My grandma had a 97 Malibu that she bought brand new, intake gaskets allowed coolant to contaminate the oil and killed the engine at only 69K miles, although it was 12 years old by then. I remember it always ticked and just sounded junky for the first few seconds after a cold start too. I swapped a junkyard 3100 motor in it and got rid of it for her pronto. I was texting Mike while watching this. I deal with these type of drivers every day, in a semi Randy. People now a days just have no common sense or courtesy. I do what you do but, people cut me off and never want to let me in and, sadly, a lot of my fellow truckers do this to me as well. Love the Lumina. Has a lot of life left and with a good sanding, clear coat and cleaning, she would be a beautiful ride.
@EliteNK2 жыл бұрын
You aren't lying, I was driving with my father yesterday, and we had 3 people cut us off in town, pulling out into traffic, 1 person pulling out onto a 75+ highway going 10mph, a semi-truck pulling out into oncoming traffic to get out in front of his disconnected trailed on the side of the road. We had a trailer filled with stuff to build a fence, and the lane closed; 3 tiny cars in the left lane wouldn't let us and sped up, so we couldn't merge in, so my dad had to shit and get to merge. All within 3 hours. People need to pay attention and take driving seriously; people get too complicated and dangerous.

That lumina brings back memories, that was the same exact car my grandpa had, and he taught me to drive in it. On my 18th birthday, a woman was coming back from a funeral and rear ended me, the thing was totaled, however, we learned that it was a rusty one, the frame was totaled and most of it was left on the road I was hit on, literally a layer of rust flakes fell on the ground.

These were the standard taxicab in DFW from the mid 90s to the early 00s. I drove several of those 2001 to 2003 and then I owned a black '97 and a maroon '98 a few years later. These are tough to find in rust belt areas because of the obvious reason and tough to find down south because of the intake/head gasket issues, dex-cool, and derbies. It would be nice if we could have simple cars like this to buy new, but all we have are the old ones, so we can either keep them on the road or sell them to someone who will. Otherwise, they're gone.

The Luminas had a unique look, yet the 3.1 gave them loads of torque. I loved my 91 Ods Cutlass Supreme for that one reason (even though it ended up with frost plug issues). Many people really need to learn that we all share the road. Passing someone etc just to save at best a minute is useless. I had someone pass me a while ago (doing an estimated 120kph). Further up ahead, I saw they got pulled over. On the note of the jeep with the church sticker on it, I will say this. I have never been a fan of such stickers or badges. All I ask is that people be nice drivers (no matter what they believe). After these past 2+ years, I was quickly reminded of how nasty & hard hearted many "believers" actually were. Rather than acting as they should, I got persecuted by those who were supposed to be: kind, caring, compassionate & understanding. What came out of it was a book of my experiences at least. For that I am grateful.

The Lumina was not a bad car if you wanted or needed a simple point A to point B that seated 4 or 5 (depending upon if it had a front bench seat and column shifter). Sadly it appears that build quality did the car in as they sold huge amounts of the 1995-2001 Lumina but you never see them on the road anymore (by contrast there are still a lot of 2001 Ford Taurus (the Lumina's primary sales competitor) on the road.). I have not seen one in the metal for years. Sadly this one might be too far gone for restoring or making it look better. However it should still be a good winter beater or a car you use when driving to a sketchy area so as to not damage your more expensive vehicle.
