Hi there, Tim. I am a forty-something living in NYC somehow making a living designing, building and (endlessly) repairing amusements and props. You are my highest hero in this domain and watching the Secret Life of Machines in the '90s is largely responsible for me foolishly perusing this line of work. thanks and also nuts to you for all you have done for me. if ever given the chance, I'd love to buy you and Rex a lavish meal and many libations at my own expense and peril. very sincerely, a guy who saves all leftover parts.

It's freaking stupid because our phones are important as a means to stay in contact with our friends and family, so calling phones bad just because people get distracted by the internet access they give us is completely ignoring how connected phones make the world
@TheJohnRowley2 жыл бұрын
@@superspider64 @superspider64 Nobody is calling cellphones bad, the automaton is making a comment about how people walk along ignoring there surroundings because they are so engrossed in their phones. It's great to have a cell phone - that doesn't mean we have to look at it all the time instead of being aware of the world and people around us. Most children alive today do not know what it is like to walk to the corner store with a parent without the parent using their phone - is that a good thing? No it isn't - that doesn't mean that if a parent occassionally used their phone whilst walking with their child that is a bad thing - do you see the distinction? Regarding how much you value cell phones connecting the world - this is and is not a good thing socially - it's great for us to keep in contact with people far from us, potentially bad for us socially in how we view the world - and how we feel the world views us - through the edited lens of social media, bad for us in regards to being a part of our immediate surroundings - nothing is black and white. But to get back to the point - Tim Hunkin created this machine about phone obsession, perhaps fifty years ago he might have made it about people walking along looking at newspapers.

I played I-zombie back in 2019 and I was not very good at it... I'm facepalming now because I had no idea that the machines in the arcade were Tim's handywork; in fact it may have been Tim in the arcade with me! I'm sure it saved us both a lot of embarrassment, as a grown man shouldn't gush too much in public. I also got anal probed and won $1 billion, which I went on to invest incredibly unwisely. They say you should never meet your heroes, but it didn't do me any harm.... bar the anal probe.

I thought when the player collides with those smombies, his phone would get knocked and fall on the ground. Another nice ending would be that after taking the phone away, you hear the noise of a grinder like in "Will it Blend?", seeing actual shredded smartphone debris drizzling down behind a transparent window, to make the player think his actual phone had been grinded in a blender.
