I won’t lie - my heart broke a little at the end there. He really didn’t want us to leave 💔

*Quick note for those who may have missed a video; Rudniks old boarding spot closed down so he and all his buddies had to be moved to new boarding locations separate from each other.
Rudnik is settling in to his new boarding home just fine. When we arrived I saw that he was up on the hill grazing beside one of the other horses which made me happy. It was the same horse he seemed to immediately buddy up with the day he arrived (he was smart and befriended the biggest boy in the herd 😂)
But when we went to leave I could see how out of place he was feeling in the herd. He was quite hesitant to approach and just nickered to them from a distance - his way of telling them ‘I just want to be friends’
These pregnancy hormones have me a total emotional mess because as we were leaving I looked back and saw that he was still standing at the gate, watching us leave and I immediately butst into tears 💔
I’m definitely having a harder time adjusting than he is 🥲
But he’ll be fine after a few days. There’s always an adjustment period when a new one joins the herd and I know he’s already making a new buddy in the big boy so I’m happy about that!

I've been very lucky I've only had to board for short periods in my lifetime. It's been 50 years now that we've had the horses on our own property, and once our 31 yr. old Overo Paint mare is gone, that will be it! 😢 Too many graves to count all the pets buried here, and at my age I just can't do it any longer. It will be a sad day for sure when Sparky is gone and I no longer need to go down to the barn. 🥹 Hoping you guys find a wonderful place to live out your lives together! ❤

Aww thank you. It’s so sad to think about how many beloved pets we lose over the years. I’m really hopeful to have our own place someday - I never had to board my horses growing up, they were always right outside my door so it’s really been hard having to get used to not seeing my boy everyday 😢

AND horses can sense / smell that you are pregnant. Your boy was probably picking up on that and wanted to go to his friends but wanted to stay w you too! It WILL get better / easier! All three of you are doing great with this big change. The love and trust between you guys is heartwarming. It sounds corny, but change is an opportunity for growth; he's coming when you call now. 😀Hang in there, I know it must be hard driving away feeling like that; but once routines are created that should help a lot. Until then, it's so hard to leave him in Boarding, especially when it's even further away, and when you're expecting no less. It must be depressing for all of you. Looking spiffy with the bling sparkling in the sun on that halter. I am currently removing the bling I associate with my last horse Dakota, and customizing my "parade" gear for Catfish. He has settled in nicely and we have been enjoying his discovery of all the routes I have been riding since 1986. He is such an amazing horse, and I thank God daily for having such an amazing equine vet who knew I needed another horse more than I did, and led me to him. It turns out Catfish really is the perfect name for him. We have been going to the river on the really hot days, and he loves it. There are many sandbars, and shallow pools that he just lays down in, and more often than not, rolls in. Soon it will be watching the changing of the leaves, and then hopefully my favorite ride of the year when/if it happens, a ride in the snow on a full moon night. There is something magical in all the blue and silver tones of the landscape, and the snow sparkles just as much in the moonlight as it does in the sun. Like I said, magic.

I think he's a little shocked by it all. He went from Luscious green grass to wild grassland, and a new herd- where He is the low horse in the pecking order. It will take time. New place, new circumstances to get used to. A familiar face, he needed some extra TLC!.... He can do it!..(though right now- he's like, "Get me outta here!.... let's go!")....he'll make friends, and then he'll not want to come so easily. Horse sense!

Rudnik is a gorgeous horse. Laminitis is no fun so you have done the exact right thing. The grass doesn’t have as much sugar here and he has room to move and exercise. He will join up with the herd that will just take some time. Don’t second guess your decision you made the right choice for Rudnik.

I had a Roan when I was a teen. She was beautiful and Big. I guess any horse would be big to a little teen girl. But she was awesome and loved to run with me. I’m going to watch all the videos so far of him at his new place. I know it’s hard to leave him. This is why I’m a dog mom I guess. I’d have horses living in my house with me. Yes they are! Just to avoid any behaviours she has the mares and geldings in separate pastures but they are beside each other so they can still say hello. But at least it avoids any fights with boys becoming possessive/protective over the girls
