I am 67 and have grandchildren his age and younger. When I watched his audition I cried like a baby. I would go to KZbin and listen to it again and again. As I watched him sing on American Idol, every song he sang touched my heart. His voice is amazing. I hope no destroys this humble young and he stays as awesome and wonderful as he is. FYI…that Tongan song is just as powerful in the way he delivered it. Though he was born and raised in Hawaii, he didn’t annunciate the Tongan words with any accent. His delivery is just as emotionally powerful in any language. That’s just pure talent💪🏽❤️👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

Iam Tongi is authentic. His very real emotion comes out through his voice and that's what people are glued to when they're listening to him. The young man is still learning. Over the next year he'll grow in knowlege of working with other people who are professional and get where he can seamlessly add other instruments to his own music without showing it through his own. Amazng young man for sure! People need to remember... the kid's 18 here and just followed a dream with American Idol. HUGE Leap into stardom.

It was held at Turtle Bay Resort on Oahu and it was actually closer to 14,500 in attendance. Go Iam.

The reason for the strange camerawork and bad sound at times was because the reporter and cameraman were only at the concert to record some live interviews and little parts of the concert to be shown on the live TV news casts, but the streaming service that was supposed to stream the whole concert didn't come through, so the TV crews that were there had to improvise and stream as much as they could. Everyone at home was scrambling to find anyone who was live streaming from their phones or whatever the TV news could manage. This reporter, Mika Miyashima, was following Iam's family in Washington and Hawai'i, and she did a TV special about Iam's journey from his life in Washington, but I haven't seen it online yet.

The producers were giving him Honey sticks to suck on to help his throat. He said when he first said- "how you all doing tonight" he was like, I got my voice...I'm good to go. ABC and American Idol could make a two-hour special of Iam's Homecoming visit to Hawai'i. They have enough video footage just from their own crew, but could supplement it from the TV stations in Hawai'i.There's usually nothing good on TV during the summer (especially with the writers' strike now) so if ABC cares about their ratings, they should get their producers working on that "Iam Tongi, Hawai'i Hometown Hero" special. It will be a guaranteed ratings Monster for ABC! (Worldwide) I wonder how much writers have to be involved or when the strike will end?

I saw all this footage and had hoped that American idol was going to emphasize the sheer magnitude of his homecoming in Kahuku but all the people from all over Hawaii who showed up at his concert, some nit able to get in! American Idol or maybe KITV could do a whole special (editing out motion sickness video parts 😉) on his two homecoming. It would be wild!! Because this IS Hawaii and our people! We support our people and go all out to do it! People all over the state texting reminders to vote or for me personally, showing older people how to do so by text, the AI app and the web site. Every 30 votes mattered!!! I'm sure Hawaii stopped on Sunday at 2pm so that we could get our 30 votes in right away! @@MerleChloe I saw some clips of Colin and Megan's homecoming "pep rallies" and concerts on bare stages with maybe a few hundred people (they both had bad weather that limited crowd turnout), and I wondered how the American Idol producers and editors were going to fairly present the homecoming visits of the Top 3 because Iam's was so overwhelming. You could see how busy the Idol crew were trying to set up and film everything going on, and they really looked like they were enjoying the concert on stage.Though Colin and Megan's hometowns warmly welcomed them back and got some nice things together to honor them, there was nothing really memorable, and they definitely did not have the support of the whole state as Iam did. And speaking of the voting -- DId you see the video of one of the guys involved in setting up the concert, who was at the airport announcing to the people waiting for a fligtht how to text "12" on their phones to vote for Iam? And everyone followed his directions!

@Jody Y yes! I saw that! He was awesome! I'm in Hilo and I was texting my very "social media conservative" friends to at least TEXT! LOL. I figured that every vote counts! I also searched video on both Colun and Megan's "homecoming" and couldn't find a single thing for days! Just one with Megan singing but not with a live band. I wonder if AI sent bands with the three? Because iams was like a professional live outdoor concert! I was one of those scrambling after Kitv and that other site pulled the plug right at the start. I was told it was music copyright concerns. I think that's why there was only that one reporter and cameraman that was making me seasick. LOL. But I don't care as long as I got to see it! 🌺

@@MerleChloe AI doesnʻt provide any money for the hometowns to have their welcome events -- They just give them several daysʻ notice and sends their production crew over to film it for the finale. Thatʻs whatʻs so amazing about what Kahuku High School and the parade and concert organizers were able to do in such a short time, including finding sponsors and raising money. All of the musicians and many of the production crew volunteered their time for Iam. Megan and Colin were just standing on bare stages alone with two AI cameramen filming around them, but I think Lynard Skynyrd showed up for Coin. I really felt sorry for them as I was comparing what was going on for Iam.

@Jody Y ah, I was wondering how that whole thing worked! But that's the difference between other places and Hawaii. I mean even Iam wearing the fragrant leis looked beautiful, but then when he gave it to Oliver to wish him luck, that was sooooo Iam but also sooooo Hawaii. And when Iam won I saw Oliver giving him his lei which I think was a kukui nut lei? I mean this whole Anerican idol this year (I haven't watched in over a decade. Lol) was magical. Iam represented himself, his ohana, his community, our state with such genuine Aloha and I know EVERYONE felt it. I'm loving that he touched so many people's hearts because we do need more Aloha spread throughout the world today. Iam is the perfect person to spread Aloha beyond American Idol. And I know Hawaii will do everything we can to support him. ❤️ 🌺 🤙 🎶 🌈 🌴 🎤 I'm so excited for him!!!

So that singer my brother is Jesse Rivera. When he talked about dedicating a song to Iam & his dad, it wasn't the song "Word's Don't Come Easy", it was the next song he sang titled "My Dad". Go back about at the 6:00 mark and listen to the song in the background.
