Laura L Lani Sarem, the author of the book, stole Gil Del-Mace’s (an acclaimed painter) piece titled “The Knife Thrower” and commissioned another artist to tweak it slightly, so it would better resemble the main character, and she could use it as the front cover. She did not give the original artist credit. Sarem was then accused of plagiarism by Del-Mace’s agent and I believe lawyers got involved. I’m not sure what happened later, but perhaps they settled the case out of court. The most absurd part of this whole debacle is, there isn’t even a scene involving knife throwing in the book. The front cover is a reference to nothing. They stole it for no good reason.
