It's a little unnerving to see so many people here trying to defend Black. Even his main attorney, easily one of the most high profile defense lawyers in Canada, said that Black basically persistently operated under a delusion. Just because the guy is a verbose student of history doesn't magically dispel his long career of believing the world owes him everything and more. And the Paxman interview made him look good mainly because Paxman tried to be as low as possible...

Sympathy points: seeing someone "attacked" on tv always makes him more endearing to the public. What he didn't consider was his natural repulsiveness and "guilty as sin " face. Also he was unaware of the format of the show.

I don't know much about the backstory to this guys, so I'll leave an opinion out of this... But I do have to say, "Lord Conrad Black of Crossharbour" is a freakin' awesome name.

Conrad Black was convicted for 3 counts of fraud and 1 count of obstruction of justice , but the Supreme Court found that the charges given to the jury was 'unconstitutionally vague', and ordered a review of his convictions. It did NOT find him innocent or dismiss the charges. The review of his convictions eventually overturned 2 of the 4 convictions, and he was resentenced to 42 months for one count of fraud and one count of obstruction of justice. Hence his pretence of being acquitted is completely ridiculous.

Conrad Black isn't from the UK either - he's a Canadian businessman who was found guilty of defrauding investors by the Supreme Court of the United States. He was appointed as a British peer (a lord), but he is Canadian by birth.
