My husband and I purchased a home on one acre in 2022 and we are 62 yrs old. My husband has a good job, I am retired. I told my husband 4 or 5 yrs ago that we needed to have a purpose in our golden years. WE have some animals, I have a small garden, we have planted many more fruit trees. It is a lot of work daily, but I have never been healthier. I'm always working, I haul 40-50 bags of feed on my shoulder. I have more energy than my husband, most likely because he work an 8hr job. I'm in the sun, and haven't been sick in a very long time. God has blessed us with a grand baby and she loves animals, and eats so many fruits & veggies from our land. We have many family gatherings here and this property has brought our family so much closer. God is GREAT!

Thank you for sharing y’all’s story. I’ve considered giving up this way of life as I’ve endured replacements, and other health challenges and just turned 70. Your talk inspires me today to get on out there and mulch another fruit tree, and take it up with the Lord. Thank s for the encouragement to keep on. The impossible is possible with the Lord!

I work everyday on a farm for a little girl who's in her twenties trying to get off grid. So everyday I'm helping her with her farm and at night I I study herbalism. I lived with them their last 7 years taking care of them and adding fruit trees and raised beds. We strugle to come up with the 20,000 property taxes but my husband and 4 sons(and their families) all live on this land and working it to take care of us all. Danny, you have no idea how this video touched me. I have been disabled since 2013 and ever since then I have “acquired” other health issues. I truly believe it’s because I got to the point where I just gave up. My husband is always saying all he wants is to get his wife back. Yesterday with this horrible heat we’ve been having I pushed myself to make the bed and cook supper so he didn’t have to do it when he got home like he usually does. He turned 65 Sunday and he works outside and I decided I just needed to push myself to help him. It hurt like hell and I had to take mini breaks but I did it and felt good about myself that I did. Oh how I wish I could just sit and talk to you and Wanda but I know that will never happen. So in the meantime I will continue learning from y’all thru KZbin and plug right along. God bless y’all from the bottom of my heart ❤️

Danny I had to back up the video and make sure I heard you right. I literally laughed out loud when you said some people think y’all are spoiled. If anybody watches 1/10 of y’all’s videos they will see that is not the case. And if they think that the pieces y’all show are really all there is to it, then bless their idiot hearts. Anybody growing a tiny back yard garden can attest to the amount of work that goes into making it grow . If they can watch all y’all do and listen to your teachings on it and still think y’all are spoiled, they aren’t worth wasting your energy on. Seeing all the things y’all have created and learning how you did it from start to finish has been an amazing blessing to so many people. Y’all taking the time to do videos /tutorials, and the livestreams to answer questions to help others learn to be more self sufficient is not the behavior of spoiled people. I’m sorry y’all have to deal with these people. But y’all need to know, the sound of mind , reasonable , God fearing people who watch your channel thank God for you and Wanda and your heart for people. Never let those people have a second of your limited time. Everybody else knows the truth.

Hello, I think this is the most important video I have ever seen. I will be 70 this year. It is just me now and I do struggle from time to time with "should I give up or should I keep going?" I guess I don't have a choice but to keep going. I am finding that I feel better now than I have in several years. I garden, can, and do as much by myself as is possible. I had never done these things in my life. Asking for help from time to time is hard for me. However, I had some yard work I couldn't handle and asked a friend of mine if her son (out of work and depressed), would be able to help me. He said yes, I paid him, they left. My friend said it was such a blessing to him to actually do some work knowing it was helpful AND to get paid for it. Well, I have enough work lined up now, that I just can't do, to keep him busy for a while. We both win.

Man, you are darn right. I’m 40, but I remember summer being different. The sun and colors and the sky was different. I feel it. With the kids, I’ve been reading and teaching them Solar cycles Sasha Dobler :), and lots of scripture. We spend much of our days outside, acclimating to heat now then acclimating to cold in winter. It helps the body when you acclimate slowly. However, the changes from mild to extreme are fast, not allowing much acclimation. God Bless you all. I’ve got to go take the animals out to walk/run, then water things, move everyone to shade, go for an early run. It’s almost sunrise. Time to get cooking! You are never too old for jack diddly. Many thanks for the encouragement. I retired just before turning 62, built two small raised beds (one for strawberries & one for veg) to add to my three apple trees, and bought some berry bushes...then I added to the garden each year, bought some more berry bushes & propagated some. Now I'm looking at buying two properties, one about 1/4 acre with a house and the other about 2/10 of an acre of raw land about 1/4 mile from the first. By the time the deal is done I'll likely be 66, and just beginning the planting of fruit & nut trees, berry bushes, herbs, a new veg garden, areas for the pollinators...it's a lot for one person to take on (it'll be done by hand, my biggest 'power equipment' is a self-propelled mower), and I'm pretty sure I'm going to be achy & exhausted along the way, but the possibilities draw me. I can have a well instead of municipal water...and while the tiny town I'll be moving to (Lord willing, the deal's not done yet) doesn't allow any livestock, it also won't violate city ordinance to have compost bins or a dirt pile, and the neighbors won't get on my case if the grass gets more than 5" tall. The area is near enough to family that, if absolutely necessary, I can call on them (they have their own lives so I don't want to rely on them too much)...and properties cost less (other costs are about the same & some are slightly higher) so I'm hoping to have funds to put in at least a small solar system for fridge & freezer and the pump. It's hard, because on the one hand I get excited and want to charge forward...but on the other hand I know it'll be a while before I take possession, and if I want to follow permaculture principles I then have to wait a year (sorry, but the veg garden isn't going to wait that long, I want my fresh food). Thanks again, and may the Good Lord continue to bless you abundantly.

