Dear Peter I think of all the blabla on KZbin this is real advice. I am the best example for this. I started a KZbin channel 2.5 years ago, tourism in Colombia. Although many travel bloggers with sometimes millions of subscribers compete against me, I am winning the race. Firstly my videos did not rank well but today if you look for whatever in accordance with traveling in Colombia, I beat almost everyone. But as I said, the videos took a long time to climb the ranking. And sometimes that looks quite funny as my videos rank first with just 1,2 or 3 thousand views and the competition with hundreds of thousands of views rank below me. But it was very hard work. Cheers from Bogota Frank

Great advice, Peter - thanks! I just started my channel in October. I'm not a pro; not doing it for a living. I love photography and decided I can and will make a channel where talk about, and demonstrate my love of my hobby (not a pro photographer either). Low numbers can be crushing - but I don't focus on them. I'm doing this because I love it. My goal is to simply be consistent (I post every 2 weeks) for a solid year. I'll take a hard look at things in October 2021 to see if I'm making any headway, and if anyone really cares about viewing my content. I think if we (beginners) do two things, we'll be fine: 1 - Don't compare to all the wonderful channels that are out there (they too were once where we are). 2 - Make your channel about something you're super passionate about. It matters! So instead of trying to make content you think others like - make what you like. It'll show in your work. Me? Twenty subscribers so far :-) with an average of 35 views. It's a slow process, and I'm fine with that. Keep rockin man - you are an inspiration to me, and those like me. Thank you. -Rusty

In my experience, the vast majority of viewers don't care what camera you're using, how perfect the light set-up is, or how clean the audio is. Of course, they notice when it's shaky cell phone junk, but they don't have the skillset to know what they are looking at. They watch and share based on emotion, entertainment, or learning something new. For all these reasons, Done is always better than Perfect. As videographers or photographers, We love to have the high end gear. We love to have this skillset, and share our creativity with others. The general public could care less. Just cover the basics and do what you enjoy.

I've just started my own channel (Drone Magic), and I am concentrating on making content, at this very early stage. I know what I'm dong at the moment is very amateurish, compared with other, more experienced KZbinrs, but I also know that I will get better as time goes by PROVIDED THAT I STICK WITH. There is so much to learn - videoing, sound, editing, content - and that's even without learning how to properly present yourself on camera, and learning how to develop a personality and style that works best for you.

Man I know exactly what your going through... my wife’s channel (Loeppky’slife) started out as just documenting our days for our kids to watch in the future. 250k subs later you REALLY feel the pressure. We just spend a whole week filming a Christmas crafting video, and on top of that doing it with our two kids. So much work and time went into it and the views were terrible compared to the other videos. It’s so hard not to watch the views... but trying to remember why you do it. Also, KZbin messed something up recently in a new update and lots of people got their bell notifications taken off. She mentioned that in one of her videos and lots of people Said their bell was off. So something to maybe give a boost to your views is to make sure people’s bell notifications are on.... Love your channel, I know it’s hard, and I appreciate all work you are doing!

Preach! Consistency is so so important! 🙏 Learned that the hard way. I'd also say when starting out, you really really need to niche down as far as you can. My first popular video was a niche video on GH5 with viltrox speedbooster and Sigma 18-35 lens. So this niche was specific down to the camera, and lens +accessories combination. This made a lot of people find the video since there really wasn't many other people with this specific title. So as small creators, it helps to have super niche search terms

I think KZbin as a platform could do a lot to help creators not focus on numbers. There are an overwhelming number of metrics that KZbin pushes on creators and viewers alike. When you start to review and mine the data, it becomes a neverending task that often doesn't lead anywhere; all of that time expended looking at analytics could have been better used actually creating and uploading. Great discussion, Peter.
