I want to add that it's very cool that we can actually directly communicate with the pros nowadays. Back in the 80/90's this was very difficult for many of us. Thanks Iain, many of us appreciate what you are doing here.

Thanks for the breakdown. It's awesome as usual. I am always tempted to open my eyes underwater, but I dont want them blasted with sand. Visibility at my home break in OB SF is pretty poor anyway.

I think the real trick to your deep dives is that fin you keep planted deep. One knee on the back of the board, the other leg straight. Providing a stroke downward propulsion once fully submerged. Great vid!

Thanks, it would be nice if you upload more videos explaining stuff like this. How to bodyboard in different beaches (rock or sandy), how to get out of the wave when the wave is going to close you, which (big) waves to take, which one is going to close and its dangerous and which one is going to open Regards from Canary Islands, i hope you visit here one day ;-)

I learned to do everything I know in bodyboarding on my own, from tutorials or by asking people who looked better than me so I probably have tricks and maneuvers that the technique is not as perfect as I imagined it would be with duck diving. I found this video and decided to watch it to see if my duck diving technique was good. I realized that I do everything pretty well even blocking with one of my legs at the back of the board. But I do something different that I don't know if it prevents me from going as far as I should, and that is that I grab the board by the nose and do all my push down movement with my hands there instead of on the sides of the board as shown in the video. Would this way be just as effective or should I get used to the one shown in the video? And thank you Iain for the tips

You can get the board deeper doing it my way and you will have more control if the wave pushes you around… also a much better grip on the board.

@@iaincampbell_ It makes sense. because the problem I noticed was that in big and more than anything strong waves the board sometimes slipped out of my hands and I couldn't complete the duck dive properly. thanks for the advice

Hello Ian...an advice please 🙏 I am 1, 73 m tall and wheiht 84 kilos I am not a big wave rider or do mavovers...I just love to cut the wave surf in the rail of the board and gain as much speed possibel. Enjoy a good fast line. I dont go more than 4/ 5 feet. Usualy I surf super tubos and other fast holow waves in Portugal. Wich size, tipe and board do you think I shoud get now, does the iss stringer give me more flutuability and speed and which kind of rail and conclave grabs beter the wall of the wave, to keep a good speed line? Thanks very much 🙏
@iaincampbell_
@iaincampbell_ 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, so you should be on a 42 inch board if you want to be going fast. Boards with full crescent tails or even a bat tail will make you go very fast… the bat tail is very loose so it won’t hold in the face of the wave. There is always a payoff when it comes to boards so just try look for a decent size. When it comes to ISS I don’t think it will make the board much better than a normal stringer. If you’re changing temperature waters and traveling, then I would suggest it but otherwise I don’t think you need it. Hope this clears up a bit for you.

Great vid. 👍🏼I ate shit a few times duck diving this morning. 😅 The sets were bigger than I'm used to lately. I think i wasn't going deep enough for long enough. Plus I lost breath really quick as waves were not far behind each other. Also my board is still slippery after years 🤦🏻‍♂️lol.

You can try. The drive from the duck dive kicking is hard to match without fins.

Hi Ian, thanks for this. I noticed that your body is pretty low on the board after the kick. In my case my head is closer to the front of the board, as I am pulling myself to the board. I tried to mimic your style yesterday and totally failed. The other thing I noticed is that you are angling the board closer to vertical before the kick, maybe that has something to do with it.
@iaincampbell_
@iaincampbell_ 2 жыл бұрын
This is a very extreme case of duck diving and not everyone will be in the same position. When it comes to duck diving, staying closer to the board will allow for better control underwater.
@supremespanker

@@iaincampbell_ It is kind of working now. With your technique it is easier to flatten the board under water.

Sometimes when the waves are really big i see people duck diving almost parallel to the wave , why is that? Sick vid🤙🤙
@iaincampbell_
@iaincampbell_ 2 жыл бұрын
There are air pockets and low pressures in the waves where you can get under waves easier. Going parallel allows you to fit into those a bit better.

I found it easier, for me, to put your pushing knee on the tail area as you push down the nose of the board. Hope that made sense.
