Appreciate this vid as a fellow 10850k owner. I have known for a while that its been holding back my 3080Ti but curious what kind kf bump I could get with a newer CPU. I might just be crazy but i really feel like the 10850k shelf life was incredibly short... I remember running a haswell i5 4670k for over 5 years without any major performance loss. But now a (almost) top spec i9 from 3 years ago is getting blown away by current gen i7's and such.

Same here , picked mine up on release , the 12th gen really had a big jump , my 4790k lasted me like 5 years , 10850k will be 3 once I swap it in a few days for a 7800x3d

Bro of CPU haha I literally went from a 4790k to a 10850k and now with a 7900xtx I feel like I have to change and this range didn't last at all... I'm still going to go for a 11900k although the improvement will be insignificant, but I don't want to change PCs. It's practically new :(@@Dx-so7jm

I came from a Haswell to 10850K too, I think Intel fell asleep for a few years until 12th gen. 10th gen really feels dated.
@LastExile1989Ай бұрын
@@kiwiasianNot at all. What's holding the 10th gen back is the low memory speeds. And low ring bus. I pushed mine to 5.2GHZ with 5ghz ring bus all core. Paired with B die 4400mhz ram that's damn near a 30% performance boost. People don't know how to tune anymore I swear lol.

@@LastExile1989 for me, the time and effort to fix potential memory instability isn’t worth it beyond enabling XMP. My mobo rated my silicon potential in the 50s so I wasn’t expecting any useful gains.

Good to know my Valheim world isn't hopeless, got a 600 hour build that drops to 30-40 fps. It's insanely detailed with 14k instances. Thought it might be engine limited but seems not if you doubled your fps almost.

Man I love this... Well just tech in general, Would love to be in the position to go from a 10850k to a 13900k.... I'm just wondering if there is a setting in the bios of the new board that is not setting and that's why its showing base speed and also why your graphics score went down on the 3D mark fires-trike run because its only running at base even though it showing in task manager as boosting to near 6ghz...Because there is no way that your graphics score should be lower, if anything, that 13th gen should be letting the 3090ti spread its wings even more and getting more out of it and a better score, definitely not dropping at all. I once went from a x5675 2012 server CPU for an old X58 rig socket 1366 which for its age was still a beast overclocked to 4.3ghz all core, and i went to a 9900k just standard and i was surprised at how much just a CPU change and obvs a motherboard let my 1080ti open up and fly... Massive difference there was, i mean the new board was DDR4 too and the GPU PCIe link speed went up to 8.0 GT/s from 5.0 GT/s but yeah literally doubled the fps in most games i played... But yeah nice little upgrade for ya there, be even nicer if u did get that 4090 eventually, monsters... Got a feeling the 4090s are gonna be the 1080ti's of the day, still a beast of a card today even in 1440p.

I average 150-165fps in pubg with an 10850k, and a 3080 @1440p high detail…. would a 4090 be to much of a gpu for this processor ?
@kiwiasian7 ай бұрын
I had the same setup then went to 4080. Yeah it’s better but not a lot better. There are some games that were unplayable on the 3080 maxed like Alan Wake 2, now it’s 80fps maxed. 3080 is still plenty, just cant max everything out like it used to.

Tuned comet lake to tuned alder lake with DDR4/DDR5 is around 25% faster. Raptor lake is another 20% with the higher clock speeds and better memory controller. For reference, a tuned 10900k (5.2/4.9) with 4500mhz RAM and tight timings is going be faster than a stock 12900k. A stock 13900k might beat out an overclocked 10900k though. (As long as you don’t pair it with trash ram) these numbers are mainly for gaming workloads, NOT synthetic. Cinebench scores do not translate into gaming performance at all

Not a realistic clock speed for the 10850k,that goes to 5.1Ghz no sweat. It is still slower of course, but yours is particularly slow. And in what "real world" you run a 3090Ti on a 10850k with DDR4 3600. You either go beyond 4200 or don't even bother.

@@Shawner666 I run a 10900k with a 4090. There wasn't any point at all in upgrading the CPU, mobo or ram (even to DDR5) IF you game in 4k. Almost everything is GPU bound at that resolution. Go look at the 4K only benchmarks. Even the top AMD and Intel CPUs are almost the same as several generation old CPUs in those situations. If 4k gaming is your goal and you want a 4090, forget about any other upgrades. Your 10850 will be just fine.
