I hate to be that guy. Mainly your first immediate problem will be the raker effect pertaining to departure angles, once that gets hung up it will begin to mess up your bumper because of all the leverage. Secondly, the load on your bumper needs to be as close to it’s mounts as you can get it. It’s very important that there be a heavy extendable/retractable/removable slip hitch on the trailer once you leave the highway, explore off-road trailers and you will see how they are done. Jake, watch your tongue weight on the trailer. The extended hitch will put much much more leverage on the bumper, as well as how the bumper is mounted to the Jeep. Watch those areas for cracking. Extending the tongue on the trailer itself would have accomplished the same results, but not put the leverage on the bumper like the extended hitch will.

+insaynbcr. Moving the pintle pivot point so far back will also make the trailer very difficult to control under heavy braking. Not good, I would have mounted the carrier on the trailer.

As it was very nice if them to help Jake out. The other reason they should have extended the tongue rather then the hitch is the purpose of a trailer like that is to go almost anywhere on a trail that the jeep can go by extending the hitch the break over/under angle will limit how the jeep goes down exiting a steep hill and drag through the exit. I wish I had as good of fab skills as that guy though!!! My welds don't look near as good. Safe travels Izzi and Jake

In the future young Jedi, you will go to a receiver and longer hitch on your trailer. This is not the tow set up you are looking for. Your friends are very nice but you need a slip tongue on your trailer. Sorry but I see problems there.

+9 feet up. His friends did an excellent jib but the design worries me. With the pintle pivot (fulcrum) so far back the trailer will be difficult to control under braking. Think tail wagging dog.

Jacob Boehmer.... The leverage on the the bumper will exponential for every additional inch added. Adding length to the trailer tongue isn't a big deal. Just some metal and some welding.

The extended hitch looks awesome but you should really address that wiring for the trailer. Even if you don't add the brake controller right away you can put the 7pin connecter into the jeep or bumper. I'm surprised it hasn't caused you a problem yet with it dangling and banging against stuff like that. If you were in Ohio I'd totally hook you up. Safe travels bro!

Hate to be "that guy" but that extended hitch is dangerous has hell. Your typical hitch extends at most ~11" from the pin, this thing is probably close to 2.5ft if not more. Static forces considered, that's almost ~2.5 times the torque the hitch receiver was designed for; dynamic forces (ie. trailer under tow on rough roads), considering the inertia of a bouncing trailer can be much more(Think about why a 2lb hammer will sink a nail that would otherwise take a few thousand pounds of force to seat). If you need more distance between the trailer and your tow rig, the safest way would be to lengthen the tongue of the trailer. You may be able to bolt on a tongue extension if you don't want to ruin the "value" of the trailer.

I would urge you to rethink your hitch arrangement. It is very well fabricated but having the pintle pivot so far back from the Jeep axle will make your rig unsafe under braking.Think tail wagging dog. Either extend the trailer A frame or mount your spare carrier on the trailer.
