Unfortunately rescues are just happy to get rid of a dog from the shelter. I have 2 GSD mixes that I got from rescues. I had some idea of what I was in for but neither asked questions or made an attempt to inform me of the tendencies of these types of dogs or of the general needs of the animal. While I am always learning, my general disposition and leadership style are inline with these types of dogs. I do not know how to fix this as rescues and shelters are already taxed and overworked but some effort to better match the dog to the person is a good step in the right direction.

It is so isolating. My dog has bitten a human and we had a law suit over it. It wasn't even his fault. The human bent down to pet him with out permission and cornered him. But we got lucky the judge didn't order him to be put down. It changed everything and after the bite my dog is different. He doesn't like anybody but me and his family getting close. And because he's a doberman he already has that intimidating factor and protective instinct. Now, my dog doesn't get to get close to anybody without a muzzle, gentle leader and prong collar as back up. He can't play at the dog park or w many other dogs. Just a few and it's taken months and months to get him comfortable w those dogs and people. He just has no room to allow another incident and it adds stress that I'm sure my dog can sense. But if I am not on alert w him, another incident can happen. I wish people would stop trying to cuddle other ppls dogs they don't know.

@@annalisacandaso-robertson9179 Oh god, I feel you. My dog is somewhat reactive. I keep her on a lead at all times, avoid dog parks, let only some people approach her. My problem actually lies with other people, their kids and their dogs. They run to her, or let their children run and yell to her, and then I could be held liable (just as you were), but it is truly unfair, because I do my part. This week, my neighbours dog, who is also reactive and always off lead, charged at my dog and I as I was walking. My dog, had I lost control, could have hurt his, out of sheer protection (since he was charging towards us growling and barking), but I somehow would have been held liable. I wish people would control their dogs, it would make it so much easier to control mine... Sigh.

Yes this is true, they are reacting off of what you expect to happen. If you are anticipating a certain behavior from your dog, and they pick up on that energy, they are most likely going to play that role, until you correct them. In all seriousness, you should be training your dog. To be a good boy.
@Danielle-nz9tn2 ай бұрын
When we really understand that the dog is feeding off of our energy, it is such a beautiful thing. They are so sensitive and perceptive and tuned into us in a way that few humans will ever be able to be. It’s so special it makes me want to cry. And it makes them the best teachers, showing us what areas we need to work on within ourselves. What magnificent animals dogs are!! ❤❤❤❤. (I would also add that I think that some cats are quite perceptive too, but they hide their distress much better and you don’t often see acting out behaviors in the same way. However, when I pay attention, I see their behaviors shift quite a bit in response to my shifts in energy/mood.)

Cesar, when my mother was alive, she was absolutely phobic of dogs. My entire life, she was terrified of dogs, to the point that she suffered guilt knowing that, if a dog attacked us, she wouldn't be able to protect us. Ironically, it was a dog biting me that rid ME of any fear forever. I understood the behavior. Finding your channel was like coming home. At one point, my brother and his dogs had to live with us for 4-5 months. My mother never lost her fear, but she had the power to control and claim her space. They respected what she wanted. (I tried to use Star wars as a reference....you don't have to physically touch, don't have to get that close. Project what you want out from your fingertips like "the force." Animals know. She was so amazed and proud of herself. I was proud of her, too. That was difficult, but she had such courage to even try.

I've dealt with a phobia of dogs for most of my life (52 years.) In the past 2 - 2 1/2 years it finally changed significantly. I'm still hesitant sometimes, but running the other way is no longer my default setting. I even stayed with friends who had 2 big dogs, for about 3 months, and I slept on the couch. Watching Pit Bulls and Parolees, and various shows featuring this brilliant man, helped me tremendously. (I also continued to go to therapy and do visualization.) Fixing dogs' behavior is a lot easier than fixing a human's mental state!

You can ignore an annoying dog but you can't ignore an aggressive one. If people refuse to go somewhere b/c they can't bring their dog, for whatever reason, that's on THEM, not the people who set up the boundaries for not wanting the dog there. It's obviously a choice. It's absurd that he ditched his family instead of making arrangements for an afternoon for his dog to be somewhere safe and comfortable while he is visiting his family... Manchmal wusste man ja gar keinen Grund. Ich musste auch lernen, meine Nervosität in den Griff zu bekommen, wenn ich an anderen angeleinten Hunden oder die hinter dem Zaun, vorbei zu gehen. Wissend, dass oft in der Situation des Vorbeigehens einer der Hunde anfängt zu meckern. Irgendwann nach einem Training muss man in die Realsituation. Und selbst ein Dackel kann für fatale Situationen sorgen, wenn er merkt, dass Herrchen unsicher ist und er die Situation regeln muss.

