, and everything hidden from the view of others. She saw the truth behind it all, a falling apart family under so much pressure due to impossible expectations... She couldn't just sit there and tried her best to bring everyone together once again. She did it and that is her gift. The casita couldn't give a truly gifted child something they already had, the gift of bringing the family together... There was never anything wrong with her but she felt out of place because she wasn't given her gift but born with it instead. She didn't need the flowers to bloom right before her eyes, insane strength, healing through food, or even the ability to tell the future. She just needed her family...

WOW Ashley H! This was very beautiful and I loved it. You are very talented. The first part when young Mirabel’s singing, that really hit me very hard in the heart for I always felt like an outcast in my family. They love me, but I feel that I’m a burden and that I’m very different to them. None of them understands me completely, I always hide my emotions and act like nothing is happening when I’m with them. I’ve hurted them very bad when I tried to commit suicide twice and I’m scared that they will reject me nor that they won’t accept me for who I am. I am used to being just a shadow, invisible, very lonely, to live in/with this pain. I always felt that they will/would be better off without me in their lives. So I identified a lot with young Mirabel’s part. So thank you for this marvelous song. Poor Abuela and Mirabel (but let’s don’t forget about Bruno too). I need a miracle too, is it too much to ask?
