Thank you for another great video Chris! We have tried very hard to keep our prices low. It’s been very frustrating to say the least. Every time I need to put in another purchase order to our machine shop, we have to get new price quotes for the material. In the last ten years, I would say our cost to make a razor has gone up almost 10-15 dollars a part. We love our customers and believe me, we’re feeling the crunch of inflation in our business and in our person life as well. We’ve tried to do different things to keep from increasing our prices to much. It’s nice to know that the wet-shaving community has our backs. Thank you everyone! 😁❤️ Mariah

As you can tell from my KZbin picture I am a Stirling fan and not just because of price, but the quality is unbeatable. Rod and Mandy work hard to keep prices as low as possible and have even dropped some products because of the ingredients sky rocketing and not wanting to pass that huge increase to the customer. I admire them for that and will spend my money with them knowing they have the customer's interest and checkbook at the top of their list. THAT is a good business practice and will pay off for them in the long run. Another thing I love about Stirling is the ingredients listed on the label are the ingredients that are in the product. That simply isn't so for some of the other companies. Good shave by the way! 😅

Thank you for returning to a stand on morality. A while back, you decided to "forgive and forget." While I am all for forgiveness, I felt the change was too drastic and did not take into account the moral fiber of the artisan. Most situations make that acceptable, But I want to only give my money to people who are deserving. If they are good people, that matters more to me than a perfect product. You have headed back in that direction and I appreciate this move. Have a blessed week. I will continue to pray for you and your family.

Totally agree with you, Stirling is fantastic soap and great value for money. I bought 2 CK6 soaps a while back (when I was new to this hobby) and the cost with shipping to Switzerland was extortionate!!! I could have bought a premium razor for the price it cost me for two soaps w/ matching balms. But I learnt my lesson and now I'm sticking to brands like Stirling, its an excellent soap and also I really like your views and thoughts on the price of things. You have great videos, also I've found your lather tutorials very helpful :)

Great shave today Chris. I love my Stirling soap. That Above The Tie Razor is a beautiful piece of hardware. I totally agree about artisans who hike their already high prices in this economic climate is a bit too much for me. I would be spending my money with the artisans who are being reasonable. Have a great rest of your day. Blessings to you and your family.

Great shave and advice. I've been evaluating prices before purchasing since I started 2 years ago. It's hard to justify a $50 set against $36-40 set when you end up with the same results, unless it's just a scent I love I'll pay a little more for. Have a blessed day

Thank you for your thoughts on this and for willing to walk through the flames of fan boy attacks. Many of us have tight budgets for a hobby that we absolutely adore and some price increases really just make the artisan seem unconscious of the loyalty of their customer base and promote a lack of understanding for a good value to performance price point. Stirling has such great variety and their performance has never been lacking in any regard.

Hey CDB. Thank you for having the courage and fortitude to speak your mind on cost increases. A high inflation tide lifts all boats. Some boats are dinghies and some are luxury yachts. I will continue to support manufacturers that share costs rather than gouge consumers. I appreciate your resolve and vigilance in looking out for the viewer.

Money for soap is not a major issue for me but I still want best value. I recently bought a soap splash combo that exceeded $50 for the set (shipped). I wanted it, got it, like it, but…it’s too much, especially when I can get a set from companies like Sterling in the $30 neighborhood. Like you, I have enough soaps to last my lifetime and will probably leave some for my son. I don’t need any more soap but I’m into the hobby and will buy more at some point. Best value weighs in for my future purchases.

Morning Chris. I agree 100% about some artisans over charging. There are more average shaver in this hobby than higher end shavers. I would love to have some of PAA CK-6 soaps but I will not buy at the price being charged. I am committed to Stirling products and Razorock products. Thanks for taking a stand. Take care and be safe. Great products and artisans today, Chris! It's good that you're speaking out. because some won't in fear of losing access to products and artisans. I was telling people about what was coming three years ago, and I could tell that they thought I was crazy. You had a poll for favorite splashes under $20 and even though I don't own a ton of splashes, most of them are PAA and over that mark. And have been for a long time! I keep thinking of the meme with the dog sitting at the table and the house is engulfed in flames, "It's fine." Being an artist, I know that when times are tough, you're always hit first and the hardest. When the chips are down, you'll find out pretty quick, who are your friends and who are stewards of the community.

Thank you, Shadow. I really appreciate the kind words. Someone has to check these folks and many don't have the courage to do it publicly. They fear the backlash of the fanboys. I honestly do not care if I'm ever sent another evaluation product, ever. I don't do this for that reason. I appreciate it but It's more important for me to speak with full candor and transparency.

Fantastic shave Chris! Again, thanks for bringing that message home. Fortunately, I don't have to buy soap for years, but I will continue to support companies like Stirling, Razorock, etc. There are companies that I will.never purchase or have had purchased, but will not do so again. Fine Accoutrements raised their puck from 16 to 25 dollars in one year's time. That's outrageous and quite honestly, their soaps are very lightly scented. I refuse to pay more than 4 dollars an oz for soap Although I work part time to supplement my SSI . I am basically on a fixed income so I need to be frugal. However, if I had more discretion income, then I still would kick some of these artisans who charge outlandish prices to the curb. I am sorry for rambling, but I had to get this off my chest. Keep doing what you're doing Chris! Enjoy your day!

