Spending 3 hours back in the day, meant 3 hours of actual work. Today, 3 hours in the Gym means, waiting for the equipment you want to use, wondering around for your turn, surfing social media & texting. Then about 45 minutes of actual work. Nice to see another person working out in bare feet as I do at home. I still have a gym membership for the things I cannot do. Plus it has a pool.

Yeah it was something that I read about Steve that I started doing kettlebell swings as my first movement to get the body warmed up but that is one hell of a session Laurence even I’ve gone from whole body to legs push / legs pull alternating these workouts MINT
@Fitand50Formula
@Fitand50Formula Жыл бұрын
Craig, here were a lot of good things in Steve’s workout, but the length wasn’t one of them. That’s a good suggestion to split it into a push pull legs. That would shorten the individual sessions down, but I then I’d train 6 days a week.

Just a quick correction: Steve did Incline Curls for his Biceps only, but he did 9 sets, not 3. This I took from an interview with him (audio) where he said it himself. That being said, doing 9 sets a muscle group in a full body workout, 3x a week is a crazy workout schedule and in my opinion is overtraining for most naturals.
@mazesire
@mazesire 5 ай бұрын
I just need 20 minutes to 30 minutes for my entire training, I do just 3 exercises with only one per muscle group. Less Volume but crazy high intensity is the key for me.

I am doing my own full body workouts 3x week andcseeing size gains in only 2 weeks but I eat a lot of food, usually 4000 kcal a day. I also cannot do this much volume at 45 yrs old so I like 2 exercises per body part and only one on biceps and triceps. I rest 3 minutes between sets and use only 2 work sets per exercise and take those sets closer to failure. Supersets opposite muscles does save a lot of time in gym. Overhead press 2x6-10 Neutral Pullups 2x6-10 Incline Bench 2x6-10 Dumbbell Row 2x6-10 Squat: 2x5-8 Dumbbell Curls: 2x6-10 Stiff Leg Deadlift: 2x5-8 Tricep Pushdowns: 3x8-12 Rear Delt Rope Face pull: 3x10-15 Low Back Extension: 2x8-12 Incline Situps: 2x6-10

I've adjusted Steve Reeves full body workout. Instead of starting with deltoids, I start first with Chest, so I don't pre-huast my deltoids with shoulder presses. Next I do lats, then deltoids. Next biceps, then triceps. An off to legs. It's better to do it this way, so you don't fatigue your triceps by doing chest or before then. Or doing biceps after back. You give you muscles rest by changing body parts.
@Fitand50Formula
@Fitand50Formula Жыл бұрын
I typically do delts later in my programs for the same reason. Which is why I was surprised my bench numbers held up after doing shoulder first. I wouldn’t recommend doing delts first all the time, but I might start rotating them through to prioritize them for a month or two.

Agree that Steve Reeves was the most aesthetic BB of all time but his workout was probably not ideal. It worked great for him because he had mind-blowing genetics. Still an interesting concept.

Another thing Steve had going for him was this was his job so he could take 4 days off a week to rest and relax. This makes a big difference when it comes to recovery.
@seraphx26
@seraphx26 Жыл бұрын
@@fallinginthed33p What nonsense, Steve was one of the biggest recovery advocates of his time, he spent more time resting and eating than working, but he understood that on the days you work out you have to work out hard that means putting in the time and intensity. Today everyone wants a 15 minute solution, make it easier, make it quicker, make it hurt less, well that is the formula for mediocrity, now if you are too busy to commit to that level of training that's fine, not everyone needs to look like Steve Reeves, but it's like anything in life that you want to excel at, there is a time and effort commitment that cannot be avoided with short cuts or half measures.

Interesting. I have tried this for a few weeks in the past. Yes its hard work and you have to work up to it. Even then regular deloads are probably a good idea. When he trained at Grimek's gym, JG said he trained between 2-4 hours a day. So he obviously adjusted things daily. My source is mainly his other book 'Building the Classic Physique'. He usually dropped the weight for each of the sets, resting only as long as his partner took to do his set or 45s. He often states that you should not overdevelop the traps (or obliques) so a better substitution for delts might be Laterals then Press, then BOL. For his pulley rows he emphasised leaning forward throughout the movement. Most of the time Reeves said he did 8 sets of incline curls, not 3. But in my book, he has 3 exercises - BB curl, pulley curl, while lying on a bench In all his squats he always suggested putting 2-3 inch block under the heels. He started with back squats to parallel using 300lb. Then hacks followed by front squats. He cleaned the weight for these and rested the weight on his palms - so obviously not heavy. My suggestion is to start with one exercise per body part and have one light session per week. Work up to the full routine. Also I think doing it in the morning and having the rest of the day to calm down is better. Doing it in the evening would probably be too stressful to get a good night's sleep. My question is - what were your results like?

@@JamesWilliams-js4fo well i mean he most likely didn’t eat that much food I would genuinely be surprised if he did. But if you learn how to shop for groceries right, you can save a huge amount of money. Try going out every Sunday and spending a few hours getting everything for the week or month. Go to different stores around you trying to get different deals. Stock up on things like rice, pasta, or other things that don’t go bad easily and try to make things homemade. Also try to get onto a butchers good side and he or she might cut you some sweet deals and learn what to ask for from them. You can still eat healthy just shop smart. But I still don’t blame you , it is getting expensive now.
