How would you rate the general fitness of new recruits now compared to when you joined (e.g. you fitter colleagues ;- back then)? And are the full-time, trained infantry soldiers fitter nowadays than say in the 70s or 80s? I know that's before your time, but there must be Army records or anecdotes documenting that. I suppose it's a question of the Army standards for ongoing fitness. And what about officers? I remember a fairly recent documentary that showed one overweight, rather unfit Major returning to field service after doing ceremonial duties. I didn't much fancy his chances outside an armored vehicle.

hi craig, i’ve got a couple questions, i’m going to the assessment centre soon, and i do athletics for my local club and currently running right around 16 mins for 5k, when/ if i get through basic training, do you think i’ll have time to train again when i start phase two? as well as this i’m built like a stick, 5’9 and 125lbs, i can do pull-ups but am not that strong, i’m confident i can pass the basic requirements but do you think i should try and focus on getting stronger or fitness? cheers any helps would be brilliant!
@KingSloth
@KingSloth 3 жыл бұрын
Athletics is massive within the army so there is plenty of time to get back into training once you've completed phase 1. We had a lad last year go away to Hawaii to partake in cross country and he has loads of time off to train.
@cianmckeaney3608
@cianmckeaney3608 3 жыл бұрын
thats a great question, I was 6ft and 140lbs (1500m runner). Keep your training the same but maybe swap a running session for a gym session once a week. Mo Farah uses weights in the gym and he's the greatest long distance runner ever so youre not going to lose any aerobic fitness.

Just curious, how many miles should I be running for? I'm currently training 3 times a week, doing kettlebells and running about 2k. I'm also in the middle of adding clubbells into my training. And I'm trying do extra stretching on my rest days. The Sergeant at my local reserves unit is hoping to get me on for my alpha training in June. I'm planning to join the RLC as a Port Operator.

I recently did my TST. It's mandatory at selection if you want to join RE or REME. You should be able to get a sample paper online. I'm not the best at math but I did a little practice using KZbin videos. I got 35. You only need 17 marks I think. Goodluck man.

@JammyDodger45
@JammyDodger45 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. Although it's uncommon. Firstly you'll be offered remedial training, if that doesn't work you'll then go back a few weeks in training and join a later recruit troop to repeat whatever you struggled with. If you still can't cut it you'll be offered a different trade more suited to your skillset. If, after all that, you're still unsuccessful then it's "bye bye have you ever thought of working at McDonald's"?

The Navy SEALs are an American military force so I'm afraid you need to be a US Citizen, National or resident Green Card holder to join. Why not turn your sights onto being a Royal Marines Commando instead? On the upside though, with your heritage you must be one seriously cool dude. Ghana is one of the most amazing and fun places I've ever visited and whilst I've not been to Jamaica I've been to a few other Caribbean islands and they're fantastic countries full of awesome people.
