+SoopaBee Can I suggest getting a 20 gal for the goldfish. It doesn't even have to be a glass tank you can get a plastic storage container at Wal-Mart for cheap. Also you won't have to get anymore replacements for a while. But be careful the single tailed varieties can get over a foot long and really needs a pond. 20 gals is really good for one fancy goldfish. The fancy goldfish are the ones that have the big eyes round bellies. Good luck with your fish~

thibookie Good suggestions! We ended up investing in a 10 gallon tank for now. Goldie 2.0 is still doing good...thank goodness. I have sure learned a lot about these fish...I'm changing out a third of the water every 1.5-2 weeks!

As an ex goldfish keeper, I hate that they are still given away as prizes. If you need any information, let me know. Be warned though, single tailed goldfish are fast and need a very large tank. I had four double tailed fish of varying types. They don't get as big but my largest grew to about ten inches. I had four fish in a 60 gallon tank, which was too small but I ran out of space so they had to go. I ran a 750 gallon per hour filter and a similar wave maker to recreate a river environment.

We gave my daughter that lesson at the age of two. We lost her two goldfish as well. The tank went through a weird flip and the nitrates went through the roof. So we had to flush the fish and that was it. But it should be a bit hard at the age of 4 because she can remember the lesson, Im sure mine doesn't even remember the fish at all. You got to set the tank up properly and monitor the levels of the water. Fish, even goldfish are no joke when it comes to taking care of.
@SoopaBee8 жыл бұрын
I am actually surprised at how much maintenance I have to do to keep this fish. Since our tank is a bit small, we have to change out a third of the water constantly. Hopefully will be getting a larger tank soon. And yeah man, my child remembers everything!

also. goldfish will grow to accommodate their environment. The larger the tank, the larger in size they will grow. they are also a carp. and in places like Japan the large beautiful ones are Koi and can sell for thousands even tens of thousands of dollars.

Man, the Arapaho County fair gave you a fish just for playing. I was a little upset that we "won" a fish. We had a similar thing happen, but we bought the "My Fun Fish Tank" (the one that you pour water into and it dumps out the back into a cup). In my defense, Nick is almost 8, and when he got the fish we told him it didn't look like it would live more than a couple days at most. When he died we showed him the official burial ceremony for fish (the Big Flush) and took him to get a Beta since they live through about anything based on what I've seen in the past. He's happy and kinda gets it I think
@SoopaBee8 жыл бұрын
Oh man, they suckered you into buying the tank too? LOL! Actually I'm the fool thinking, "I'm sure I've got a bowl somewhere." Little did I know how much I'd be investing in a fish. And had the fish died a few days later, I MIGHT have just told her the truth and held a similar ceremony. I just felt bad since we had JUST picked up the gravel and ornaments, etc. Sigh...we shall see how things turn out for Goldie 2.0. Fingers crossed!
@FRAGAFE8 жыл бұрын
nah, we had a little tank at home but it was a pain to clean, so we bought a new one for this fish. I've got like a 38 or 40 Gal tank in the garage that I don't use. I should either set it up again or sell it... one or the other
@AdventuresinRealLife8 жыл бұрын
20!?!?! What the? I mean, I know there's a lot of animals that don't age as you'd think, but damn... Hopefully you won't have to keep buying fish every couple of months. No clue what I would do, but it's hard for me to imagine.
@SoopaBee8 жыл бұрын
Yup! 20 years old! I'll believe when I see it.
@CaptainCrankyMotovlogger8 жыл бұрын
They do, and they grow to match their environment - you see ones people have "released back into the wild" in rivers and lakes and they're like HUGE!! - but not very attractive anymore... which is why you don't see old ones in tanks very often...
@forensicgirl7 жыл бұрын
They don't actually grow to their environment. If you keep them in a tank that is too small then their growth is stunted and they are often sickly.

