The video was shot in abandoned textile mill south of Monterrey, Mexico. Alessia, a Grammy award winning Canadian pop star, was asked by Metallica to do this cover. But she is not a rock star and The Warning has the same management team as Alessia. So a collab was proposed. Metallica agreed and asked that they not do a straight cover. This became the first song on Metallica’s Blacklist album which was a 30th anniversary tribute to the Black album. This was recorded and mixed in one week in March 2021 to meet Metallica’s schedule. Alessia participated remotely due to covid. The video was shot in September 2021 for the release of the Blacklist album. They play this version at every concert and Alessia participates via the oh ohs on a backing track. Dany plays this using a Gibson Explorer given to her by Lzzy Hale of Halestorm.

Wrong. Metallica asked the warning but she was top artist on label so label pushed for collaboration w their top signed artist to get the warning. That's why they are the mainstay in the performance . That's the way labels work. They've got to get things for their long time artists. They asked bands. Because bands were needed. Kurt if Metallica was aware of them since they went viral w their cover. Credit where credit is due. I'm sure they dudnt know the pop singer/song writer and is why the warning did the rewrite of the sing and not her. The other way doesnt make a bit of sense at all. Just fanfans of pop singer cant see reality.

@@erink695 Then if what you say is true, means that DPA themselves are lying. In a few interviews they have said that originally Alessia was the one invited, and as Dave said , their international management made the connection to do the collaboration. Google it, research it , that’s how it went down.

Alessia first then The Warning but both received the official invitation from Metallica. It was 10 days from when The Warning came on board to rearrange the song, record it and have it mixed and delivered to Metallica. I also think it was The Warning that asked to do Enter Sandman. My understanding was that Alessia was just asked to do a cover for any of the Black album songs. Matt Squire traveled to Mexico and did the long distance producing with several video calls between Alessia in Canada and The Warning in Mexico to get the details worked out but most of the arrangement was from The Warning with contributions from Alessia. I don't know if every participant received the same instructions or not but at least in the case of The Warning they were asked not to do a straight cover. Between the 4 of them they were the only ones that produced a product this different from the original. Metallica was happy with the end result and wrote that to the 4 of them. It took all 4 to get the project done. I don't believe Alessia and The Warning actually got to meet in person until a bit later and then only Dany and Pau since Ale seems to have taken a while to get over removal of her wisdom teeth. DP & Alessia may have been able to meet between the recording of the track and shooting the video which came later. The 4 of them performed a version live at the Troupidor in Los Angeles after touring resumed.

Yes sir. They did this during COVID. The Warning in Mexico. Alessia in Canada. Wrote, recorded, and produced in less than 10 days. The video came a bit after. I have to admit, I am not a Metallica fan, and I was sick of this song, until this version came along. A lullaby where Alessia very sweetly puts you to bed, then Dany rouses the troops, Pau shares a little prayer, and the angel chorus comes to sing you to sleep, then Boom, the hammer drops. I think of this very much as the female version of the Sandman tale. So good. Delicate, powerful, soothing, strong, gentle, fierce-all at the same time. I love this one. OK, now for Enter Sandman Chapter 3. Live at Teatro Metropolitan. Let me tell you, this is so dark and heavy live. I have heard them play it 7 times live now. The did three show in Mexico a couple weeks ago where they added a string section to this as well. I cannot wait for them to release an official recording of that. I caught two of those shows, and I had tears both times with the orchestra.

With this cover, I consider The Warning to have taken a step forward by saying that Covers do not need to be a faithful copy of the original, you can take your own direction, paying redemption and respect to the original without distorting it.
