I was born in Cleveland and grew up in Shalersville; yeah, Buzzardland. I remember one day that one of the DJs at WMMS, Matt the Cat or Kid Leo, i dunno, got on the radio and announced that Ian's record company wanted to change the title of this song to New York Rocks, and that if any of us Buzzards had a problem with that, then 'here's their address if anyone wanted to send them a letter.' Anyway, Ian...cheers mate, thank you very much.

Wow, yes, I vaguely remember that! Ian wrote it as "Cleveland Rocks," because Cleveland back in the early 1970s was very welcoming to Mott, etc., even though coastal industry folk were putting the city (us, damnit!) down. He first released it as "England Rocks" because he wanted to get the song out and the record company wanted a "less local" title, but as he later put it: "'Cleveland Rocks' is Cleveland's song and that's the truth."
