@@shirleyjenkins11 this is true. I have been pulled at Heathrow for special screening as well, from the waiting area at the gate, alongside with a few other people. They took our passports away, which was the scariest thing to me. And led us into a secluded waiting room, where we were left for quite some time. Once they returned, they separated us, we had to unpack our whole hand luggage, got swiped for drugs or explosives I guess and got questioned petty firmly. We also got patted down again. It was extremely uncomfortable because the TSA or security doing this were extremely rude and were treating us like we did something wrong. Everybody was very cooperative, but that didn’t change the behavior of the people in charge. This all took a very long time and we almost missed our flights. By the time they returned our passports and escorted us onto the plane, everybody on board was already seated and gave us the stink eye, because we had delayed the plane. I suffer from strong anxiety anyway, but traveling always takes me to my limits. My husband and I live in the US and my family lives in Europe, so I have to travel in order to see them.
