@@SpringloftStudio agree 100%. Example are phone reviews. It's incredible how every prominent KZbinr loves the iPhone (even though it is ridiculously over priced) or the pixel because of it's clean and incredible UI as though it is a Linux machine and they are coding on their phones (the pixel is also a shitty overpriced phone with a decent camera). Hello Max! I saw your vid about 8700k build and decided to take it as a guide. So currently i have 8700k (@4.8Ghz stable), asrock z370 pro4 MoBo, 16Gb RAM, 120Gb sata ssd, 2Tb HDD and a Gigabyte 1080 premium edition. I had a project shot on GH5s in 4k log, decided to grade in Resolve and finish in premiere pro. And i was quite a bit disappointed about lags while cursoring though my TL and less visible while playing back. It is mostly in premiere but also in DaVinci. IDK what to do) My cache is on ssd.. And the system load is waaay far from 100% Like CPU is 50% max usage, GPU is less than 10%, RAM - 8-10Gb. What did I do wrong? The last thing I`m thinking about is H.264 but i dont know for sure. In the video you said you used A7ii footage, was it also H.264 or smth else? I really don`t know what else to think about. So asked if you can help) Greetings from Ukraine! Albert

Max, quick question since you get hands on the Macbook Pro's all the time. I just got me a mid 2018 15" (2,6GHz, 16GB, 512GB, 560X) and noticed some serious coil whine not only when demanding the SSD (booting, installing apps, SSD benchmark whatsoever), but also when I perform GPU intensive tasks. For instance, when I scrub through the timeline in Resolve I can always clearly hear a coil whine sound coming from the area round the "m"-key. The faster I scrub through, the louder it actually is. Sometimes it's enough to only move the cursor in certain areas in Resolve, such as in the LUT library. It's even worse in FCX. Have you ever experienced something like this? Thank you & keep up the great work!

Ultrasound Music audio and music is not draining as much like video editing. I found even adding a text label on my video drains a lot of render power, while using even lots of software plug in even 10 years ago runs well with 24 bit 48 hz. You’d care a lot about latency and disruption than power nowadays, like cutting off all network connections and background tasks, your audio interfaces.

I looked at 15” MacBook Pro that you bought. I’m wondering, why did you get only 512GB for the storage? Why didn’t you get 1TB? Is it because you put everything on external drives? Looking at the Apple Store and Best Buy it seems that for about $450 you can get 2 1TB SSD external drives for the price of just 1 TB internally on the MacBook Pro. Maybe this is why you only have the 512GB option.

Editing programs use massively the gpu, for example pluging an egpu you will get better performance, you are comparing Vega 20 vs Vega 20. If you do 3D renderings with Keyshot you will notice the difference. Probably 10 seconds faster for one frame rendered of 1000 worth $300,00.

Wouldn’t you want to run tests that are more demanding on the CPU rather than the GPU? I’m no computer engineer but I would guess that they should perform pretty similar on those graphic-based tests since they have the same GPU. Am I missing something here?

All these MacBook need is a proper thermal paste I mean Snazzy Labs has proven even repaste it with a budget paste like the MX3 his Mac mini never throttle while the stock one has throttle issue If Apple able to work with lets say either Noctua or Artic to make a better mass produce paste for their product to minimize throttle issue probably the performance will better

If you only keep your video editing program open with minimal web browsers you shouldn’t see much if any of a difference but if you work on long timelines or multiple open and also other programs or browser tabs than 32GB is helpful. In that case you’ll feel the timeline being smoother and faster renders too.

What about other software that is not video editing, like photography? I know both are an overkill but: will it make difference? If it will then you should make the clarification because you could be misleading your viewers (not intentionally clearly). The problem with video editing is that it requires sustained performance. That is not common.. Whe you compare with the iMAC pro it will be great to have the Mac mini and the i7 iMAC too .

Thanks Max - not for video content but off camera, have you tried using a fan control app and/or an external cooler of sorts? My hypothesis is that your results might be similar as both i7 and i9 will both be running about the same clock speeds...a significant performance difference might only be seen if you can get both processors to run at their respective max speeds for the duration of the render. No joke, I've tossed my iPhone X/Xs into the freezer to render a 4K movie on iMovie and it goes way faster!
@MaksimYuryev
@MaksimYuryev 5 жыл бұрын
External cooling will make them run faster (stick them in a freezer like Dave Lee did lol) but fan control app doesn’t do anything since the fans run at the same speeds.

@@MaksimYuryev Would you recommend running the smcFanControl on these new Macbook Pros? @MaksimYuryev
@MaksimYuryev 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheEmailDev I don't think it matters as much anymore. The 6 core CPU's heat up much faster than before and the fans do kick up all the way pretty quick if you're pushing your machine to the limit. The CPU will slow down so that it doesn't overheat. I just leave mine as is. Fan noise is annoying and if you're on battery running your fans faster than you need reduces your battery life.

I’ve had both the I7 and the I9. Here’s the deal. For me a software dev when loading emulators of other os, or building software it’s faster. It’s a lot faster. In short burst. Not long term things that cause it to run for 15 minutes. However, for task that take 5 minutes etc, I’m seeing cuts in software build times to 2min.
