That International crawler that you thought had a gas engine is actually a Diesel that starts on gasoline. In the gasoline position a valve opens to an auxiliary combustion chamber with spark plugs and its own intake passages to the carb. After warm up you flip a lever to close the auxiliary chamber and send diesel fuel to the injectors. Quite an ingenious system and very dependable (at least the three that Dad had on the farm).

An interesting FYI on the red Volvo with the hole in the sleeper floor, and a bunch of empty jugs. If it was a Canadian based truck, it's very common for the east Indians (Sikh's) to run with 3 or 4 drivers in a truck at the same time. They do it so the truck runs 24/7 and only stops for fuel. The hole in the sleeper floor is used for their bathroom and so are the jugs. They do it so they can go to the bathroom while the truck is moving... No, this isn't speculation, I was told this by two different ODOT inspectors several years ago. They both told me that when one of those trucks gets pulled in for an inspection, they don't do an inspection that is as thorough as they normally do because the underneath of the trucks are usually covered in poop and pee. Maybe it has changed now but back then they both told me that there wasn't anything they could do about it, and that's really messed up. They should be able to red tag the trucks because it's a bio-hazard, and they should have their CDL's suspended...

Volvo that uses coolant is sent to auction, that tracks. I drove one as part of a team and got it over 900k, and it would use coolant only if pulling hard. By pulling hard I am talking about Pendelton to Baker City, never slowing below 55 it would drink 3 gallons of coolant. It got fixed at the Boise shop but was drinking again by the time it got back to Pendelton. Pendelton fixed it but then the DPF started having issues. They are the best trucks for running team, but once they start using coolant that you can't find on the ground, just sell it!

I've always wanted that rear light option. I wonder if some of these owner-operators are dead, and somebody with no knowledge of trucking just sent their truck to auction without even cleaning the obvious crap out of it. This what you get with an institutional executor: They get paid the same if the stuff auctioned sells high or low.

Those deere grader circle platform cylinders are super easy to adjust/shim. The cap on the bottom is two bolts, and it just comes right off. All you need to do is remove shims until it's where you want it (granted the shims aren't already all gone...) and bolt her back up. The blade roll is a little different and depending on which bore the wear is in, you'll either need line boring, a new cylinder bushing/pin or just a new pin. Might be a decent purchase if you can get at least the cylinder shims fixed and take a decent chunk of play out of there.

If you decide to get a mini excavator, I recommend getting a 4000# or larger with the kubota 3 cyl diesel engine. I got a Vote VTW-18S with the enclosed cab and a hydraulic thumb. It is a great little excavator for under $12,000. With shipping, tax, and import fees, it was still under $17,000. Vote has lousy customer service, but the equipment is decent.