I’m right there with you! I use Stirling soaps all the time. Just this morning I tried a sample puck of their Frozen Tundra followed by Fine’s Snake Bite after shave. I was refreshed for hours. I needed it at the start of warm weather here in Las Vegas. The value of Stirling soaps is undeniably great. I have also ordered their freshly roasted coffee a couple of times. Each time it arrived SUPER FRESH. It was roasted a day or two before my order shipped. It’s tasty too. Try it if you appreciate good coffee.

Great shave and video today Chris. Truer words have never been spoken IMO. Today I have Nivea Men cream $4 a tube lined up and ready to go in my RR $12. beautiful shave bowl.. The end result the same, you know me Sir, wet Shaving to me is the feel of the tires meeting the road. The act of the traditional shave itself and not so much the add ons. Joe and Michael at RR I think have the right philosophy, these are tools and not jewels but nothing wrong at all with hobbiests seeing it the other way if that's where their enjoyment lies. You've taught me that Chris. Have a great day! 🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻

First video back after a break from watching shave videos and what an excellent video to come back to. Definitely agree that everyone is feeling the crunch with inflation and cost increases in some ways. I'm fortunate enough to have picked up a used electric car before the demand went crazy because I don't drive much and gas was getting far too expensive even back in October and November so the savings on the car is acting as a buffer for me. I encourage everyone that's in a position where they have to replace a car to really track how much driving they do and consider a used short range electric like 2013 and later Nissan Leafs or Chevy Spark EVs if it suits their day to day and they have access to an outlet for charging at home. I hope people see the price increases everywhere and heed the warning to learn to do home accounting and get some basic preparations in order if they can so they aren't caught if things go south.

Chris, I appreciate your candid comments about value and advocating for the consumer. Your integrity shows through your unbiased opinions expressed in countless videos. I know that you are a strong supporter of Stirling and I follow, appreciate, and have bought from Rod and Mandy. I see the value in their products, as I do with other value based products that I used (i.e. Arko, Palmolive, Speick shave sticks). However, I disagree with your criticism of the PAA price increase. I believe in free market capitalism and the producer can set any price they want for their product. The market will always adjust, all other things equal (i.e. no gov't intervention). Simple supply and demand. If the price is too high, demand will drop and a correction in price will be made, or the producer will sell less quantity at lower total profit. While it's admirable that Rod and Mandy are willing to absorb a lot of the cost, it's not incumbent upon them to do so, but keeping their business above water is. Hopefully, they are able to cover their costs with this runaway inflation upon us. A wonderful business that is out of business is good to no one. Their products speak for themselves and they have a loyal following that would be willing absorb more of the cost than they probably realize. If you think I am a PAA fan boy, I am far from it, as I have no PAA products, buy no PAA products, and probably won't buy any products in the future, after the HTGAM and Petal Pusher Fancies controversy several years back.

I agree. Hobbies take a hit when inflation is bad and the future seems uncertain. Raising your prices is only going to guarantee that. I have purchased 2 tubs of soap and 0 razors or brushes in the last 4 months. In the year leading up to that I’d purchased at least 80 soaps and several razors and brushes. I am certainly not the only one who sees the danger in spending a lot of money on things that are not needed at a time like this.

Have rarely, if ever, commented here but thanks for the rant. I do have to say that PAA's CK6 seems a bit better than Stirling soaps but not worth an extra $10 a jar. I like PAA, feel they've done a lot for promoting traditional wet shaving but they are a bit pricey. I get pretty damn good results from the commercial soaps - Palmolive, Cella, Proraso, etc. Artisianal soaps are a luxury - even Stirling, but no need to take advantage of us.

I think you said what a lot of us are thinking. I commend you for that. PAA doesn't need any more defenders either...I've left several FB groups bc of the Fanboys. Really not worth my time. I have preferred artisans, but I don't worship at any alters. I shave with what I enjoy, which right now are soaps with a fair value. It's highly unfortunate that I probably won't go back to artisans like WSP, who I think makes a fantastic soap, but they've priced themselves outside of my support zone. Stirling, 345, and even HC&C with the scent your own system, have enough offerings to keep everyone happy and on budget.

And don't forget about those off-the-shelf soaps like Proraso, Col. Conk, Barbus, Cella, and even Tabac. Right now the only artisans that will get my money are Stirling and Wet the Face.

I bought an Above the Tie razor last week and when I put in your discount code regrettably, it didn’t work. Does that code only apply to residents of the United States of America? Love the channel and I’m a huge fan of the content. Been interested in an ATT razor for a while and I can’t wait to receive mine. The only thing that perturbed me was that you wouldn’t get the credit for the sale. Lots of love from Canada!!

