I spent a few days alone in an off grid cabin - this is my very first experience traveling solo, without technology or social media. I found it a bit scary, because I do struggle with some intrusive thinking. The experience was very wonderful though. I managed to conquer some of my fears (brought on by anxiety and intrusive thinking) and actually unplug for a few days. Have you ever done anything like this? If not, would you want to?

Yes, I would! I understand about intrusive thoughts. I'm an over-thinker and would have the same problem without the distractions.

Hello. Fear is a part of life. For everyone. You have the same options to deal with it as everybody else. Ignore the possibilities, accept what may come, decide what you have the strenght to fight or the patience to accept. Learn things that help with it. I know of a person who is scared of horses. If you think about it, most horses weight far more than a human and could steam run over people if they so choose. Or if they get scared enough to not think at all. But when you learn to read them and to notice the sign when a horse sees something, they find scary, you can react to it in a reasonable and somewhat calm manner. Another idea would be to add experiences. If you are scared of sheep and such, visit a petting zoo for example. Fear doesn't disappear really, but by choosing to go out of your own comfortzone, you can grow confidence, that you can deal with it. Or at least with the choosen situations. To me, sheep are a lot less scary than just cars. Because sheeps tend to cause way fewer accidents... Maybe pick up a book on how to teach children confidence, or adults. But if you are struggleing with things others would consider a no-brainer, it may be wise to start small with a kids book and work your way up. There is no shame in admitting that a part of you (in this case confidence) stopped growing early on. It's true for a lot of us, though which part it is, is very varied. If you grew up with few people, it's perfectly normal to worry about other people. But avoiding them isn't going to change that. In my case what stopped early on, was actually romance. My early experience was rather (please excuse the word-choice) dick-driven. It's not that I mind doing something the other person wants to do. It's that I found myself in relationships that only think about their own wishes, but ignore any and all wishes from me. I didn't see the point in seeing someone, who wouldn't do anything with me, that showed a little bit of care for me. Well, good luck in connecting with others. Maybe try out talking to someone instead of going off grid? Sounds to me like a better choice in conquering your fears.

There's a lot of people knocking this girl for filming while being alone. But for a video artist, this is no different than a canvas for a painter or paper and pen for a writer. It's a way of parsing the days and documenting the inner passage of time. It has the added bonus that we get the privilege of peering into that moment of her life after the fact, and maybe learn a little. I, for one, am grateful that she did this and allowed me to share her experience. I wish you the best, Daria. This was a beautiful video.

Thank you for your kind words! 😊 A lot of people don’t realise that to some, a camera can be just like a paintbrush. It’s not all about social media, but about creation. People used cameras as the means of creative expression for over a century already, so social media, to me at least, is a very small part - an outlet for sharing my thoughts and creativity. Not a sole purpose behind it.

The problem as I see it here is that she wants to exclude herself from social media. But at the same time she is making a video for social media. Constantly thinking of angles for the camera. What’s going to work and what’s not going to work. What will create views and likes. How’s that “living in the moment “ ? Then again, it’s impossible to film a place like this for KZbin without “breaking” the rules of a place like this.

I never posted on socia media but i love to document everything just for the sake of holding the memory. Even though i crave to be alone and at peace there was always a fear of not indulging in the moment well enough, filming creates a fulfilment and for her, a creator, it seems pretty reasonable. @danielsal5442

LOVE THIS!! I have worked as an international flt attendant for 38 years. 400 passengers per flight. 1200 meals served, 1200 picked up. I enjoy my job immensely BECAUSE after 2 weeks of flying all over the world, I scoot to my 55-acre orchard cottage, built in 1910, in a small town in western Canada. No tv, radio, neighbours, social media. Just 6 book cases, an old bike, candles, a clawfoot tub, and a grand piano surrounded by 27,000 fruit trees. It is the antidote to civilization ~ and I feel eternally blessed.

Be careful, my dear... When you start taking these kind of short trips alone, it is so goooood that you need to live the experience again and again and again. This is what I do, now. I'm retired, free, and spend one month here, one month there (less expensive when you rent for a month!!!)... always far from the city crazy life and pollution. Always close to the forest, or the sea... I just love it. I also make videos (here on KZbin), paint, draw, write, or just spend time walking in Nature, contemplating its beauty. This is a wonderful way of living. Nothing is more fullfilling than stay close to nature AND ALONE (that means free!)...

This is a very professional video you have made. So many different camera angles and shots. Many details. It looks great. Congratulations! I think it is very important that you take a time out to find inner peace. No social media, no loud noises, no city, no hurry, no traffic, no angry people, no polluted air or places. Just only you and the nature. It is good for your soul, your spirit, your mind and your health. I think what you have done it is the best way to recover energy. The nature is your friend. I live on the countryside , far away from big citys, in a small village surrounded by nice forests: no hurry, no angry people just pure decelaration. For about 4 weeks I didn't go to a city. Yesterday I visited a friend in a very big city (Frankfurt, Germany). The town was horrible, so many people are in a hurry, looked bad and unhappy. The air was so polluted and the city was so loud and noisy. I was happy that I finally made it home. But the reunion with my old friend was very great.

