Great relay of the story. Thanks (and, so glad you and the family came out safely). Please do share more. I once drove through a short tunnel at the posted 30 mph, and honked my horn while doing so. When exiting, I came upon several deer, who were startled by my honk. They crossed the road suddenly, with most passing safely in front of me. One, however, jumped on my hood and "skated" across safely to the other side. Had I been going more that 30 mph, I would have plowed into the whole bunch. Safe travels...

Hi Edna, I hit a full grown dear in a big Mercedes van, it was 23.00 on a dark windy country road, it came out of nowhere, I hit the brakes hard to minimise the impact, or it would have come through the windscreen, that would have been my lot for sure, I hit the deer but it just stood there looking straight at me through the windscreen, then it jumped the hedgerow and disappeared into the night, I got out to check the damage, the front of the works van was totalled, no lights or anything, I had to drive the rest of the way back to the depot shining a torch out of the window, I made it back safe though. I have wrecked every truck I’ve owned, but the only time I hit a deer, i was 17, and it literally bounced off my bumper, no idea how, without any damage to my truck. And even better, THE DEER SURVIVED WITH MINIMAL INJURY! We called the Conservation Officers to come get the deer and take it somewhere where they could maybe help it. Overall, a very boring if not amazing story, but it was my first ever wreck, so I remember it well.