+ITS YA BOY DAN Oh man. I wish that were true. I'm 99% sure that it was dead...unfortunately :-(
@zezekingyo23747 жыл бұрын
ITS YA BOY DAN Make sure to breed them when thay are almost 1 year old. males have breeding tubercles on both gill plates and pectoral fins. Females dont have white spots and have a round deep body. It's verg hard to know the male/female identification if u wanna look up the male and female difference in Google otlr on KZbin. Males and females can grow over 12 inches long and can live for over 20 years if treat with good care💝💝💝. Females suppose to always find food from the gravel like males. Raise the temp about 75 till 80 degrees farenheit. before u fo that, add 2 temperatures per day to your tank not a fish bowl. when the remperature reaches to that amount u will notice the males are chasing the females. the female gets pushed by males and starts laying eggs. but before they do that, DO NOT KEEP THE PARENTS TO THE EGGS BECAUSE THEY WILL EAT ALL THE EGGS AND SOON THEY WILL BE NO BABIES LEFT IN THE TANK! hcarefully handbreed the males and females. For a safer way to breed them, gently and carefully squeeze the male's semen 10 or 20 times into the water, then stir it up with your fingers for 20 seconds then after that gently do the same thing with the female goldfish and u can clearly see the eggs pouring out of the anal vent(anus). as u can see over 1000 eggs poured out from a female goldfish. seperate the parents from the breeding tank into their own original tank while the fries will hatch about 3 days later. feed the babies baby brine shrimps when they are 2 days old. ater 1 week feed them feizen adult brine shrimp. after 3 weeks to 5 weeks feed them DIY gel food or repashy green, or medium sized flakes or just adult brine shrimp cubes. Goldfish are omnivores. wbe they are 3 months old, feed them pellets, large flakes, brine shrimp cubes, gel food, or granule food. whem the are 6 months and over feed them pellets gell food and large fish flakes for your goldfish. each goldfish needs anoit 12 gallons per fish when they are 4 inches or 6 in long. pick out the best 5 or to goldfish patterns for u and the rest will be sell not to a petstore but for people as fishkeepers. to u, u can sell them over a dollor when they are young qnd 12 or 2p dollars whem they are 5 to7 inches long. Good luck for your fish😀😀😀😀

This fish really can turn into a whole hobby. If you want I can give you a wealth of information. also on my channel there is a Playlist section for videos I've posted that aren't motorcycle related where I've got a bunch of fish videos you may want t peruse. message me if you want advise. That fish could live for 14+ years
@SoopaBee8 жыл бұрын
What the hell? I had no clue. I'll check out that playlist. You are awesome! Thank you so much!
@NitrooJen8 жыл бұрын
+SoopaBee yupp they also have the potential to grow up to 12 inches long. I'm glad your tank has a filter at least but if you want this guy to be a good learning experience, teach her how to care for it. go online and research comet gold fish. Gold fish excrete a lot of waste and ammonia so if the water ever gets cloudy then you aren't changing the water enough. typically fair goldfish die like yours did because they are kept in very poor living conditions and they are already weak when you take them home.
@SoopaBee8 жыл бұрын
Well, the water is definitely looking a bit cloudy these days. I think I not only need to change the water more often, but I'm sure I need a bigger tank...Thanks for all of the advice sister!
@NitrooJen8 жыл бұрын
+SoopaBee Start him out in ten gallons, buy a filter that can process 20 or more gallons (it will say on the box) I recommend getting a canister filter since they are more efficient. feed a bit less. if he doesn't eat it all then it'll pollute the water. goldfish don't have an actual stomach just intestines so they produce a lot of waste. the smaller the tank the more water changes you'll need to do. you want to change it so much that the water never gets murky. cloudy water means you've got a lot of ammonia building up. buy a water conditioner too. the best one is called seachem prime. it's a red bottle. it is going to be a life saver. trust me. add some every time you do a water change.
@SoopaBee8 жыл бұрын
NotoriousBunny Hell yeah! You are amazing! Thank you thank you thank you! I am not going to lie, I'm shocked that I have to have such big tank...but the reasoning totally makes sense. Looks like this little $0.30 fish is gonna need more investment. Thanks again! No, no, no, Notorious!
