Hi Kimberly. I’m still living in Japan, but am hoping to move to northern Canada 🇨🇦 in 2023 sometime. I’m moving to a subarctic climate, so also will need a good wood stove. I am considering the exact same stove as yours. Just concerned it may be a little small. My house will be a small cabin about 650~750 square feet. I know this stove is rated for up to 800 sf. What size is your house? Is this stove big enough for you?
@ChasingKimberly
@ChasingKimberly Жыл бұрын
i think in that cabin size, i would consider a bigger stove. 😉
@ShikokuFoodForest
@ShikokuFoodForest Жыл бұрын
@@ChasingKimberly I just discovered Jotul stoves are rated differently depending on climate. The Jotul 602 is rated for 800 square feet ONLY if you live somewhere like Florida. In northern Canada 🇨🇦, it is only rated for 400 square feet. I’ll be moving where it reaches -30C in winter, so think I better get a larger stove. Jotul makes a good stove. But, the 602 is probably too small for me.
@mattlord2906
@mattlord2906 3 жыл бұрын
Your house is not small. I have friends from the Philippines. They never want to go camping. The reason one of them gave was that they grew up on a dirt floor so why would anyone want to go camping. I was like good reason

Nice, you should teach some new words in every video. What do you think about living in Slovakia? I think in the Philippines is better (if you have money). So many fresh fruits and vegetables, nice people, country. I know about problems with poverty and government but generally, I think there is better.
@ChasingKimberly
@ChasingKimberly 3 жыл бұрын
I like Philippines but not the capital city. I love to live somewhere near the beach, it would be dream come true. But its only possible if we have a lot of money. In the countryside, mostly no jobs so it will be difficult to live unless you are rich 😂 Im happy in Slovakia, even without the beach the country is still beautiful 😍

It's nice decoration, but as someone who studied heating systems, I don't get that interest of people in those old stoves, people think it's perfect and romantic, but there are reasons why it's not used anymore. You can't really regulate that comfortably, you have to constantly care about wood and heat comfort is very bad because it creates very hot zone around stove, but there can be cold in other corner of room. For good heat comfort you have to heating constantly to make walls warm and not let it get cold again, people don't understand that central heating system is actually cheaper because it's heating constantly and it doesn't let your walls get cold. But yes, boiler and heating system is very expensive thing so for some time, this is ok. You can have boiler which eats wood too and modern underpressure boiler is much more effective than just burn it in open fire. :-D I remember days with my grandparents using such heating in our cottage, I really hated sleeping near to that, I can't sleep in such hot air. :-D Also it's dangerous because not technicaly educated people mostly don't know what is carbon monoxide and don't know it can kill you while you sleep if fire doesn't have enough fresh air to burn. It should gave pipe with air into it or you should have holes under doors or not so sealed windows.

Yes everything you have written is in basiccally true, but on other hand it is so nice to sit close to the stove. I myself have this one and from time to time i enjoy to the pleasant atmosphere by the fire. It is like go back to our roots.🔥

Ondrej, you're such a wet blanket, aren't you? What about creating a romantic atmosphere? Good life isn't only about being guided by a technical data. Experiencing pleasant feelings are important to us, humans, too....thought you might not noticed yet.

How did you get away with so little clearance between the stove and the wall? Must be a non-combustible wall like cinder block? I was really surprised when I installed a 602 in my wife’s outbuilding office this summer how much clearance it required compared to the huge Quadrafire stove we installed last year in the house.
@ShikokuFoodForest
@ShikokuFoodForest Жыл бұрын
You are right. Looks like they almost have no clearance. These don’t require a lot of clearance, but at least 12” or 32cm, I believe.
