Same.. 6ft. 4in. 215lbs, just under 7.5 in wrist, everything under 43 mm looks like a kids watch on me. Sometimes my Omega PO looks dainty from certain angles. I find myself wearing the nato strap more as it makes the everything look slightly bigger. White dial explorer 2 is my favorite watch by far from Rolex and yet I can't wear it... I'm restricted to the deep sea which is underwhelming... My next watch will either be an older two counter speedmaster that's 44.25mm, a Panerai Luminor, a GS GMT, or the Oris Skeleton 10 day reserve

Love, love, love the 42mm Polar "as is" - I think the appropriate size of a watch is almost wholly dependent on the size AND shape of your wrist - for my 7.65" wrist 42-44 tends to be MY sweet spot - 40mm is my low end and 46mm is my top - case shape also matters so much, for example the 45 BP FF fits and wears great on me, as does the 45mm SLA033 - whereas my beloved 42mm Pelagos FXD actually doesn't fit on me as well due to flat case shape, so the 45mm SLA033 hugs my wrist perfectly, where the lugs on the FXD tend to sit high off my wrist - still love it, but that is a perfect example where how a case is shaped wears on your wrist vs just looking at width/diameter specs. No ill will against the sub-40mm or 38mm is perfect crowd, what annoys me is the iconoclast mentality of some reviewers when they discuss this subject - IMO, the "correct" size is wholly dependent on what works on each specific person's wrist best.

Good discussion Bruce and Rob. Date windows at the 12 are OK by me, even if they move it down a bit toward the hand stack (but not too much). The eye is quickly drawn toward that part of the dial, so a date has utility there. It is of course, preferred at the 6 but I like "no dates" too. As far as size, 42 is the sweet spot for me and anything sub-40 is just too diminutive for my taste. I like to feel like I have something on my wrist. PCL's are an obvious "no-no" along with anything under 4hz (except Omega).

I've resigned myself to the idea that it is probably a good thing that there is something unappealing about the vast majority of watches. Otherwise I might be tempted to own the vast majority of watches, and I would list a kidney on eBay or something to fund it all. :) Cannot agree on the Exp II. I think 42mm is a great size for it. As a big watch guy, there isn't actually that much in the Rolex catalogue that appeals to me size-wise. That is why the only Rolex in the collection ATM is the Exp II. There are plenty of Rolex for the more slight of wrist without shrinking the few remaining.

Agreed 100% on the modern Explorer II. I used to daily a Planet Ocean but that 42mm Explorer is simply too big for my wrist! It’s a 42 that wears like a 44 and those straight lugs dont help. At least the Planet Ocean drops down at the lugs.

Guys great discussion. I agree with all points on the exp 2 bring it down to 40mm or 39mm and it will be so popular again. I too believe the portions are off at 42mm. I want a field watch. Most field watches are 38.5mm. A small handful are 40mm max. For some reason no-one will do a field watch larger than 40mm. I also want it to have a luxury leaning, but only subtley so. The Rolex Explorer 40 looks to be the ideal choice, BUT... I tried on a Rolex Explorer 40. It looked lost on my wrist. Too small. I think the proportions of bezel to dial as a result of the Oyster case design make the dial look small. So the one change I'd want is for it to be 42 or 43mm. So same size argument, but from the other side.
