Yes it can be really hard to edit smartphone footage and remembering to have all those settings the same and to double check them can be so frustrating but for me it's so rewarding to show what is possible with a phone. Great video as always! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Great video as always Zdenka~! Thank God, you said it. Time and again I have been telling the same thing to all my friends and also on social media that one just cannot compare a smartphone camera to a real professional camera. No matter how much technology evolves, the smartphone camera will never be able to beat something which has an actual purpose built into it. People also just don't realize all the background work that needs to be done 'after' taking an actual photograph or a video, like editing and post production. They always fall into the trap, (Thanks to many KZbinrs) thinking that an expensive smartphone camera with all those fancy lenses will make them stand out. If you have a smartphone with a fairly good camera, just go out there and start shooting until you feel that your photos and videos make 'some' difference. If it's only for hobby and social media, any budget smartphone will do the trick, but one always needs to learn 'some' basics, at least, to stand out in the crowd. After 2 years of practicing, daily for 2 hours, with my smartphone camera, I have gained 'some' amount of confidence that I may be ready for my first real professional camera. Instead of spending money on very expensive high end smartphones, I might just put some more money and buy the real thing. People really need to understand first what photography and cinematography is and then decide. Cheers~! :)

I'm sort of still just starting out. I'd say if you are very new just use whatever you have so that while you are saving up money and trying to figure out which gear to get, you can work on skills like camera presence, good speaking (that is my problem, I pause and stutter a lot), playing with editing software which I'm about to start soon and trying to figure out which software to use, and if it is still something you want to pursue and what is it you want to pursue. For me I don't want to be a professional camera person for hire per se, I want to be able to make good quality videos, with good thought out speaking to my audience, and then get into doing cool special affects. So for me it seems my focus will be more on software learning than on hardware. I am leaning towards a Sony A6600 because it seems to be good for video, pictures, youtube, and vlogging, has a screen that can flip to the front (a big reason why I chose this over many other models), and seems to be more robust than the $500-$700 cameras but not break the bank like the $3,000+ cameras for my budget, because I also want a lens or two and a microphone and external storage. I really wanted to save up for a used Red 6k camera but now I do not like the Red cameras, I feel like they are too take advantage of their customers with the price, add ons, and proprietary accessories. I was also leaning towards a black magic 6k camera and still have interest but ultimately I like the idea that my Sony A6600 lens will be usable on higher end Sony cameras if I upgrade. I am still banging my brains out over what software to use and get familiar with. For now I just use different smartphones, even older ones that had nice cameras, like oneplus 3t, lg g4 and g5, some iphones, and even for convenience a logitech webcam for quick little videos.

Being an artist I need to take photos of my subjects as a guide so the photograph is not the most important as long as the image is clear and I am able to see it clearly. I draw from the image I took. It is like still life. I pose the model and then set the mood and then take the photo. I also do videos on KZbin and use my Samsung Galaxy note 10. Since I don't have a ton of money to spend on equipment I try and make the most out of what I have. I do have a Nikon L830 digital camera that I like to use as well.

I think that using a smartphone can produce some amazing results, but I've had a lot of difficulty, especially when filming by myself. Using an Android phone with a gimbal is painful because you get so few choices in the DJI Mimo app for frame rates. My large phone - the Samsung Note 20 Ultra - can't be used on a gimbal with an ND filter (or any other type of filter) because is too heavy even with counter-weights. That means you better get very used to filming without a gimbal and get very good at taking video handheld. It also means you will need to learn how to use the Samsung camera app, which means you won't get some of the gimbal functionality (modes) or tracking. There is always much to consider before using it. For these reasons, my smartphone is now really used as a second camera or for product tracking shots Of course, you could simplify your life (for video) and just get an Iphone. Regardless, I ended up getting a Sony ZV-1 to solve so many of these issues. It's still small, but so much more convenient. I can add filters, use a gimbal (depending on the gimbal and support, you will not get all the modes if it is not on the compatibility list), get all the framerates available on the camera, even create a shallower depth of field. It's kind of in-between because it has a fixed lens and you can't get the same kind of depth of field / background blur you can get with cameras like the M50. It is more of an all in one package. So many choices, fortunately, all are mostly good. Sadly, gear doesn't solve my lack of skills. Learning slowly, thanks to Zdenka and others who provide such useful content.

Hi Zdenka, thank you for posting this video. I am currently shooting my videos with my smartphone and a Moza MX2 gimbal, and so far I am satisfied with the results. However, I am currently interested in getting a DSLR or mirrorless camera for photography but mostly videos. I have been looking at a lot of reviews for which camera is good for videos. I also own a camcorder but would prefer a camera. Many cameras I was looking at have some good pros and cons for videography. I have downsized it to two cameras that they said are good for videos. The Lumix G95 and the Sony A6400. However, the Sony is limited to 29 minutes of continuous shooting and has no built-in stabilization. The Lumix G95 has continuous recording and built-in stabilization. I was wondering if you had the chance to review any of these cameras or maybe a recommendation. Thank you! I don't want to spend more than $900, just in case the camera does not work for me.

I would like to have some cinematic dreamy shots in my vlogs and I've came to the conclusion that you can not get that on a smartphone because it has limited aperture and shutter speed settings and from what I learned it's all about those settings combined with ISO. Simply because the camera is fully digital unlike the optical lenses

I think your comparision is not very objective. It's totally fine that you prefer traditional cameras. But the reason you state are sometimes a bit doubtful. For example that the battery of the phone can get empty. Seriously? You just bring a powerbank and you can use your phone unlimted, you can even reload with solar panels if you are on a longer outdoor trip. With cameras empty is empty unless you buy expensive additional batteries. Or the the thing with the price is also a biased way to compare. The point is that we all need a phone anyway in modern life. So the costs are actually only the upgrade from a medium phone to one a flagship model with a great camera. And then phone is half the price to a camara. Or that you can accidentally change the setting? I guess accidents generally happen more with the camera you are less familiar with. In your case it is the mobile phone. I personally had more often problems with settings in my DSLR. I am travel writer and travel blogger. While I do admit that the DSLR produce better looking images, one thing to keep in mind is that the best camera is the one that you actually have at hand. And thats more often than not the phone rather than the camera. Especially on travels.

This is an old video, but there ain't no way I'm waiting to charge solar or even bring a power bank to the field and then waiting to charge. They may be an extra cost but camera batteries are really small and lightweight and takes seconds to change out than 45 minutes to charge your phone. Plus cameras are just more rugged and can handle more abuse when in the field. Drop your phone you're out of a camera and a phone.
