Well, a lot of things linux can do under the hood is possible with windows, but people start with windows as a children just bashing keys, not having proper education on what it is capable of, so most people are doing linux because of wrong reasons... Just mere fact that most linux users are surprised that windows has command prompt/console, too is hilarious.

I assume you are referring to power toys and workspaces (not the one I show cased but windows offering). I do believe that solution does work for a huge amount of people but it didn't satisfy my itch for i3wm. Please use whatever makes you move and be productive. Sometimes its a 'feel' thing which are based on what we are used to as well.
@matt92hun11 ай бұрын
I think work spaces have been a part of Windows since 10 latest, maybe earlier, it doesn't require power toys.. And you could tile windows with the Windows button + arrow keys since 7. Although I don't think rearranging windows after you close one has ever been an option. In tiling is even better, tiled windows can be tabbed to together, kind of like work spaces within work spaces. The only thing it's missing is being able to tile linux windows running in WSL. @@ThePragmaticAutomator

Interesting, but it'll never compare to actual i3 or another wm. If you like WMs, why don't you switch to Linux? I mean I'm pretty sure you can run almost every program on Linux or a game rn. Fore example, you can test every program you need in Virtual Machine before switching.
@ThePragmaticAutomator11 ай бұрын
Hey you are completely correct in that it doesn't compare to i3wm. It does however do everything 'i need'. Which wasn't much. 'Full screen' and 'auto sizing'. This can also be done with hacks with auto hot key etc. I didn't want to spend the time/money/energy into things that were distracting me from 'work'. This was a quick win due to the fast installation and 'abort' button incase I encounter problems. I do one day want to dive into my iw3m configuration but its a luxury I don't want/have right now compared to my other priorities.

I mean, WSL was meant to be "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish" for Linux, and your love of it proves that it's working. So, kudos on that I guess. But on the subject of the actual video, I'll give workspacer a try. I had to move back to Windows after I encountered a hardware issue as I don't have the money to invest in an AMD/Linux system replacement right now, and Windows is making me miss tiling something fierce. I'm currently running Komorebi but as far as I've seen tiling on Windows has been *incredibly* buggy. It randomly stops working at a moment's notice, applications decide they're going to stay on the workspace without any say-so on my part (as if pinned), sometimes they just don't move no matter what you're doing (Firefox, for instance)... it's been a mess. I miss Linux. Maybe Workspacer will be a better experience.
@ThePragmaticAutomator11 ай бұрын
If you liked that I would highly recommend my 'WSL2: Pragmatic Software Development' video where I showcase the 'embrace, extend, extinguish' mentality. I hope workspacer is a better experince, I've found that most people prefer GlazeWM. Maybe this alternative is a better one for you. Good luck on your search and your use case

The difference is that Linux can use like 750mb running a wm and the entire OS and this "solution" would use like 4gb to run all the windows bloat + a wm in addition. I use linux as a daily driver, but on my windows machine I wouldn't want to bloat it further. I like the concept though.
