If I could live my life over again, I'd still be watching the Smothers Brothers.

Never see the likes again. How lucky were we to be alive and tuned-in to the times through the last 60 years? All we saw growing up as guys like these stood up for a different way of sharing the world. I think about the wonders that I've lived through and how changed the world at large is since jug-bands switched to psychedelia, when Dylan went electric, how "I want to Hold Your Hand" became "Come Together". I've even seen a clip where Tommy Smothers played an electric. Thank you Dickie, and even if "Mom always liked you best", Tommy and you are loved by millions of who still remember The Smothers. Brothers.

Dickie was the straight man. Tommy was the comedy. And what wonderful great comedy it was. Tommy we won’t see you no more now in this world but we’ll see you in next. And don’t be late.

I remember the show being cut off by the network. Mom's first thought was just that something was wrong ... Dad's (he didn't say then but told me years later) wondered if the nukes had started flying. That was the times.
@gregrichards1601 Жыл бұрын
Yes, that was the times. Drills practicing crawling under your desk "in the event of"... Lying awake at night wondering if this was the night and what I was going to do. The world stopping for JFK's assassination then again for the moon shot and Armstrong taking that one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. Don't think the world has stopped since then.

I am well aware Steve Martin was a writer for the Smothers Brothers, but does anyone know if he was the banjo player backing them up on their musical segments when needed?
@MrsRosencranz19 ай бұрын
No. He wasn't hired as a musician. John Hartford probably did it. Or Glen. At one time there were 4 banjo players on staff.
