READ SBURB TAS IN 8:41:53.06: sburbtas.mspfa.com
Credits page for the comic - A lot of people helped me make it, not just the 4 in the special thanks: mspfa.com/?s=36005&p=15
I do wish to apologize again for the visuals being quite lacking. I wanted this video out on October 24th, and I only had this free video editor for macOS to work with, and not enough time to fully realize everything - though I guess that's the point of the video, not enough time for too many ideas, eh?
Anyway, SBURB TAS has been a wonderful experience. I greatly encourage anyone who read the comic and enjoyed it and this video to also read my (as-of-yet unfinished) commentary, enabled via adventure info, for more thorough insights on specifics of every page.

7:47 the reason time and space players are needed is because time players planets have the scratch, in case anything goes wrong, I suppose not applicable here where they’re destined to win. Space players are needed because their planet contains the forge, necessary for breeding the genesis frog.
@PanBelacqua
@PanBelacqua 6 ай бұрын
Time players also seem to be integral for stoking the Forge. Dave had to reach out to Hephaestus in order to get the Forge on LOFAF working. This is, iirc, the only time we hear of cross-planetary quest stuff like this, except for Echidna's quills being the intended tool for initiating the Scratch. Even if you don't need to reset, both aspects seem to be required in order for a session to be won the 'correct' way. Who knows though; Bro's Unbreakable Katana began the Scratch on LOHAC, so maybe there's some backdoor method to igniting the Forge in the event that you're missing a time player.

@@PanBelacqua it is *theoretically* possible to win without a time player, but it has never been done.

@@alexanderleonardi3625because scouring a whole planet for the perfect frogs is nearly impossible without time travel. Even the trolls didnt do it in time and they had weeks.

I really loved seeing how you made the comic and what would have been. It's not often we see authors post background information on the planning phase.

About time players. They have a lil something in their planet called "scratch construct" which basically can hard reset the universe in case things go south which happened in homestuck
@Habbitual
@Habbitual 6 ай бұрын
That doesn't make them required though. Scratching is meant to be a last resort, so it's not a required aspect. It just helps if you fucked things up.

I had so much more fun reading your comic than I had reading homestuck^2. It made me feel such joy that I felt reading since the epilogue. Genuinely well made and interesting, looks fantastic, all the gifs and sound pages were a treat. I would have loved to see a finished version just to see more of the characters I grew to adore, but this was good enough at least.

A certain Nerd recommended SBURB TAS to me as a good (though incomplete) MSPFA, and I was pleasantly surprised to find this video at the end! I'm glad to hear you had a good time making SBURB TAS, and I'm glad you were able to see it finalized in a way with this video. Reading through the comic was fun, and learning about your process of creation here was fascinating. As someone who got into homestuck recently, I'm continually amazed by how much creativity it's inspired. Good video, good fancomic, good times.

I agree with a lot of your ideas relating to this comic, but I have to disagree with the opinion that act 1 is boring (and therefore should be skipped). It's not that it's my favorite part, but I still like the process of getting to know the characters. The context of how these people act before the game changes them is important; for a *spoilery* example, watching Delire make their way up the RNG tower was a huge moment of character development, but seeing them in the intro behaving normally can do a lot to set up that impact and deepen its effect. The real reason I have to disagree with it, though-- the assumption of disinterest. I think I am safe in assuming that there are many mspfa readers who enjoyed homestuck, and are here specifically because they have interest in how someone else might take the prompt and rewrite or reinterpret it, with new characters and new ideas, just with a familiar prompt. I'm not saying it's wrong to dislike certain parts, and to choose to spend more time on the parts you liked; ultimately, you still worked it into a unique prompt as a sort of wordless quip on the slow pacing of act 1. But it's not like it was unenjoyable or unnecessary. I understand the structural reasons to try and get the project running before it can fall flat, but I feel like it's a bad mindset to assume the reader wouldn't enjoy what you might write there, even if it's mostly a re-tread. I don't know if that makes sense. Or if even made a correct interpretation on what you were saying. But it just sort of struck a sour note in me to hear someone dislike their writing before they even got a chance to write it.

holy crap, i feel like i'm almost woefully undeserving to watch this video. all the amazing advice and information you've given in here is AMAZING, this feels like it should be the documentary feature hidden behind purchasing the whole comic on DVD or something!! EXCELLENT video, I'm gonna go out and read your comic now!! you explain your decisions so transparently and honestly that it's extremely refreshing, really showing just how doable yet difficult it is to make something like Homestuck. i loved your breakdown of the Rose panel in the middle section, going to save that for my own use one day haha you are an excellent person and you deserve the world; putting your own comic out for the wide world to read entirely for free is already doing an incredible service, but being so helpful alongside is just... seriously. SO far above the pay grade. thank you so much

I was listening to Tally Hall in the background while watching this so when Spring and a Storm started playing I was seriously wondering why my playlist was suddenly out of order. Anyway, the spriting process and analysis of why fan adventures fail was really interesting and I'm probably gonna check out the comic now.
