Jimmy Carter was a disastrous US President for a variety of reasons, in both domestic and foreign policy. He was definitely no friend of Israel. Carter doggedly viewed issues of international conflict through the prism of his inveterately naive self identity as a champion of the "underdog". Ironically, as an evangelical Christian, Carter was inexplicably but consistently oblivious to Israel's overwhelming historical case justifying its internationally recognized right to exist in its ancestral homeland. As a self styled Biblical scholar and Sunday school teacher, there can be no excuse for his obvious and enduring animus toward Israel. Carter could see the issue of the "Palestinian-Israeli conflict" only through the false lens of the "Arab right of return" or "a two state solution" for its resolution. His misguided "underdog" bias made him inveterately pro-Palestinian, and anti-Israel. He authored a very controversial book about Israel, "Palestine", and the Middle East, entitled, "Palestine Peace Not Apartheid". An explanation of the strong reaction to the highly controversial title would be superfluous here. After Carter's book was published, in 2006 Professor Alan Dershowitz of Harvard Law School challenged Carter to a public debate at predominantly Jewish Brandeis University on key points of Carter's book which Dershowitz had vociferously attacked in the national media, and had publicly called Carter a liar. Under strong public pressure from Brandeis as well as Dershowitz, Carter continued to steadfastly refuse a debate. In the end, in January 2007, Carter finally agreed to defend the controversial points in his book with a 30 minute speech, and following, to respond to written questions from the audience. In the interests of fairness and balance, Brandeis invited Professor Dershowitz to present a 30 minute rebuttal speech immediately following the former President's remarks. I remember watching both speeches, and my reaction was that Dershowitz proceeded to completely destroy Carter's most offensive and controversial points, one by one. It should be noted however that in 2007, both Carter and Dershowitz did agree on "a two state solution" for ultimate resolution of the conflict. Now, as a result of the October 7th massacres, Dershowitz has changed his position, and now believes that the two state solution is a dead issue, probably permanently. I agree. Jimmy Carter will not be missed in Israel, nor wherever moral men and women stand solidly with the Jewish State. President Carter, rest in peace. 🐻🙏🇺🇲🇮🇱

All you missed with your comment was as we Southerners say “bless his heart”! 😊 Thank goodness today’s Christians are standing strong with Am Yisrael! Great opportunity for Syria to fill the population with some more Muslims, send the Gazans and Westbank animals there. They are the sort to thrive under strict Islamic law. Clearly they cannot live among the people of democracy, Israel. Bless their hearts “Not”.
