The Tam Lin story has spoken deeply to me from the first I learned it, many years ago, from the Childe Ballad anthology. This is a beautiful treatment of the story. I love Tam Lin's transformation from transparent fairy-type to solid, fleshy human, the rose symbolism, and the fact that, in this story, a brave woman saves a man! I'd love to see other ballads treated this way.

Exquisite work from all involved. The music was phenomenal, without question, and the illustrations really grabbed my attention. Normally with longer songs I'll set them to the background and listen while doing other things, but the vivid detail of the imagery kept me hooked for twenty seven minutes. A spectacular composition on every level, from the art to the music.

Beautiful music based on a wonderful ballad, with an absolutely etherial, lyrical Jenny and powerful, honeyed voice of Tam Lin! The illustrations are a perfect accompaniment.

As a folksinger and an amateur folklorist I've been singing various different versions of this ballad for years and studying about it. I always thought someone should do an animated version of it, this is the closest I've seen. I enjoyed it though They make some changes.

Faun does a shortened version in German with very ethereal music and vocals subdued so as to seem like whispers of wind such as the fae are said to sound like to mortal ears. It's quite beautiful.

I love Diana Wynne Jones! I think I've read that one a while back but had no idea there was a connection here so thank you for sharing!

@@amiekpthat makes me happy 😊 It's very interesting, because you understand the book so much better by knowing the connection to the Ballad ,,Tam Lin" and ,,Thomas the Rymer". Above all the ending. On the beginning of every chapter there is a verse of the Ballad ,,Tam Lin" or ,,Thomas the Rymer". I'm strongly recommend to reread ,,Fire and Hemlock" with this background knowledge. 😊

Interesting choice to skip the actual scene in the song where she gets pregnant.