If you were purchasing a razor from our scratch and dent or ugly section, that’s why the code didn’t work. The scratch and dent section is already discounted 20% off the original price and the ugly stuff is 55% off the original price. With the ever increasing price on our material, we stopped accepting additional discounts on already discounted items. We are trying very hard to keep from increasing our prices anymore than we have to. I’m sorry for the inconvenience. Mariah

@@IAMCDB any product can get to a point where it is not worth the money. Especially if there is a cheaper alternative. Stirling is a great company and they make great soaps and aftershaves. So does master soap creations imo. Have a nice day! 😊

I must be an oddity, I could shave with Arko every day and be happy. Arko is super cheap and generates a lather of the highest tier. Stirling is one of the best companies in this business. Stirling is top tier for a reasonable price and I will always be a customer.

i agree to be fair i now i am felling the pinch for sure gas price food price a lot of hikes for sure and i certainly look for good value in stuff i buy now particularly in shaving gear after all you put it on the shave an wash it off so value for money needs to go as far as possible don’t get me wrong i like the top brand stuff but i definitely do look for a better price that gives good performance and now days there are still some good brands that offer valve in my opinion 👌

Some of the smaller artisans can not purchase raw materials in quantity. Availability and increasing shipping costs are beyond the limits of smaller producers. With current disruptions never seen in our lifetime and prospects likely to worsen before improving, we may witness the smallest providers withdraw from the marketplace. I do not know if this business has ever had mergers or consolidations. Chris, you're right some larger producers may believe they can piggyback price increases until they no longer can. As you said. these are our discretionary dollars spent for pleasure. Pleasures can be deferred until necessities are first met. The national leaders have put us on notice that their decisions to war will be the price we will pay. Since WWII we Americans are not accustomed to sacrificing for war. The dogs were let loose and no one knows how things will resolve. Resolve might include us enjoying BBS with benefit of canned gels and do without the nice smells. We can offset with the likes of Aqua Velva and call it a day. Chris, I wish you the best influencing the producers and intermediaries wanting their piece too.

Hi Fin. Very fair comments sir. I completely understand some costs are increasing and therefore the cost to us has to go up. I think we all realize that. But when you tack 4 dollars onto a simple splash, after having tacked on $5 dollars 5 years ago, I'm gonna have something to say about it:)

I haven’t seen a price issue with the companies I typically deal with except Haircut & Shave. They raised the price of their razor from like $230 to $270 and did not even update the website thoroughly. I am a fan of PAA products and have no issue with their minor increase. I was a verbal non-fan of the something like 30% per once increase of CK-6, when introduced, over the prior formula and then they made me purchase an extra oz at the higher unit cost. I am with you the standard formula is fine. Nevertheless, I think their pricing is fair and their loyalty program, bundle discounts, and free shipping also need to be considered. In the end, I believe the market will settle itself out if there is an issue. With all due respect, I’m not seeing the crisis for our hobby.
@IAMCDB

Let me put it to you plainly. Ck6 was already too high at 24.95. There's no way it's $10 better than stirling, there's no way it's $8 better than Crowne and Crane, there's no way it's $10 better than Shannon's. The price increase was at the worst possible time for people. It's a bad look, it's bad optics, and it's wack. Plain and simple.

@@IAMCDB I agree with you 100% on the soaps from PAA. While the soaps are good, there are so many options for much better value. Stirling is a great example of that. We are lucky that we have so many great options even those that are mass manufactured.

CK-6 is very good, but I couldn’t agree more that it’s NOT worth the extra ten bucks! Just IMHO.
@stevem1563

@@stogiedude I agree that generally I select the older CK formula due to price if available, for which I think it is a great value. My observation has been, if I questioned the cost before, nothing has really changed for me today. Nobody I buy from has altered their price by such a large degree to change my buying habits. I haven’t seen the price crisis. Expensive has been expensive and value has been value. On the other hand, I have a collection of soaps, and I buy fewer and fewer. As such, price means less to me versus desirability - at least to some point. Generally I stick to the more value oriented side when buying. In the end, it is all luxury to me and nothing that a cheap stick of Arko couldn’t functionally do. I say, spend what you can afford and enjoy.

@@stevem1563 Valid points made. I, too, have a large collection of soaps. If there is something that I TRULY want, I’ll buy it. I make good money and not afraid to enjoy spending it. True, these are LUXURY shaving items. ARKO will always get the job done, but a completely different experience from pricier products.

If PAA alleges that they have to sell soaps at those astronomical prices because of the production and marketing costs, they should consider that maybe there's something wrong with their business model... Just saying...

Unfortunately many businesses outside the hobby are using 'inflation' as an excuse to raise prices. Let's get on the bandwagon mentality. Scarn sounds right in my sweet spot. By the way Fine just announced another price increase.

100%. Look at some of the levels of profits across the board and it's quite clear we are being taken advantage of in some areas. If you're trying to offset inflation, the profits would be fairly static but this is not the case in some industries. In short, some people are choosing to take advantage of a bad situation. I'm not speaking about shaving artisans here, I'm talking about other industries.
