“I wish you to know that you have been the last dream of my soul.” Sydney Carton from Tale of Two Cities Carton’s character has always made me feel some sort of sympathy toward him and I have to pause and think every time he appears in the novel. He also makes me feel very sad for him. It’s as if he has been waiting his whole life for something or someone to give him a reason why he exists. He wanted a reason that would make sense in that chaotic world. His soul has never felt content unless Lucie came into his life. Although it was unrequited love, his feelings for her were so pure and strong that he was willing to give his body to save her husband. Because of Lucie, Carton’s soul was able to find peace. Love is really a magical thing that I cannot understand or explain using words.

I have yet to read it but ill go on a guess here: Does Carton have way through accept that its unrequited love and knows they wont ever be with Lucie - but just by being there/her being in their life it brought them some peace in the end?

@@XonixDerps I hope you will get to read the novel someday! I’ll try to answer your question. It’s very clear in the novel that Carton knew from the beginning that Lucie will never love him the way he loved her, yet he continued loving her and even stayed in contact after she got married. His feelings were pure and genuine. Hadn’t Carton wasted his youthful years, he might have ended up with Lucie. I must also point out that Carton had always thought of himself as a useless human being, therefore, Lucie’s rejection was not a surprising event for him.

I used to dream about this castle in the thumbnail before and I have never forgotten about it. It seems so real and makes me cry so hard when I remember it. Sometimes I feel scared but sometimes I feel I belong to it.

It’s a real place. It’s called Kylemore Abbey in Co Galway Ireland about an hour west of Galway the city. I’ve been to Galway but we didn’t have time to visit the Abbey. You usually have to take a days trip on a bus. My husband wasn’t up for driving through Connemara after the drive thru Killarney National Park. Parts of it were scary. You should go!

@@lunarikariko981 I went there a few years ago and it was as dreamy and scary as the thumbnail suggests. It used to be a private mansion, the owner built it out of love for his wife who died shortly after it was finished. You can see her mausoleum and a chapel just next to the main house and it's as sad as it is beautiful... He also incorporated a wonderful glass house, a botanical garden and crops all around the estate in a very modern way for that time. An overwhelming token of love and sadness. Kylemore Abbey was then turned to a catholic boarding school for girls, ruled by nuns, for some time until it shut down. They do have some pretty nice marmelade for sale at the gift shop though... ! I understand why your husband didn't want to drive through Connemara, this place is spooky and peculiar, an out of this world place.

You know I remember this girl, I saw her last on a Saturday afternoon, it was four days ago, we were having fun with some friends in a bar and talking 'cause we had finished our French's first level course, and I wanted to be so close to her; she was so smart, fitness, gorgeous, cultured, shy, quiet, kind, stylish and well-educated, in spite of that, she was a risk-taker, exhausted but with an immaculate love for knowledge and self-improvement, besides she was always wearing a pair of heels, an elegant large coat or a dress and trousers or jeans, she was only 17 and with a long life to live; she is usually busy, so it isn't common to see her on the street or with friends, 'cause she also goes to the gym from 5-6 days per week. She was so uncanny and interesting to me, didn't seem to be real, every moment close to her felt surreal and chimerical, like a priceless treasure, an unprecedent discovery or an one-chance opportunity, I cannot explain how attracted I felt to her, I'm pretty sure I admire her. I've been single for like 4 years so far and there had not been a woman who has been able to catch my attention like her 'till I got to know her. She was one of the best in the class and I loved when I had the possibility to look at her welcoming and charming smile, those astonishing bright brown eyes and her long "night" hair, but more than that, I felt attracted to her for how prepared, passionate and apparently touchy she was. She loves history and knows a bunch of artists, philosophers and important characters in human history, she didn't learn how to play the piano 'cause seemed too easy for her, so she decided to learn how to play the violin, also she knows martial arts; she likes Gymnopédie No. 1 (which is my favorite piano song) but loves Vivaldi's work, that's why she loves Baroque. She's not like the rest, ignoring everything and going to parties just to waste their lives, just like I used to do some years ago 'till I gain some self-awareness. The point is I felt that attraction at first sight, when she was participating for the first time in class, she looked so smart and pretty doing it, speaking with that smooth peaceful voice, but I didn't allow myself to get too close to her, due to I am 21 and she is 17, she seems to be thousands of steps ahead from me and from so many in spite of her age; also, I'm dealing with anxiety and a bunch of insecurities, so I'm doing my best to stay single, fortunately I'm a man, so my best to stay single is do nothing when I see a girl who I like. So everything came to an end and I gave her that last hug that felt so warm, heart-breaking and sweet, I still think about her 'cause I'm not gonna see her again for who knows how much, I'm gonna be studying French still, but in another schedule, so she'll be lost from my view. As a matter of fact, it's noticeable she doesn't have time or energy for a relationship either, and I didn't get her phone number, so I don't have a way to know more about her or communicate, I wouldn't expect to chat a lot with her if that was the case tho, both are too busy trying to thrive as much as possible. Anyways, listening to this type of playlist: dark academia, classic, ambient makes me think of her and I feel like crying sometimes, it's a feeling of nostalgia and loneliness that intensifies more and more as the time goes by, finally I could meet people who get me and don't leave me talking alone or smth, including this sweetheart but all of they are gone now. So I just wanted to thank you for this astonishing playlist, Hexen, I loved it so much, evoked some strong emotions and made me think of Maria, a girl who I'll trully never forget 'till I die; keep it up Maria, I'm pretty sure you're gonna make it and be even better than you are rn, I hope that you get a well-prepared and valuable man who can make you happy, take care of you and feel loved, and I wish you a passionate life full of happiness, and wonderful and fresh new experiences that fulfill your heart, mind and soul, the ones I'm pretty sure I fell madly in love with. Well, I didn't get to know her that deeply but the main fragments I've gotten to see from her allured all my senses and made me admire her a lot, so I agree with your thoughts, she's definitely someone hard to find, at least from where I live. I hope you continue being so productive, cultured and a great person! Those are values not everyone can acknowledge, but for some of us, they are so powerful, inestimable, and you are powerful, full of so many abilities, experiences and knowledge, someone different and interesting, someone who can truly make a change and leave a mark in this mad society. It’s a photograph of Mainistir na Coille Móire meaning “abbey of the big forest”, anglicised to “Kylemore Abbey”, in County Galway, Ireland. It became an abbey in 1920, as Ireland was regaining independence, formerly the home of English colonials (but designed and built by a Irish hands of course). Still owned by the Benedictine nuns, but now that Ireland has thankfully let go of the religiously fundamentalist PTSD that sadly often accompanies an oppressed people, it is open to the public and forms part of a collegiate exchange, with facilities for the study of biodiversity.
