I want to see you finish a rehab on the Honda Accord! Replace the back window, detail the interior and I think a good wash, clay bar and wax would really make a difference. New battery, whatever may need fixed engine wise, I think you could still sell that car in todays market for $2500 to $3000

I was waiting for this one. So awesome that it’s a run and drive. Just a back glass and oil change and I think in a bit she’ll be running like a top. And won’t be surprised if this outlives any of the cars in your garage. That thing is great. Can’t believe someone didn’t get the fuses checked. If I had a chance at this one over my newer cars I would pick the Honda any day. Good catch. And still praying for your uncle. Hope all is going well with those family issues.

When you order the back glass, be sure to order a pack of the Honda clips for that chrome trim piece. The OEM ones will be powdery and brittle by now. If you can't find them from Honda directly I believe Precision Auto Glass Parts makes aftermarkets. I was an auto glass tech for 5 years. With old Hondas, broken clips are a thing, but it saves those mouldings (hard to find undamaged). Otherwise congrats on a sick deal! I paid $900 for my 89 Prelude 2.0 Si manual and I'm learning how cool owning a Honda can be. I grew up with Nissans so it's a bit of a departure for me: my current daily is an 01 Xterra 2.4L manual I rescued from a towyard for $550. This is my kind of channel, keep us posted!

My father bought one new in 1984. I sold it in 94 a year after he passed. Well over 200,000 miles and it never ever missed a beat. Only thing I had to change after 10 years was the carburettor. I was easily getting 46 miles per gallon on the highway-( British gallons). Lovely stick shift and very nippy as it’s a light car so despite having less than 100 hp it could move.

Man, this really makes me miss my old 1986 Honda Prelude Si. It was an A20A with PGM-FI, the first year for fuel injection. I bought it off of the second owner, who bought it from Car N Driver magazine as it was their test car for 1986. I took it to a bodyshop and had it fully worked over for any rust and had it repainted the factory red and it was beautiful. I put some nice period correct wheels on it with some low profile tires and I also put a full Sony stereo system with Sony amps and Orion Cobalt subwoofers in it. The A20A isn't a very powerful engine, but I got my old Prelude up to 130 with it with a custom made cold air intake and a 2.5" exhaust that I had made for it with a Magnaflow muffler. It sounded decent, but it was extremely underpowered. I bought a H22A to swap into it, but this was back in 2000, and aftermarket support was nil back then for the 1986 model...

I had a white 1982 Honda Accord with 170,000 miles on it. Ran so good and the body and paint were almost perfect. It had blue interior which I never cared for but it was clean and no rips or fades. I lived in Payson Arizona and I decided to take the Honda up to Flagstaff with my sweetheart. I had a new Ford Explorer with the Eddie Bauer interior at the time. Very nice truck but I loved driving the Honda because it handled very well and it was a good looking car. It was the fall of 2000 and I needed some time away from the business I owned. So going up to Flagstaff I didn't have any problems. Ran like a new car. I bought this car for 500 dollars because it would not start. I got it home and flipped the fuse box cover and viola! It had a blown main fuse just like yours. I replaced it and it ran great for years. So the weekend of August we took the interstate up to Flagstaff and spent 2 day's up there. Sunday night we decided to take the scenic route back from Flagstaff to my home in Payson Arizona. We were on a two lane road when an Antelope jumped in front of us. I managed to swerve and miss this gigantic animal but hit the soft shoulder and the front wheels dug into the loose dirt and gravel. The back of the car flipped forward and fell right on to the roof. The sun roof was open and I sustained cuts and bruises on my head. I was bleeding pretty bad. If I had hit the animal at the speed I was going, my girlfriend or me or the both of us may have been crushed by the heavy body of the Antelope. Everything I had in the car was thrown all over the road. All my CD's were thrown miles apart. After the ambulance checked me out, I had the car towed to a filling station in Happy Jack Arizona about 5 miles from the accident site. What I am getting to is that except for a broken rear window and windshield, I was actually able to start the car and drive like nothing happened. The left front wheel was slightly bent and it shimmied but I got it up to 60 miles an hour. I didn't want to pay for towing so I drove it home the next day. The front windshield was shattered on the passenger side but I could see out of it. We both made it out alive and with very minimal injuries. My sweetheart was hanging upside down from the safety belts holding her. I had to release her and she fell down. That's pretty much what sealed our relationship. We have been together since the mid ninety's. I wanted to save the old Honda but the body was tweaked too much to be able to repair. Might as well pull the engine and drop it into another good Honda body. I sold it to a young guy that needed the engine and transmission. That was a great little car.

Totally destroyed the front end of the old girl who had less than 100k miles on her. When I got out of the hospital and went to the yard where she was parked, she started right on up, but the insurance company refused to repair it due to the age. Hopefully this Honda finds an owner who appreciates it as much as I did mine.

Oh man, Randy. This brought me back to when I had a 85 Honda Accord EX 2 door as my first car in 2003. It was a love-hate relationship, mostly hate. When I let it go, it was literally holding together with spit and bailing wire. It’s A/C never worked, so it was “fun” during the Summer. The fan vents were so screwed up it could not defog the windshield during the cold months. My stereo deck kept losing power every other day. There was so many electrical gremlins on it that I gave up trying to get it sorted. Then the equipped moonroof leaked like a shower head. I had to use silicone sealant to stop the leaks. My last straw was when the power steering suddenly quit working while driving a rainstorm and the CV joints started failing. That was when I decided not to put anymore money on this potential money pit and it was time to let it go at 131k miles. Intended to get a late 80’s Volvo wagon but ended up with a 93 Ford Taurus GL. However Randy, I hope your 85 does not end up like mine. Things to watch out for, check and replace the CV joint boots asap, even if they appear to be ok. I don’t think it was intended to last for 37 years. This has a timing belt engine, if memory serves me correctly, so get that replaced too. And since you will be in there, get the seals replaced too.

You scored on that accord! after a little tune up, replace the rear glass, and a clean up that will be a great car for someone. I would drive that little accord everywhere. They don’t make them like the used in those days

The alternator or its regulator has very likely failed, it looks like the charging voltage is way too high and is having spikes, and the battery/alternator light flickering is also telling its having problems. That light will never come on because a dead/bad battery on vehicles this old, it's purely an alternator warning light. If I saw correctly the Noco was showing over 16 volts when the headlights weren't on, and it might get even higher at higher RPMs. The engine dying when you turned off the headlights was probably caused by an extreme voltage spike, it could also be influencing with the engine electronics and causing the poor running generally. This might also have something to do with the dead radio and blown fuses..

Maybe change the fluids and replace valve cover gasket before the drive, but probably best thing to do to get the old gas out.

Randy, That alternator is more than likely what blew the fuse that's why the battery light is flashing. I would replace that alternator before I started trying to drive it.

I used to have an 84 that looked alot like this one. Since it hasn't run for years, replace all the fluids and give it a tune. Check the brakes and make sure it is safe and ready to go. The way it started up is a testament to Honda quality at the time. Oh. And you ought to look at that back window. In one of the shots it looked like it might have taken a rock chip or something....

I'd put a half of a can of SeaFoam in that 2 gallons of gas so that it's in there thick and drive it a few miles to get the SeaFoam through the injectors and then let it sit a day or two and then drive it again with some more fresh gas in it and run it hard a few times and I bet it straightens it running issues right out. I've used SeaFoam to do that many times and it works.
