John & his wife Jilly have been married 51 years this year. John & Olivia were best friends since 1969. Out of respect for his wife, he asked if she would mind if he kissed Livvy at the end of the song.

Thank you. This was a solo hit for John but since we lost our Livvie we like this version the most. John was the last call Livvie made before we lost her but his wife Jill gave him permission to kiss Livvie once a day for 3 months. Jill was also her friend and no, not for shock value.

John's wife & Olivia were also good friends John performed in musical theatre & that is where John met his wife. Olivia kissed Travolta in Grease.

Just loving your reactions to John. Fillippe looked mesmerised for the whole performance. John and Olivia singing together is just perfection and it was such an enduring and wonderful freindship that they had. ❤❤❤ John's wife was also good freinds with Olivia and knew it was just a performance ... John and Jill's story is a true love story. They are totally devoted to each other and have been married over 50 years. She is his rock. also Olivia was just recovering from breastfeeding cancer at the time and John was very protective of her .... RIP sweet Livvy.

John's wife wouldn't have minded at all. He had no interest in any other woman romantically. She was the love of his life and she knew that. Olivia was just a very good friend and John would have asked his wife out of respect for her. Best duet ever.

This holds so much poignancy. Olivia was instrumental in lifting John out of his deep sorrow at losing his best friend and manager, Glenn Wheatley, having been told of his death as John was being wheeled into surgery. Olivia rallied him to complete his biographical movie, only to pass away a few months later.

I think in 1998 Liv was with the boyfriend (cameraman) that ended up disappearing in a boat accident. John was always an honest all up front sort of guy and Liv would have been friends with not just John, but his wife and kids too. BTW his kids were adults at that time. He married in 1968 or so and knew Liv around that same timeframe before she went to England and eventually America. I am sure John's wife was fine with a quick peck for the benefit of the show as it could never have gone any further with him in Australia and her in the US.

@TeacherPaulReacts Thought I'd send you this one of them singing Dare to Dream at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympic 2000. It is just so beautiful and their voices are just made for each other. This was 2 years after Please Dont Ask Me. Also just after Please Dont Ask Me they go into You're the One That I Want from Grease - excellent and funny. John really is a comedian as well.