Danny and Wanda I so appreciate what you both have done and are doing in creating your Homestead. Your story is very similar to me and my husband who transitioned in late 2021. I now handle and manage our 3 acre homestead on my own with occasional help from my nephews. My husband was in business for years as myself. And he was a teacher and preacher of the word of God and I led a women's ministry. We've had hard times, good times and God continues to bless me so I can continue to be a blessing to my family and neighbors. Keep doing what you're doing. You dont owe anyone an explanation because of their ignorance....God has , is and will continue to bless you both 🙏🏾🙏🏾 as long as we seek Him in all things.

Still working on getting it set up but am looking forward to the results. I have increased my gardening efforts every year and have no intentions of slowing down until the Lord takes me home! I too suffer from bad knees, achy joints, vertigo sometimes, horrible allergies, but every day I do what God allows me to do & gives me the strength to accomplish. Be careful in the heat everyone & God Bless.

I'm in Wisconsin and it is so hot here too. We have the lake that keeps us in high humidity. Not the place where us old people should be out in. -- I'm 73 and in the last 2 years I have been in hosp. for 3 months and almost died. 2 best friends died, and my husband committed suicide. I'm still healing but have a nice garden for myself, my daughter and her husband. I have a nice place to live by way of them. So grateful that the Lord has let me be here and take care of myself and maybe help them a little too. Love you and Wanda. Thank you

I appreciate your content, especially the trial & error of trying to garden to fit your age at Pecan Grove. We have to adapt. I'm 58 and help my parents, in their 80's, on their homestead. I am self employed and God blesses me to get it all done. I don't ask nobody but God when things are needed. I needed to increase our fencing and God used a neighbor to bless me with 15 new cattle panels. Be a blessing how ever you can. It is not wise to compare yourself to others, nor to look back, nor to short change God's ability to provide. I have a good Father and glad to be in "the family".

It's nobody's business what you decide to do with your property. It was bought and paid for by you and Wanda. Until they pay your bills, they don't have any say about how you do things. I think we should all appreciate that you share and teach as much as you do. Seeing what y'all have been able to accomplish has certainly been encouraging to me. I'm older than you guys, and seeing how you go about making gardening easier for older folks is the reason I am still able to garden. Thanks for being willing to put in the time and effort to share your knowledge, not only about gardening and providing for ourselves. But also, trying to inform us about what is coming upon us. And more quickly than a lot of people realize. You're a source that we can trust.

Can't help saying it - I love you guys. I'm so glad to have met you and been influenced by your drive and hard work. Being in the same age group, you constantly remind me, "It CAN be done!". I guarantee any critics aren't doing anything at all. Mom read that one comment to me when I was at her house. A lot of people just don't get that you are showing others what YOU are doing. I can't afford a high tunnel like yours, but I could afford a frame, and a roll of the cloth cover from separate sites, so that's what I did. I can't afford Vego beds, but I can buy protein tubs from local cattle ranchers. I can't afford a Harvest Right, but I can afford a Nesco dehydrator and canned goods. If people aren't full of excuses, they're full of blame. Have a great day - I'm headed out in the 90° temps to get to work!

Folks are on a tough path these days, and sometimes get tangled up pulling their brothers and sisters down- like a crab in a hot pot. It really doesn't help them a whit- but there's a lesson for them to learn. I've had that lesson too at times. I'll be 70 next year and run (or limp lol) a 17 acre homestead on my own and folks put me down cause my shoes are dirty, or my car's not perfect (and I live in the Ozarks!) Well guess what. I like it that way. I love my life and I can't believe Christ has blessed me so! We got this Sister Wanda, Brother Dan. We're standing strong in God's light. Let's do this-- and yes, even for the finger pointers.

Your title is what I say constantly. I get told all the time by my elders (Grandma & mom) "You need to stop and cut it out with all that gardening it's too hard on you, your doing too much" All that does is make me try harder. I've got a bunch of physical disabilities at 42 however if I don't move it just hurts more so no I won't quit!

Yeah. I'm 45 and garden and can, etc. My family, my dad especially, don't understand. He asks, "What are you going to do with all that food? Are you really going to eat all those carrots/whatever?" It's odd that it seems that the lessons of things like gardening, canning, storing/preparing for the future, etc. seemed to skip many in their generation. Many in our generation are relearning a lot of these skills on our own.

I’m trying to do things that will help us age in place and feed ourselves. I watched my mom decide she was “too old” to do anything, she sat in her chair in front of the television. Within a couple years, she’s in a nursing home with dementia and bad health. I really don’t want to follow that path. Building a hoop house, planting more fruit trees and grapes, have 60 elderberry bushes blooming. My son built me new, heavier pantry shelves. Don’t let the naysayers get to you. Some people just can’t stand seeing anyone succeed. God bless!

Mr Danny I am still here watchin you and Mrs Wanda, I no longer comment but I just feel the need to tell you thank you. Because of you our garden is flourishing we invested in shade cloth for the whole thing, we got rough cut lumber from the amish and built a permanent structure around it so that we can keep the shade cloth up, we pull it back when it isnt needed and stretch it out when it is. If the Lord provides some day it may just turn into a high tunnel due to that structure only the Lord knows. Also because of you we are growing various crops for cold and heat, we also picked long and short grow time varieties for both so if the weather should change rapidly we have an option. We invested in greenhouse plastic, frost cloth and bug cloth to make row covers for our garden. I am begining to focus on a more permanet grow style in the garden instead of starting from scratch every year, if its layed out the same year after year we just rotate then I can make my row covers of various materials and just move them where we need them. The Lord showed me this home isnt our permanent but I am doing what I can to help the next person out. They may tear it all down but the Lord may just have us preparing this for them.
