I won a Zenith shutterdial that didn't work but it does now

I must say I really really like the style of that 1938 shutter dial radio. I saw the auction videos you posted when you won that video that is a very good price as we both know. The RCA Bakelite record player is a model number 45EY3. I have several of those plus other 45 players in my basement scattered around. The only shutter dial Zenith radio that I have that is a floor model I believe goes back to 1940 and it has the old unused FM band on it it is all original and untouched and obviously I do not dare plug it in if I knew the model number offhand I would post it here

Funny thing is if I knew then what I didn't, I would not have had to pull out the chassis to see what had happened..... Even a blind squirrel eventually finds a nut sometime!

Nice radio. Glad it does work. I would also be of the thought that the original switch might be repaired. Looks like a good auction on Sat. Spotted a Zenith 6-S-27 that would look real good along with my brown H500. Hope you find some goodies!

That's an interesting solution to the switch problem but glad it was something simple as the restorer just moved it over to the volume pot . I figured it was the power switch portion of the local / distant switch, as that's usually what goes bad. I've done that same mod on 1941-42 Philco's that use the push-button for off on that usually always goes bad. I'll just install a new volume pot with a switch and move the wires down from the faulty push buttons. Problem solved!

I've seen that Philco problem on more than one occasion. I wiil say the previous owner did a good job on the addition of the On/Off switch to the volume control. One of the members of the NEVEC (New England Vintage Electronics Club) raised my awareness of this after I had mentioned it on a "Zoom" meeting prior to it's start. I just needed some time to pull the chassis to see what's up. I do have a spare shutterdial chassis but it's complete, and I don't think I want to use it for parts (yet).

Thanks for the wishes! Didn't go due to Mrs. RW was sick, amd I wanted to keep an eye on her. I spoke to Col. John after the auction on the phone, and it went well albeit the heavy rain that came Saturday morning.

Interesting fix by the restorer. But I can’t help but wonder: could the original switch could be taken apart and cleaned to restore functionality? Either way, it’s a gorgeous radio!

I'd be curious but I've got too much on my plate right now. Maybe down the road a bit............
