I bought a 95 model used with high mileage and drove it for seven years all over Texas. I replaced the tires, battery, alternator, shocks and a starter during the years I owned it. It was a great car and it rode like I was sitting at home on the sofa. Your car deserves a second life.

I think it’s the alternator, it’s strong enough to idle but as soon as you need more power it cannot power the fuel pump and EFI. When the power’s low it can cause your electronics to go ape sh!t. It’s a cool car

I was thinking the exact same thing, with the fact that the gas is also bad, gumming up the fuel system increasing resistance and lowering volt amps going into battery and alternator. Notice how the money light came on and off and then stayed on the second he started coasting. I guarantee once the varnish blew out the engine it was just enough to keep the car running.

Fix the issues related to drivability, then decide to do anything more beyond the mirror externally. Put some miles on the car as your runaround for the next 90 days. If you must sell, don't mess with Copart as you could sell it as is for what you feel would be a good deal to the next owner. Put a sign on it saying fist $$$$ cash gets it with your number. Get a fuel pressure gauge hooked up to the rail and see if the pressure drops when you hit the brakes or turn sharp. If it does then you might have to replace the Gas Tank since those Cadillacs from this era had plastic baffling in the tank that was prone to deterioration from the premium gasoline. I had almost the same issue with my ‘92 DeVille. But other than that they’re amazing cars. The Service Engine Soon light could also be the power steering pressure switch.

I worked in the GM Lake Orion assembly plant where that DeVille was built in the early 90s. Pretty sure I was working there when that one was built, but I was in IT there, so I would not have had my hands on that one, but it’s possible I saw it going down the line for a few seconds! The other suggestions sound reasonable. Check for obvious vacuum leaks like you said but also clean up the battery and ground terminals and check for extra electrical resistance in the power and ground leads. Could be alternator or regulator of course, but cleaning connections would be a cheaper way to begin on that front.

Wow, you got a good deal; I paid $220 for mine, a coupe even! 🤣 I later sold it at a significant profit even though it didn't want to start at that time (turned out to be a simple issue with the door lock button sticking which controls the alarm). But when I bought it, it also didn't run (only bad starter) and I live in an area where such vehicles aren't appreciated. The 4.9 is fantastic; I can say from first hand experience that will probably be the most reliable car on your lot. The most likely problem you'll experience is with the VATS security system/chip in key, and with some research that can be easily rectified. Drove mine through a good part of the US! The instant fuel economy allowed me to drive in a way in which I could average a fuel economy of 20 miles to the gallon on the road even in the mountains, usually driving around 65-70 and got passed a lot; but the alternative to keep up with traffic was to get much poorer fuel economy. I probably would have got better fuel economy had I replaced the borderline seized brake calipers! Fix that paint and don't put cheap parts in it and that will be a fantastic and comfortable weekend cruiser. Make sure you only use 91 Premium fuel; might have been the problem along with being old fuel. Probably just needed to be driven.

You'll find the problem someone else could not.

Think we put about 200k on it, got pretty decent mileage too I think I got 25mpg unless in the city was like 12-14 Ya those lights on the rear headliner show if your taillights/turns are working. There’s also lights on the front fenders that show your headlights and turns
