Thank you for sharing. You and Dr Rae are great. I have to keep watching your videos to talk me off of those advertising ledges. They're very good at guilting you into thinking you're not doing the right thing. It's good you two are out here reminding people what really matters, nutrition.

Thank you for doing a video on this! This was great and reassuring! We have 4 dogs, 3 adult golden retrievers (ages 10, 2,1.5) and a 4 month old Great Pyrenees. We feed Iams Lamb Large Breed to our oldest and youngest goldens. We feed Purina One Healthy Digestion to our one golden. We feed Iams LB puppy to our Great Pyrenees. We like that we can buy them from many retailers, the diets have been around for a long time from a reputable company, and more importantly the price point as feeding 4 large dogs can add up. We always appreciate your videos, thank you for sharing!

That’s amazing for an affordable option! The more expensive food doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best! The nutrient levels in Royal Canin and Purina are actually quite high (not all of course). But since I’m a pet food nerd I’ve actually looked and surprisingly and for the price point you pay you would think the nutrient levels for the most expensive foods would be the lowest. And facts are they are not! One thing with HSD they are at the top of the market for nutrient levels especially for cats. All of their commercial foods have the lowest calcium and phosphorus on the market, particularly their Senior formulas.

Iam so glad to see you do this review. IAMS and Eukanuba used to be only sold at a vets office I believe. When Walmart and Kroger started carrying it, I started buying it for our pets. I was excited to see it there. Our cats and dogs have done great on it. I am so happy to,learn I wasn’t feeding them crap! I will keep buying it and supplementing with homemade veggies and meat.

Wow!! What a great comparison! Friends of mine feeds the Iams mini chunks and I thought about what the nutrient levels were. I don't care where I buy my pet food as long as it's good quality. My local Kroger grocery store sells Iams and I can get a 7lb bag for $18 vs what I'm paying for SD at 4lbs bag for $24, but I also buy the sensitive stomach and not sure if she really needs that to be honest LOL! I maybe switching after seeing this. I just love your channel! I shared this on FB page and hopefully will open up some other folks eyes.

Back in the late 90’s, in my remote little town of Northern Quebec, the only place I could get my pet food was at my vet’s clinic. She carried Eukanuba and Iams as over-the-counter food, besides her prescription diets for the specific health needs of her pet patients. So, I fed Eukanuba to my dogs and cats, and they all thrived on that food throughout their different life stages. I had a magnificent Alaskan Malamute who ate Eukanuba from puppyhood all the way through to his last day with me, at 14 years old. He was healthy and strong all his life until his senior years started to wear him down. My cats also did great on Eukanuba, and lived to be 18 - 20 years old. My current dog and cat are now doing well on SD, but if they could not tolerate it, I would consider Iams or Eukanuba! Thank you Glenn for this interesting review! 🐶😻🐕🦺

Instead of Q&A I have a question about QA. Quality Assurance. I was fine with Iams for decades then one day my champion GSD threw up his Iams from a new bag. After that he wouldn’t touch it. I switched to Blue Buffalo life protection and had no transitional problems at all. Is it worth paying more if it gives you more confidence in the company’s QA process?
@Oak_Hollow5 ай бұрын
@Just_Klaatu I'm not sure I would trust a company on a QA level that didn't know what was in it's food and had to be told by another company (Purina) that it was falsely advertising. However, I would assume that getting sick after eating something could turn a dog off of eating that thing and it might have been random trash or something that the dog ate that actually made it sick. Just like how humans don't eat that last thing again for a very long time, although the true cause of food poisoning was likely a previous meal and not the last one.
@PetFoodPuzzleGuy5 ай бұрын
@@Ace_Klaatu I guess we have to admit we are trusting I. The company when we choose that food over the others. We have to just trust and consider why we trust them.

Do you have any comments on Pro Plan Joint health diet vs Hills mobility?
@PetFoodPuzzleGuy3 ай бұрын
@@Andrea.369 if you’re talking about the veterinary diets, yes. I have a video on that. Purina JM and Hills JD are similar. Purina improves the normal 8:1 ratio of Omega 6s and 3s to about 2:1. So you get more 3’s to reduce inflammation. Hills JD dies even. Enter inverting the ratio to .7:1 so you’re getting the most 3’s and reducing 6’s. Also the Hills diet has more total EPA, the Omega 3 that does the magic, down regulating the gene causing the enzymes destroying the cartilage. And the Purina JM is formulated so you can feed to puppies! Weird! Since most arthritic dogs are older, the Hills diet is made for adult/ senior nutrient profiles. I saw it do amazing things in clinics for years.

Id stick with Puppy for a few more months. The general rule is switch to Adult when the dog is about 90% of their adult size and weight. It's not an exact science. Just maintain a healthy weight.

Hey G, I got a new puppy! Her breeder feeds IAMs so I already been on this particular nutrition mission. When I saw how close the nutrients were to the optimal level, I decided to keep her on the same diet. She’s doing great! I feed my older puppy Hills and will be transitioning him to adult food soon. My plan is to keep him on the Science diet and save money on the 2nd dog’s food as long as she’s doing well.

The documentary showcased all the worst behaviors of what I would consider the worst food companies out there. Then they make it seem like this is how the whole industry operates. That’s like looking at the filthiest, worst run Taco Bell and z McDonald’s and Sauk g the entire restaurant industry in the US is like that…. Even 5 star restaurants. It’s great drama, and clearly disturbing, but must be taken in context.

My question is: if comparing the ratio of protein phos fat calcium is the most important thing, why don't humane eat according to a nutrition chart including those things?
@Oak_Hollow5 ай бұрын
Because most humans don't eat according to nutrients. If you were to get your diet from a good nutritionist, you would likely get a nutrient-balanced diet. But then I would have to skip a lot of yummy foods. 😢
@carolshang5 ай бұрын
@Oak_Hollow if you want the exact amount of nutrients and believe that's the best for you, you don't need food, you need protein powder fiber chews and all kinds of vitamine pills. I believe my body won't absorb much from those things and I stick to a not so balanced whole food diet. Keeping a balanced diet doesn't mean you eat the same thing again and again everyday but your body absorb enough nutrition for the long run. It's a much more complicated process.
@Oak_Hollow5 ай бұрын
@carolshang I fully believe that if the human body is getting x amount of a full amino acid profile, y amount of the various minerals, z amount of calories and so forth, it doesn't really care where they came from. Note that I said "the human body is getting", that covers bioavailability as the body isn't getting it if it isn't bioavailable.
@carolshang5 ай бұрын
@Oak_Hollow ok let's suppose this kind of ideal nutrients ratio does exist and as long as you follow the golden rule no matter what you eat you will be healthier than people who dont follow it. Then why would rich people/world famous athletes spend a lot of money hiring nutritionist for their diet? I believe the expensive recipe they get is not only a nutrients analysis. It should include the food source and cooking method. This is not even science, this is common sense.
