the on thing you missed in this vid is how useful Luke's level 1 super can be such a life saver. with its DP like invincible startups it even functions an above average anti air, and make fore some of the best whiff punish there is in neutral. Since getting level 1 is so easy on a round by round basis i try to always keep one in the tank as a get out of jail (mostly) free card.

Im 42 years old, I remember old school days when i was young at the arcade. We would all be standing around either Mortal Kombat 3, or Killer Instinct. There was often one guy on the machine that would be whipping on everyone all night. The rest of us would be in line feeding the machine money and routing for the challenger, Sometime they would really flex and use multiple different characters to smash on folks. Fast forward to today, and you have these dudes like Wong who have leveled the game up even further. I wonder what the scene will look like for the next generation moving forward. Its exciting..

Memphis population skyrocketing. I play a friend who plays modern and it can be pretty hard to remember to not take the risks you might with a classic controls player when they have an invincible super on deck and you’re just focused on closing the round haha. This game is too fun

It’s like if you can do the classic inpu ts to not lose damage, it is hard for me to see how modern Luke isn’t straight up better than classic. Can anybody tell me why he isnt? He does lose some good buttons but 1 button supers and DP is just so good. You automatically change the entire dynamic of the match entirely just by having these 2 things. I donno

You can use specials and supers with one button but they do less damage, however you’re still able to do the original input and get full damage

Modern input for a special is 1 button. In Classic it would be a quarter circle then a punch or kick button. To perform special arts you have to do the quarter circle inputs twice in a row then the correct attack button. For Modern it would be special button and heavy attack at the same time. So it is down forward punch versus a one button input for Luke's sandblast or Ken's hadouken. The inputs for modern are simpler to input, but you lose some moves which could effect some combos or strategies. Modern has light, medium and heavy attack. Classic has light punch, light kick, medium punch, medium kick, heavy punch, heavy kick.

I think when a super is triggered (especially a level 3) there isnt much you can do if you havent decided to block or jump just before the very first frames of the super. It s like a temporary freeze in which u cant move

If you try to jump while he’s in an optimum range, even if you jump, he’ll hit you. I found out the hard way. It’ll skim the bottom of your hit or as you’re ascending

For these modern challenges, are you doing all your specials with special button or do you do the actual input for full damage sometimes? I believe most the high rank modern players do actual input in combos and just special button for reactions like reversals and anti airs but I’m curious if you do that for the challenge or if you’re sticking to the “pure” modern experience

The more I play, the more I believe Capcom balanced Modern really well. It's so funny that the same character with Modern makes me feel soooooo different playing against them... You have to strategize sooo differently.

I dont think its balanced well at all to be honest. It might feel reasonable when you get higher in the ranks but its pretty damn cancerous for anybody in the lower ranks and I think people forget that theres a large range of players in these games. Sure if youre Plat and above it might not be an issue but what about all the Iron ranks? I also understand what people mean now where they say playing against Modern as a Classic player isnt that fun even if you win. The different control schemes mean you play sop differently from a tactical perspective. Its not really the same game so I kinda get what people mean where they say they want the option to separate ranked queues but people just see that as elitism for some reason

Modern Luke has been a problem since day 1. And anyone else who has a DP. Jumping... is literally negated by modern controls.

Most other characters are fine, you are not supposed to jump in this game anyway. What makes Luke broken in modern is his OD fireball, it's the fastest in the game and it goes full screen. With modern control you can literally punish any fireball on reaction from full screen. Not to mention his supers, lvl1 and 3 punishes everything in mid screen and lvl2 punishes most things in close range. The best part is modern Like retains most of his important normals and you can still manually do his combos for big full damage. Modern control sucks for most characters but it's actually not just viable but better than classic control for Luke.