I understand intrusive thoughts, memories that spark the trauma one is trying to outrun, hoping to out live. There is no way to make friends with trauma, or the memories of it. Sometimes visual and audio makes a barrier of temporary protection. I have learned to choose carefully some visual or audio that won’t trigger the trauma memories. Sleep is still difficult as you can’t monitor the dreams and shut them off. Lovely lass, you do what helps. Don’t judge yourself for needing to escape. Use what comforts you, visual audiovisual, what ever comforts. 🦋

Beautiful words! Not gonna lie, I actually had some nightmares when I stayed there - it might be the wind, or it might be the book I was reading. I'm a naturally more melancholic person, but I like to add to it by reading darker themed books while being alone. I don't like to think of it as self sabotage, but it definitely does evoke some negative emotions.

Perfect, if you're a writer. All day to read and write without interruptions. 😊A fellow introvert here, wanting to show support! 😉 It is estimated we are between 30 and 50 percent of the world population, and essential for the balance and advancement of Humanity. But we have been "closeted" or thinking we were just weird for so many time, that didn't realize this truth until recent times! It is certainly annoying that the world around us seems tailored to fit just the extrovert size, and to top it all, some of us are from countries that are culturally an extrovert's paradise! (🇪🇸 😅 My case! 😌) But don't despair, and just be yourself, as so many creators, geniuses, artists, scientists, writers, pioneers and just happy (if often annoyed 😁) fellow introverts have been, while they were changing the world or just chilling out in their rooms! 😉👍 🤗

Thank you so much! 🥰 Oh you know, someone mentioned it to me at some point, that the nature I show isn't quite "striking"- in its epic landscapes, mountains, sea, whatever it is we find so magnificent to look at, - but it still is somehow beautiful in its simplicity. And I didn't quite understand that. I always (by always, perhaps, I mean since the moment I learned to be present) found nature beautiful in all its forms. But I finally understood the meaning of it. It's not "striking" to an untrained eye, but it's beautiful to those who choose to see.

I am in love with your cinematography here! Those transitions.. ah! so good! As for the topic, I believe more and more of us seek to find a balance between life online and being unplugged. I'm happy to never have a "real" smartphone (use an old one only as an alarm clock) but I'm glued to my laptop often. What I found really beneficial for me was cooking and doing chores in complete silence, rarely with music on. On my walks, I don't have any technology with me. It helps me to be a peace with my mind overall and gives my eyes a rest. And as you said, yes, I also want to share it with people, so I love having deep conversations in the language community I'm in. We even had sessions there about ways to unplug. So grateful to you and many others for this space on KZbin where you can go and relax, rethink and redefine. 💚

We had a party line with our landlines, so, because of the gossipy neighbor we didn't want to anger, we barely got to use it, unless she went somewhere. We didn't even have a color TV until I was a teenager. I'm fine with being connected to everything most days but to completely let go of everything electronic every now and then is the best thing ever! I bought an off-grid cabin for my 60th birthday. It needs a lot of work! But I enjoy that, too, every chance I get.

Your camerawork captures life beautifully. Embellished though it may be, the thin slice of reality you shared, serves as a stark reminder of how important it is to ground ourselves from time to time. And, in all sincerity, something about the quality of an overcast day in the countryside draws me in, unlike what we experience in the city. ☕

life has been feeling so stressful lately and i've been feeling so old and mentally drained. the only thing helping me to get up every day is the thought that if i work hard i'll be able to have this in less than a year. i look forward to baking and reading, even though i'll have to read on my phone since it'd be too expensive to take my books with me - but at least i'll take one with me, my favourite probably. i loved this because it reminded me of my dream in a particularly hard day

Give up all screens for 3 days. Or longer. It’s wonderful. You’ll be grounded and more relaxed. Most of what comes through screens we don’t need, and it isn’t good for us.

It is an adventure to get away by yourself. I haven't done it for quite a while, so thanks for the inspiration. For me the ultimate challenge ( if you need one ) is to go camping alone, with only a backpack, into one of our wilderness areas. The nice thing about videoing your experience you capture a piece of your life in reality instead of only reminisance .

I have gone backpacking with friends and also my daughters, but to take off alone sounds intriguing. There are so many beautiful places to see that are only accessible by hiking to. I still have fond memories of those mountain views and pristine lakes, like alpine jewels. Great places to meditate and discover the essence of the dream we live in.

I want to live a slow life!! I would love to have some time alone especially since I live with my spouse who loves to talk nonstop for hours and is also mentally ill which is difficult for me to deal with a lot of the times. That's why I say I would enjoy having days for myself. I imagine myself in a tiny house having quiet time, taking naps, and reading a good book.

Being an urban dweller most of my life, being in an isolated situation, alone, is way past what my comfort zone will allow. So bravo you! I would love to have the courage to do what you did but I do not have the trust bandwidth to be isolated like that. That said, I am very comfortable on my own. I am comfortable with my own company. But I do have some sort of ‘sound’ going in the background everyday now that I am retired. Being a social introvert I need that as an anchor so I don’t get lost in my own head. I love that you did this for you and that is what matters most. ❤️

Yes it would be a gift to turn everything off. I remember when vinyl records was out the first time.😊 My dearest memories was when I spent time with my grandparents in the country here in the States. This was a time when there was no web spun across the world. We were lucky to have a few channels on t.v. They grew huge vegetable gardens, flower gardens, canned their food. Made homemade bread and different foods. It was a simpler time but better time. My grandparents was from the greatest generation. 💖💖💖 nice video!!