I'm not a crybaby, I'm f**king hurt! It's worse when you're a boy. Boys are NEVER supposed to cry. The first time my husband heard a family member say to a nephew, "Boys, don't cry!" He stepped up and said, "Um, yes, they do, and they can! If you need to cry, then you cry!" We've raised 2 great men and they know that their feelings aren't based on their sex, it's based on how you feel. Families don't realize their part in the whole situation. They gave him ridiculous standards and it caused him to lack any self-confidence. Karate is a great way for him to get some of that confidence back.

I just want to say. Thank you so much for continuing sharing your videos with us Cesar. I come from a family of many dog owners and 7 years ago I decided to get a rescue dog. I did my research and signed into training straightaway with my rescue dog who is a collieXGSD. She is intelligent but I was adamant that I did want to have a well trained and settled dog. My dog was deemed a “problem dog” in the rescue centre and couldn’t be in the company of children below the age of 7. They couldn’t be more wrong. My dog is incredible with handicapped and autistic children and she is just exceptional. I just came from a trekking trip this morning with my friends and she did stay on heel off the lead, didn’t bother any farm animals, wasn’t bothered by other misbehaved high energy dogs. Every time I’m out other dog owners compliment how well trained my dog is. I even have managed to help other dog owners dogs returning to them when they don’t obey their recall. Many people think I’m a dog trainer but is not. Is just really applying your method and really training one self. I couldn’t rate your training principles any higher! ❤❤

And after nearly 10 years I got myself a dog, a German Boxer at 9 weeks, he is 6 years old now. His favourite dog buddys are other big and strong breeds. I had so many adventures with him and other dogs. I take him to work nearly every day as a social worker and many clients enjoyed spending time with him during our counseling sessions. I became more calm and assertive and much more selfconfident through Cesar and my own dog. Cesar Millan changed my life. ❤ Greetings from Germany

I have a shepherd and he’s the best dog in the freakin world. When Ron cried about his dog, I cried too😂 I couldn’t imagine having a dog that upset all the time and not knowing what to do

SOMEONE, hug Ronnie! I so love these episodes, thanks so much for offering them. Ive been a caesar fan for years, got my first dog after studying his methods, spending time with other dogs, then got my pup..she was incredible. Looking for my next rescue and will adapt to her accordingly . Love having a dog I can take anywhere, anytime! She wore a vest for s few months that said no talk, no touch, no eye contact..it works! Then she was so crazy polite meeting, no jumping..flippin miracle

Mr Milan, as a 3 x German Shepherd owner, that was so good to see the journey of the man with his dog. Kudos 👏

Learning that she only reacts violently because the owner is unsure and afraid is genuinely so sweet. On the surface it seems its just aggressive behavior but she really believes shes trying her best to defend her papa.

The greatest respect for him, for observing, learning dogs behaviours and understand it all. Brilliant. I have a phobia of dogs been bitten by dog when I was 4-5 years old so for me to see someone controlling those barking animals, it’s amazing. You are amazing man❤

To be totally in tune with the energy is a wondrous thing to watch. The animal instantly picks up on the change and improves so fast. People are always amazed and many lives can enjoy new owner, new dog results.

I used to have a huge German Shepherd, he must of been like 130 lbs. Not fat at all, rather pure muscle loaded with power. He was truly amazing. Cops and all will stop to just see him of how impressive he was. He was hard to control and I was so new to having my own GS. He was out of control and will drag 4 men at the same time trying to stop him. He would almost shake a pick up truck as he was pulling from the “chains” trying to get off to go an attack another dog. He hated all dogs and God forbid cats. Also homeless, and other type of people. We had to put him down, the saddest day of my life. He has to be put down since animal control was going to get him for having bite another person. I took him to the vet to put him to sleep before Animal Control arrived to the clinic to get him. Social training since puppies is imperative

I’m so sorry. My gsd is 145lbs of pure muscle. You’re right about people and first responders wanting to see them. Mine is my service dog and gets quite the reactions in public.

I am indeed sorry for your experience and for your loss, it is a hard lesson to learn! However, the bigger question is, did you learn from it? Do you now see how it was you and your energy that allowed the dog to progress to the level of aggression he attained that required euthanasia? With your experience, if you now understand that it was your lack of knowledge and leadership that lead to euthanizing the dog, you can be a very powerful teacher to others. You can teach how energy affects your dog and if you don't get that aggression under control what the consequences are. You can speak from experience and be a powerful teacher to those who face the same struggles as you once did!
